Scrapped Freelancer Jerry:
At one point, there was going to be an eighth Freelancer named Jerry. He would've been styled after black and white cartoon characters, similar to the old design for Benjamin. As for personality, Jerry would have basically been a comic relief kind of person. Ultimately, though, he was cut because I didn't know what to do w/ him and because he felt kind of pointless.
Original Freelancer designs:
While Oliver, Cedric, Cherry, and Ash look just as they should, Benjamin, Pete, and Vicky each look NOTHING like my original vision. Benjamin would've looked somewhat like Cedric, Pete's design would've been inspired by a character from another universe of mine, and Vicky would've been a dark spirit that looked like a strict teacher.
Scrapped levels:
There are some level and boss concepts that I didn't use.
Overgrown plant level complete w/ humanoid plant boss.
Mirror illusion stage inspired by Zonda's level from Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Different sky stage that would've been more like Sky Road Zone 3 from Sonic Lost World 3DS.
Alternate ninja boss that would've looked more like a ninja than the final version.
A jet bike stage where Grey and Cedric would have to race Azrael and Asmodeus while both parties fired at each other.
Unused levels and boss fights for Azrael and Asmodeus:
After the Bloodstone Valley stage, there were supposed to be a level for Azrael that only Cedric could do and one for Asmodeus that only Grey could do. I chose to cut these because I wanted to get to the last story already and because I could make the final parts work w/o this.
Cut LV mechanic:
I considered using LOVE in this universe but ended not doing so.
Scrapped Grey and Cedric fight/Grey madness arc:
At one point, when LV was going to be in the story, I was going to have it so that Grey would get some from Azrael due to residual parts of him remaining in the patchwork body. As a result, Grey would slowly grow crazier until he chose to leave the Freelance base for the greater good. Cedric, alarmed at this, would've tried to stop Grey from doing so. Grey, in response, would've initiated a fight between the two to drive Cedric away. Near the end, Cedric would recklessly tackle Grey in a hug and give him their first mouth kiss.
Only Azrael:
Originally, there was only going to one antagonist, and it would've been a demon. He would've stolen Grey's body, just like Azrael, but he would've been alone and soulless. Asmodeus ended up being made because I heard the Mother Mother song: Body.
Scrapped mother encounter:
I was going to make Cedric's deadbeat mom an antagonist at some point. Grey and Cherry would've both gone off on her, and Cherry would constantly fight the awful woman in the background. This was cut because I wasn't sure how to work the boss in.
Asmodeus alternate ending:
At one point, I was considering either killing off Asmodeus or having him stay in the void. I decided against this because one, Asmodeus already suffered enough and, two, I ended up liking him too much. Plus, it would've been a slap in the face considering everything he and Azrael went through.
Ashley, Overdrive, grey hearts, and purple orbs:
Ashley was not originally going to be a character in this universe. She was added on a whim, and I took her from there. (Also, for those who are curious, she and Ash are still in touch). The collectibles and boss Overdrives were added on a whim as well.
Alternate Nephalem Azrael design:
Originally, Nephalem Azrael would've looked like normal Azrael, except his fingers and toes would've become clawed, and he would've gotten bat-like wings.
Unused aerial attack for Azrael and Asmodeus:
While burst dashing, Asmodeus would orbit around Azrael as a scythe. I cut this because Asmodeus is needed to dash in the air.
Scrapped Pete ghost:
At one point, I thought of having Pete appear as a spirit for Benjamin but, I scrapped it because one, I don't think anyone else wants to see that scumbag again and two, there wasn't much I wanted to do w/ him.
Ash and Benjamin swapped personalities:
Ash's personality is closer to what I envisioned for Benjamin and vice versa.
Cut Azrael quotes:
At one point, I wanted Azrael to say different quotes from the avatar from the Bakugan video game for DS. I chose to cut this out of laziness, but I did give Asmodeus my favorite quote from that game.
Scrapped Vicky stage:
One of my original stage ideas was to have a stage where the boss separates carcasses of people from their spirits and keeps the bodies. Vicky's body would've been one of those.
Constantly talking Freelancers:
The wristwatches for Grey and Cedric originally were going to allow them to constantly hear the other Freelancers in each stage, but I lost interest in the idea and promptly dropped it.
Songs:
There were a couple of songs besides Be Prepared that I fitted to my story that I have archived, but I ultimately scrapped them.
Pete's Overdrive:
Pete is the only boss that didn't get an Overdrive moment as Ben killed him before he could do so. If he'd been successful in activating it, Pete would've run around the room as a blazing, dark blue fireball, laughing and kicking all the way.
Villainous Freelancers:
At first, the Freelancers were supposed to be anti-villainesque bad guys. I chose, later on, to instead make them freelance helpers.
Grey's Locket:
Instead of a phone, I was going to have it so that Cedric gave Grey a locket that changed color depending on his SOUL trait. I cut this because I wanted to do something similar for the sequel.
