Things are bad enough when you've been shrunk down and left in the big outdoors by one of your so-called 'friends' with a long, treacherous journey home. But shy scrawny Mike somehow lends himself to abuse by just about anybody. Now even the ducks are picking on him.
Being into the wide variety of things that I am, my moods fluctuate wildly between a variety of different species, scenarios and fetishes. Bizarrely, for the past three years, I seem to have ended up drawing birds in April. In particular, April 2010 brought with it a very intense desire to draw birds with webbed feet - a desire which lasted for about 2 weeks and generated some impressive productivity by my usual standards.
One of the products was this three page comic involving a generic cartoon duck. I don't know about anybody else, but growing up, I always found something rather appealing about the way that the likes of Disney and Warner Bros drew feet on the likes of Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, the cast of DuckTales etc. - despite their crude form, their feet always looked so big and supple. This particular idea came to me having been reminiscing for rather too long about a scene from some similarly duck-infested cartoon that involved a rather fat giant duck stomping somebody into a sandy desert floor before the typical annoying 'strong micro lifts up giant's foot' shot. (Should it ring bells with anyone, please enlighten me as to where the hell I remember this from!!) Deciding that I wanted to explore my long-held desire for this brand of cartoony duck feet, I tried a few sketches of my own designs for such feet - as well as a typical cartoon duck face in my own style - which gradually evolved into 12 panels of stomplusty action. Given the simplicity of the design, it was actually incredibly good fun; not to overplay it but it was so much fun that it generated inside me an enthusiasm and enjoyment in creating my artwork that I have been lacking ever since about May 2009 when that giant art block first kicked in. In truth, it led me to rediscover my cartoony roots from a time before I obsessed about technical proficiency or anatomical accuracy, and as such, it was pretty liberating.
As well as going back to my cartoony style, I also decided to start playing with speech bubbles again. Corny and mildly distracting as they may be, the combination of words and pictures has always worked well for me when imagining any given scenario. As such, despite the apparent cartoonish harmlessness of his actions, the speech seeks to express a violent, intentional cruelty about the duck's behaviour. Quirky in its own way, but it pushes my buttons pretty well. And of course, it's always enjoyable when Mike is involved on the rough end of things...!

Hehe poor [lucky] little Mike. <:3 At least he wasn't killed and turned into a bloody mess this time. :P But it might take him a while to recover from all of that. X3
Wow, amazing comic, as usual, RipRoarRex! ^^ I must say for the first art involving duck feet and stomping that I've seen from you, it turned out very nicely! :) Your use of bright colors and astonishing backgrounds and environment really bring out the cartoon of this comic. Keep up the awesome work! ^^

thats a nice end Rex, will be lovely seeing the duck walking away with the pup sticked to his foot but the comic end its very good :) im a great fan of solesticking, and sincrely, its lovely seeing Mike like that, and the sole really look soft, very good work RRex, an animation based in this pic will be great.
Amazing, never change RRRex ^. .^

OSHI- DUCK AND COVER!! *gets shot for bad puns*
Dayym, i never thought being picked on by ducks ever meant being crushed by 'em Well, seems his bones broke, but his body remained intact. Nevertheless, it's a good way to show just how damn pressed into that sole he's gotten. And of course, i couldn't help but giggle at the last panel xD
Expendable micros! :D
...i could've sword that was Donald Duck when i first saw the thumbnail

Ah, duck and cover - one of many titles I could've used for this... but just about managed to control myself! Lol!
And yes, Mike remains intact on this occasion - this is a cartoon, after all!
I did actually use reference images of characters like Donald Duck to try and create a typical cartoon duck face of my own - hence there is probably some implicit similarity there.
Thanks for your comments!

Interesting comment, and much appreciated! Hadn't really considered the stylistic differences that much but even though I've tried to keep it cartoony, it needed to appeal to me in a way that I could take it seriously. Hence it couldn't look too 'goofy', as you say.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Lol! You certainly do get a cookie! Good grief, I can't believe anybody knew what the hell I was talking about, let alone finding me a clip of it too!
Pat on the back to you, sir! Looking at it now it's not quite as nice as I remember seeing it in my childhood eyes - sadly most of the old stompy moments in cartoons don't seem the same to me these days! But nice to know I wasn't going mad and that what I could picture in my head was a real... er... thing...
Thanks, Pentalis!

The same kind of "disappointment" happened to me when I finally found that growth scene in The Three Caballeros that I liked so much when I was a child. It was one of the first growth scenes I saw but of course not the first macro scene (why were childhood cartoons SO FILLED WITH FURRY AND MACRO STUFF, HM?, then they ask why they get those weirdos...)
Brief moment when Donald is shrunk (I didn't remember this):

The whole growth ordeal:

I remember feeling "funny" when I saw José Carioca growing and towering over Donald. Yes, THAT kind of "funny", back when I was so young that I didn't go to school :] that's some 4 years old right there.
More recent things do not disappoint though. Godzilla (1998) is as amazing as I remembered it!, but I was a teen back then, not a child :)
Yes, I especially like goose and duck soles of the feet to be colors brownish-reddish as you see them so often in cartoons. Yes, I imagine the normal smell of other feet there as well, it helps to use used socks, lol :)
Btw, I heard ducks are kind of smellish in RL :) I recently visited a wildlife park to cuddle with a goose for hours (!) and of course I had the chance to lifte the gander up as well (what a lightweight! :) ) and smell on him, but he smelled like... nothing! That's right no particular smell at all. Just as clean as a whistle. Man how I love geese, so beautiful and wise intelligent creatures... *melts* ... Whops, a bit offtopic, sry about that. ^v^ :)
