Up next in the Team Katswell Character Guide we have one of Carmelita's partners at Interpol created by my good friend  shinragod, the cold yet caring kung fu mercenary Mai Ling. ^^

Mai Ling is a skilled martial artist, trained by some of the greatest fighters in the world to be a deadly force. She also wields a light and sleek blade that dates back to the Ming dynasty that is apparently strong enough to slice through steel.

Bio:
Born into a rich and rigid family in Kowloon, Hong Kong, Mai Ling ran away from home at the age of seven because she thought that living a wealthy lifestyle sounded boring. She eventually found herself in the custody of a martial arts master named Shi Lou, and learned every form of martial art that he knows. By the time she was eighteen, Mai left Lou to find her place in the world, only to have her talents discovered by a group of thugs that tried to rob her. The group, known as the "Assassin's Guild," were impressed by her skills, and she was landed a spot in the group, becoming a very powerful assassin.
For four years, Mai worked for the Guild accepting tasks that involved assassinating rich and powerful drug and weapons lords all over the world. One of her tasks had her cross paths and swords with DOOM founder and leader General Guar, who was dabbling in weapons transports for him to use to conquer the world. Her attempt to kill Guar didn't go so well, given how his fighting style was superior to hers. But, after her career, the Guild dissolved from existence, now living on as a popular video game series, and Mai went on to work as a mercenary for hire, offering her services to anyone who's willing to pay her.
Eventually, Mai found work at Interpol, working as a partner for Inspector Carmelita Fox and her partner Sarah Brendhart. She first took the job to fill out her mercenary role, and bury her bloodied past as an assassin, so she didn't want to bond with them at first. She was particularly annoyed by Sarah's care-free, upbeat personality, and wasn't fond of Carmelita's by-the-book devotion to crime-fighting. But, over time, Mai learned the importance of friendship, and began to trust in her news friends more, albeit at a slow rate.
Sometime later, Mai's services were called in again when Carmelita requested for her to join her and Sarah to investigate a series of robberies in Petropolis, California. She was hesitant at first, but ultimately gave in seeing it as a chance to meet the city's heroes, Team Katswell. So, she accompanied them, and met up with the Team's leader, Kitty Katswell, at a cocktail bar one Saturday night. But, little did she suspected that they would get a surprise visit from the Cooper Gang, who were planning on stopping Ripclaw from remaking Clockwerk's "Hate Chip." Kitty believed that Sly was their best link to Ripclaw, and decided to team up with him. Mai couldn't believe it at first, but the team-up proved to be effective, and both groups were able to thwart Ripclaw before he even had a chance to re-built the Hate Chip. Afterwards, she returned to Paris with Carmelita and Sarah, but continued her mercenary work outside of Interpol when she got hired by Ethan Retriever himself.

Personality & Traits:
Mai Ling has a very cold and distant personality. This is partly because of her former experience as an assassin, and the fact that her master threw her into the world without a sense of direction. She's basically mad at her master for teaching her the skills she knows, and only became an assassin because they were the only ones interested in her talents. Because of these problems, Mai is very resentful, and does her best to hold her feelings in.
Mai also protects her independence, and doesn't trust any man to be with her at all. But, her experience with Team Katswell, given that most of them are guys, has made her think otherwise, even making her develop a crush on Niles Crocston of sorts. She even thought that Kitty was her long-lost twin sister given how the two look strangely identical to each other. But, she had the most trouble warming up to Carmelita and Sarah, given their personalities tend to get on her nerves at times.
Mai enjoys nothing more than a nice cup of Chaozhou tea, but doesn't like fast food at all, which is why she turned down the offer to get a burger from Sarah. She also enjoys writing poetry and collecting ancient Chinese weapons as a hobby on the side. She enjoys meditating as well, but is always at the ready to help out her possible allies in dealing with crime all over the world.
