It just wouldn't be proper for a lion of his status to stoop so low as getting his paws wet. This king keeps a loyal canine around for just such occasions, taking a seat on the dog's back which promptly bends to accommodate the royal rear so he can be ferried to the other side, not missing an uppertunity to wave to his subjects from atop his trembling mount.
All worth it in the end when His Majesty rewards the Shepherd's loyal efforts with access to the royal tail hole for the evening.
