In French, "spleen" refers to a feeling of melancholy and general disinterest with everything. The term was coined by Baudelaire in a collection of poems. It's more or less related with "mal de vivre", literally "life ache" or "unease with life".
It's "nouveau", because the idea seems to have been lost to time; I associate it with the 1800's and 50's-60's, more or less, but the modern world seems not to refer to it as much. I guess it's been replaced with the idea of depression.
I don't know which movement used many different colours together to paint their shadows, but I always liked how it looked, so I made an attempt at it here. I think it was impressionism...
Enjoy.
