Life's A Chibi: Different Shapes
Knowledge is power, but it all depends on HOW you use that power on others.
Everyone has different levels of knowledge based on their own personal experience. Some can see something in one way and others can see it in another way. Some grew up believe to something with others grew up believing in something different. Some pronounce words differently than others. Some believe in one while others believe in many.
Some have the gift for learning while others struggle. Those who know more than others or sees something differently than the rest don't have the right to make others feel stupid because they are "wrong". For simple things, like if someone believes that a cloud looks like a duck while you see the cloud as a Star Destroyer, don't suppress them and make them feel stupid because they can't see what you are looking at. If someone believes in something you don't agree with, you shouldn't put them down for believing in something that you think is "false". Agree to disagree. Let them see/believe what they want to and if you don't agree to it, just let them be.
The only time you should step in without hesitation is if someone believes in/doing something that is putting other people's lives in danger, your own life and theirs as well, or if you know what they are doing/believe is illegal.
Everyone has knowledge of certain things that are different from someone else, reaching from the mundane and simple to the extravagant and detailed. If you wish to express your viewpoint or what you believe/know is right, do it without making the other feel threatened - no yelling, calmly express your thoughts, don't gang up with others, don't drag them down, and don't make them feel like an idiot. Make it a calm debate rather than a heated argument. If you make them feel insecure and emotionally unstable, you failed to fully educate them and you spent all that time making someone feel bad because "you know better and more than them." In the end, they will either ignore you or hate you.
Know when to speak your insight and not shove it in their face when its not your place. If you wish to educate, ask that person first.

Yes I have been one of these people. Its very easy to allow built up degrees of rage anger and the depth of despair push you vision into a tunnel where all you can see is criticism measures of shame and all you feel you can do is Attack attack attack. Sometimes you try to pull away from it but the flashes of heat and psychological turmoil keeps pushing even if you don't want to yell at a particular person you can't seem to stop it pushes into you like a sickness.

*sigh* I have seen way too much of the behavior you describe and have repeatedly been accused of wrong-think. As a result i appreciate this more than you may think. I just wish more people would think for themselves and reflect upon what you have written here - instead of blindly adopting an ideology that propagates division and conflict instead of exchange of ideas...
This is why I Follow you, Mr. Cockburn. I love these bits of wisdom and correct ways of Behavior that often pass us by. I want you to know that. in fact, I would be curious as to what you have for my current state. Because of Diabetes and poor circulation, I have lost my left leg, and am now an Amputee. I am just now getting a Prosthetic leg and am getting up and around with it. (grins, I keep humming the "Rocky" theme song when I make an advancement in distance )
Gets even more under your skin when you realize, as you have illustrated with the speech bubbles, everyone present has different views, it's just that the other three have ones that are similar enough in terms of the shapes having points to them, so by their own logic they should be attacking each other. The square and the diamond should be ganging up on the triangle because they have only three points while the other two have four, but they are obviously part of the group unlike the circle so they don't get attacked.

Hot take: Not all beliefs and ideas are of equal quality.
Some are so bad, in fact, that they don't deserve to be respected or legitimized through giving in to their demand that we engage with the pretense that there's something of merit in them to discuss.
Nazi and fascist beliefs don't deserve consideration. Anti-vaccination hoaxes, nonsense, and conspiracy theories don't deserve to be debated. Climate change denialism and the manufactured false controversy behind it doesn't deserve to be treated as legitimate and worthy of discussion.
These are all just a few examples of ideas and beliefs that inherently drive their adherents toward work that makes the world a worse place, and as such they hurt everyone. People that promote them deserve the consequences that come with pushing things that damage and worsen the world everyone has to live in. These things should not be given the tacit approval of silence, because that's how they spread. They should be argued against. They should be shredded by presenting solid, bona fide evidence refuting them. They should be smashed relentlessly with good science in contrapoint to their bad pseudoscience. And sometimes, the worst unrepentant repeat offenders should be humiliated and dragged by exposing their intellectual or moral bankruptcy for exactly what it is.
That may sound cruel. But it's crueler to let people like fascists or anti-vaxxers prevail in public discussion, because nothing is more cruel than dragging children off to death camps for being the wrong color, or letting them die of easily preventable measles because "b-b-but teh AUTISMS!!!!"

this right here.
The idea of belittling somebody for a difference of opinion being bad might make sense in the vein of something like "which video game console is best" But once we enter the realm of "do X type of people deserve human rights?" we hit a point where civility and acceptance of said idea becomes very questionable. Even if you fill in X with some controversial group of people, they still kind of deserve human rights. If, say, you fill it with somebody attracted to minors, while saying they need therapy might be acceptable, I'd disagree with the idea of police being allowed to shoot them on the spot. If you put "trans people" in the X spot, then the answer is an unequivocal yes, as them transitioning hurts nobody, they are no more likely to harm people than any other person, and pretty much all fearmongering propaganda demonizing them is built on lies and bigotry.
Tolerance of intolerance is not acceptable, and only allows intolerance to thrive. Putting out the blanket idea of "don't shout down people for having different opinions" really comes off as a defense of bigotry and harmful ideologies.

There is a major flaw in your argumentation though. Once the censoring and deplatforming starts, it is a slippery slope which at some point will inevitably hit something you like - just look at what is currently going on with anime in the US.
Power corrupts - and that is also true for the power to censor people.
Instead of shutting down and preventing any discussion of extreme opinions, there is another approach: Let them say their piece and in doing so dig their own grave. So long as we can maintain critical thinking in our society we can be pretty certain that people will identify stupid or extremist nonsese for what it is and move on.
Just because I am hearing out what someone has to say, does not mean I am subscribing to whatever they have to say. Hearing out various differing opinions can at best broaden one's perspective on a given topic - or be amusing in its sillyness at worst.

whether or not marginalized people deserve rights or even should be allowed to live are not just "opinions" and should not even be entertained. disallowing them a platform is not censorship, as we are not putting this power in the hands of government. Nobody with such thoughts should be allowed a platform, as doing so allows them to spread their ideas. You assume anything wrong would automatically be shut down, but you have to understand such people often use underhanded, and disingenuous "debate" methods, where even if you refute every one of their claims, to some people, they come out looking like they've won. Just look at somebody like Ben Shapiro, where just about every idea he puts out their is some of the most idiotic and ill informed drivel you might ever hear, and yet, because he was allowed a platform to speak, he actually amassed a huge following. Then again, look at Trump. One of the dumbest sounding people alive, and he became president. Allowing these people platforms gives them power. Thus, even if you don't agree with their ideals, when you allow them a platform, you do support them, because they never cared to have a real discussion with you. They just wanted access to your base, and will posture and do whatever it takes to turn as many of them to their side. There are mountains of evidence showing that when you expect them to "dig their own grave", it doesn't work.
Also, I don't know wtf you're talking about with anime. Just gonna have to assume you're mad about some cleavage being covered up or something.

Yes. Albeit ignorance is the lesser issue here. The much more annoying part is the hubris of deeming one's own perspective the only valid one and going around trying to force others to subscribe to this particular perspective through means ranging from social pressure to downright violence.
I've found that folks most likely to be intolerant of those who sees things differently than them is due to their own colossal ignorance and their hubris in thinking they actually know things. So yeah, we're in agreement here. They tear down fences without bothering to learn why the fence was put up in the first place.

I've fallen victim to this. Someone at college thought the 3DS XL was going to have a higher resolution than the original 3DS. I told them that it just has a bigger screen size, and no increase in resolution. They were also discussing different games to stress test their new gaming laptop. I suggested Crysis, because it was very hardware demanding for that generation of PCs. They called me a moron and said Skyrim has better graphics and they're going with that. They bullied my out of college for these and admittedly other reasons like one failed joke I don't remember and trying to draw something in my free time. I should've just kept my mouth shut... TwT
Sometimes, listen to your "enemy" and knowing him is far more useful than fighting directly. (yes, that is from the art of war. Not a unusual reading in the asian countries)
And one more thing
Who do you want to impress.
Those above you? They will never take you seriously as a underling.
Those below you? All they give is envy.
Your equals? They already know and accept you.
So, who do you want to impress?

I suppose in large parts the answer boils down to an inflated sense of self-importance.
As for your initial quote: Not only does listening to others add to your knowledge, but in case of extreme perspectives letting those people talk means they are digging their own grave and all but undo themselves without you needing to take action in the first place.

There are all of those who disagree with each other. Unfortunately a large subset of them are disagreeable about it. A smaller but still too large subset have decided that certain opinions are so disagreeable that they feel they must attack and exterminate people who hold them. Sadly for them, they sow the wind and will reap the whirlwind.
True, let people believe what they want to believe or respect their beliefs if they differer, whether it be stuff like viewpoints, religious or non-religious beliefs, or even on how a story is presented... as long as they're not stuff like what wdeleon pointed out (say no to Nazism definitely, for example), and as long as they're not forcing it onto others or hurting others with them.
If only many people were like this...

The internet makes it very easy to "educate" people and then vanish without hearing their response. In doing so we never learn an alternate point of view on the topic. I've been on both ends; being the pedagogue and the belittled.
No subject is "black or white". Everyone brings their life to the table when discussing any issue.

I think so many are missing the point here. By forcing your own opinions, viewpoints onto others and even shutting out, shunning, and ignoring the opinions and viewpoints of others, you pretty much are neglecting yourself perspective. The more you listen, the different ideas you absorb, the bigger the picture becomes; otherwise your mind will be extremely narrow. Remember this: if you're arguing with someone you strongly disagree with; assume they may know something that you don't. Or: don't engage with them or else they'll drag you to their level or even lower and they'll beat you while you're there. It all comes down to how you react; some battles and arguments are best won by not fighting at all.
To me the main power in knowledge is gaining it. When you find yourself feeling or behaving as if you know everything, you're not so much showing your 'power' as the lack thereof, and preventing yourself from getting stronger. One should always be open to gaining another perspective and hearing someone else's opinion and comparing it to your own, even if you solidly disagree with that opinion, since at the least, it helps you to gain another perspective and possibly strengthen or change your point of view.
I feel like this ESPECIALLY applies to those people, since if they understood things more clearly, and were to take the time to consider what they're doing, and what those around them thought about it in more depth, they might change themselves. It's their refusal to accept any other view, and the belief that they already know all they need to that makes such people the way they are.
A message that needs to be said more and more these days, whether you agree or disagree with what is said around you or not. Learning comes from someone willingly opening their mind to new details, ideas, and the like, but shoving it down their throat isn't going to get them to agree with you most of the time. Even insights and ideas you disagree with, even vehemently, may have information and perspectives you might not have considered, or at the very least, understand where the idea is coming from and even why it came to that conclusion.
The core of learning is understanding, and that starts by understanding those you discuss with first.

I've been forced to accept that far too many within the 'Furry Fandom', prefer berating and attacking/censoring anyone that doesn't blindly follow or adhere to their political ideology/ies, instead of discussing differing views and perspectives, giving real worth to each one and then hopefully building bridges to settle the differences.
That isn't what I've personally experienced both here, and at another shall-not-be-Named site, that I have/had been an active participant in for nearly 20 years now.
Nope! Far easier to just permanently ban/censor someone.
Note-to-others:
Journal Notes don't seem to be on the radar, but don't believe for one second they can't be.
Be wary of proclaiming your theological/political ideologies, because you may find yourself chained to the 'Stake of Social Prejudice/Cancel Culture'.
As-for the Chibi?
Hold fast to yer ground an' don't cave!
