In Poune's defense, not knowing your cardinal directions by name is not something that is inherently known. Like how long does it take the average human to get the hang of what are the names of the four directions, let alone their relationship to one another. And now consider the fact that Poune had been avoiding humans in the past, for good reason all things considered.
