I know, right! And to make matters worse, after seeing the complaints so many times, I was almost tempted to comment "Haha! Nobody will be complaining about holly vs mistletoe on this one" on a picture that got it right. I then realised that my comment would serve the same purpose and decided to just post "merry christmas" instead :D
Especially since they generally have the same meaning... Holly represents fertility and eternal life. I imagine we're cashing in on the fertility bit. Guess what Misteltoe represents? Romance, FERTILITY, and Vitality. You could argue that Holly is less romantic and more religiously significant... spiked leaves representing crown of thorns and all that. You could argue loosely that vitality ties into the concept of eternal life. So in that instance the biggest difference really is one's more religious and one is more romantic.
Romance is nice, but, hot take, fertility applies MUCH more often to much of the content Ive seen from this site than romance. Although a little romance at least for me, greatly enhances that idea, and its depicted a lot here, just not nearly as much as furries just gettin busy.
Id say the main qualm just comes from the mainstream knowledge that you're supposed to kiss under mistletoe rather than holly, though, and kissing kinda leans more towards the romantic side unless you're Ungulatr.... lol. Love their work btw. Soooo I suppose misteltoe is more... thematically significant and would fit better? But you arent missing the mark by much using holly.
