Found this in a box of old art that wasn't yet burned up, From the Barr Wars days. Barr Wars was a back then, mailed in artists Zap wars among a core of artists.
And in the wars, Red Shetland fell in love with Terrie Smith's centaur, Dutch. It was the start of a joke that took three years to tell and drop like a nuke on Donna Barr. And man did it work!!!
Dutch and Red even had a elaborate wedding , the artists involved, many attending SDCC and involved with Ed Pegg's Cantaurs Gatherum zine. We (the artists) literally in one night, joint jammed drew up a massive Wedding sequence at SDCC, we even had a wedding cake!!
Red, being a good wife, would knock the shit out of anybody going after Dutch, and Dutch would even sire three kids with Red (A son, Steinling (The MAIN Jab at the joke involving Barr) and a set of twin daughters. C-Sections, both pregnancies' ) The alliances involved with the artists was often WTF?
I found some of the old Barr Wars gags, might run some here. This would look color colored up.

Yeah, When Donna purposely killed the hybrid bastard kid of Stinz and a feral horse, who's mentality was that of a moron. But the character was hugely popular with the Barr warriors. Donna had him drown in a flood, basically saying the character was dead, no more need to draw him again.
Thats when Terrie and I launched the gag to end all gags that took three years to tell. When Red got pregnant, we played the gag and at SDCC the next year at the Barr wars party, we popped the surprise on Donna. As Red and Dutch's son looked just like Steinling, plus would be intelligent since both parents were. Dutch said in the debut art "Donna, we named our son after the one you lost tragically, meet our son Steinling."
Donna damn near hemmoraged in shock. Best part was, just about everybody was in on the gag and Donna yelled at everyone "You assholes knew this that long and nobody leaked the info to me to counteract this?"
We even had Dutch and Red name the Desert Peach the Godfather. Donna graciously drew an appreciative Peach welcoming the child and proudly accepting the title.
Donna quit the wars a month later cause she literally had no good comeback reply to zap back.

I developed the Mom's legs, dad's head rules for exotics. My rules use of not as you please.
The Usual Rules
Exotics combine the traits of both parents in the most likely or most desired, when magic is used to control the process, combination. Few rules govern exactly what these creatures must look like.
Kind to Kind Rule: Crosses between any two mammals or any two egg layers will generally produce a viable offspring.
Kind to Unkind Rule: Crosses between egg-laying species and live-bearers require intervention. I.E. Bird/human crosses cannot spontaneously happen. However, male egg layer to female mammal will sometimes work.
Mom's legs Rule: Exotic hybrids will have the same number of legs as the mother. This is the reason most deliberate Exotics are made with human females. Bipeds are the desired result. Four-legged mothers will result in some manner of "taur"
Dad's Head Rule: The offspring generally will have a head that looks like the sire.
You Did What? Rule: Exotic to Exotic breedings are most often unfortunate if a viable offspring is gotten at all. Many exotics are sterile, too messed up to even breed.
Don't You Believe It Rule: The Above rules are not certain. Without magical intervention anything is possible. With magical intervention the sky is the limit.

My character breeding rule is as such, Ungulates can breed with other ungulates , BUT the odds are greater against them when the species is vastly different. I'll use Red and Sir Karl as example, Red COULD get pregnant, but the odds are against her, perhaps 1-100.Plus the child would look more like the birth mother, with some hints of the sire. As in Karl's case, the child would look more horse -like, but the nostrils would be narrower, muzzle more tapered, ears a bit wider, not so horse shaped, more a 50-50 mix. If a male, no antlers as he grows up. The tail would be shorter, bushier. Feet possibly split hooved.
In Red and Dutch's case, Both Terrie and I played God and allowed it, Steinling was a horse headed centaur, along with one of his sisters, the other sister was more satyr, yet the twin of the horse headed centaur sister.
A story I drew up, doubtful the art survives, was a camel and a zebra couple, The mother was the camel, managed to get pregnant, but the daughter looked very much like mom, but with larger, more pointed ears, longer tail and tuft, and the daughter had dark (Not black, more a chocolate brown) stripeage on lower limbs. Muzzle was slightly more squarish like the father with a slightly darker muzzle. But an elephant cannot breed with a cow, or gazelle with a giraffe as examples. The various deer can inter breed with the antelope clan, camels can inter breed with the llama/alpaca set, swine only with other pig types. Yeah, I can be a harsh God.
Reptiles cannot breed with mammals , ocean critters cannot breed with land dwellers, felines and canines cannot inter breed. Birds are only with birds. Certain other hybrids are verbotten, like sergals, the shark tailed critters. Plus unlike in BoJack Horseman, no damn fish or intelligent insects are mixing in with the others, and unlike Tuca and Bertie, NO FUCKING PLANT PEOPLE!!

So much for dogs and cats living together. I'm surprised about no gazelle/giraffe, they are both ungulates.
In fantasy we make our own rules. The magic of Thindacarulle is the only reason the hybrids are even possible.
I also make a difference between exotics, which are sentient to animal breeding, and not generally fortunate people, and hybrids which are, sentient to sentient IE half Elves or half Centaur.
Cross genus is possible as the rules mention. Looser than your rules.
