I follow an account on Twitter that posts foxes every hour, and I often like to bookmark the ones with interesting poses so I can use them for reference. The other day I was going through my bookmarked photos and found a beautiful one of a fox walking along a log in the forest. It was the first time I felt like I needed to draw the whole scene, rather than just the pose.
I couldn't really do the original photo justice, but I'm still glad I tried. It gave me a chance to practice with a more painterly style, making use of different layers for shading and highlights. I have a few more from that account I'd like to try redrawing in a style like this, though I want to get better with each one I do.
You can see the original photo here, taken by Klaus Echle.
