Chapter 4: Science, Lunch and More Friends and Rivals


After Math, it was Chemistry class. At the science lab, Max sat with Mikey and Jenny. “I’m not sure about this.” Max said nervously. “I’ve never had Chemistry lessons before.”


“Don’t worry, Max. You have us to help you.” Jenny assured him. “Besides, if you can handle the jungle, then what’s so hard about Chemistry.” “Besides, I know someone who is great in this subject” added Mikey, before a voice called out. “Cousin Mikey!”


The three friends turned to see a skinny looking boy, wearing a green shirt, blue shorts and glass spectacles. “Cousin Bean!” exclaimed Mikey, giving the said boy a hug. “It’s so good to see you again, cuz!” “Good to see you too, cuz” said Bean.


“Max, this is my cousin, Bean.” He introduced. “He’s one of the smartest students in this school and has won 10 spelling bees every year.” He explained, proudly, causing Bean to go red with embarrassment. "Come on, cuz. You're embarrassing me" said Bean.


"Bean is the best in Chemistry." added Mikey “If you need any help, he’s your man.” "Nice to meet you, Max" greeted Bean, shaking Max's hand. “I’m glad to help you in any way I can.” Assured Bean.


“Thanks” said Max. He was happy that he won't be alone in this new school. Soon the teacher arrived and gave out lab coats to wear, before explaining the rules of the science lab.

(2 hours later…)

At lunch, Max sat with Bean, Mikey and Jenny.


“You mean you were raised in the jungle?!” exclaimed Bean excitedly, causing Max to blush in embarrassment. “Yeah,” giggled Jenny. “that was pretty much our reaction too.”


“Oh, its nothing to get so excited about.” Explained Max, before he started gobbling down his spaghetti, much to his friends’ shock and the other students’ disgust.


“Woah, dude, are you okay?” asked Mikey. “Yeah, why?” Max asked, confused. “Uh, it’s because you’ve act as if you haven’t eaten in centuries” pointed out Jenny, in slight disgust. Max blinked in confusion, before looking around to see many of the students staring at him.


Embarrassed, Max immediately took out a tissue and wiped the tomato sauce from his mouth and chin. “Heheheh….” He said nervously. “Sorry about that.” he explained. “Yeah” Jenny, Mikey and Bean just sweatdropped.


“How disgusting.”


“As if that jungle freak wasn’t bad enough, now he has terrible table manners.”


“Makes me wonder why is he even in this school in the first place.”


Max heard the whispers and lowered his head in shame. It seemed that he would never fit in.


“Hey, everyone look!” a voice called out. “Rena’s here!” At the word, all of the students excitedly gathered around at a corner of the canteen. Max was confused by this and noticing his three friends excited expressions, he was even more surprised.


“Uh, who’s Rena?” asked Max, causing his friends to look at him in disbelief. “You’ve never heard of Rena?” asked Mikey. “She is the star pupil of the entire school” he explained. “Yeah!” added Jenny “She’s the student council president and is the daughter of Mr LodgeWorth, one of the most successful and wealthest businessman in America.”


Max was amazed at this information but before he could ask more, they all saw her arrive. Rena was an extremely beautiful girl with slivery purple hair. She wore a lovely white shirt and a light blue skirt. She had bright blue eyes, the colour of the wings of a morpho butterfly and a lovely sweet smile on her face.


Max was amazed and felt a strange aura around her that made me feel calm. All around her, all students waved at her and asked her to sit with us. However, all Rena did was smile and politely decline.


Max smiled, he had never seen anyone being treated with so much kindness and respect. As he watched, he noticed that Rena was coming over to him, much to the surprise of the other students.


“Nice to meet you, Yamato” greeted Rena, kindly with a smile. Max was surprised that such a beautiful girl was speaking to him. “It’s nice to meet you too.” Max said shaking her hand. “I’m glad that there is a new student in our school.” Rena explained. “I’ve heard you were raised in the jungles of Africa, is it true?” Max nodded, embarrassed and slightly ashamed.


“Oh, it’s alright. There’s no need to be embarrassed.” Max was surprised at her words. “I’m just curious. I’ve heard stories of children being raised by animals from my grandfather.” “If you need any help, I’m always happy to help you.”


Max smiled gratefully, while Mikey, Bean and Jenny smiled to themselves. Seems that he won’t be alone after all.

(30 minutes later...)

After lunch, Max was at the school gymnastics room for P.E. He was glad that he made some friends but for some strange reason, Max was thinking about the strange dreams he kept having.


“I can’t get my mind of those dreams. What could they mean?” he thought. He didn’t had time to think about it as more students started pouring in the gym.


“Hey, Max, I like you to meet someone.” Max turned to see Mikey with two tall, slightly muscular man. “This is David and Jake, David is one of the best basketball players in the school. and Jake is excellent in outdoor activities” “Yo, Max, nice to meet you.” David greeted, smiling. "I'm glad that you're joining our class today." added Jake. “Thanks. You too” said Max, shaking their hands.


“So, this is the so called jungle boy.” A voice spoke up. The boys turned to see a red haired boy, handsome and lean, with eyes as cold and blue as ice and an orange hair streak. With him was Bruce and two boys, one slightly plump with black hair and another who was skinnier and lean.


“Oh, great, it’s you Shun.” Groaned Jake. “What do you want?” “Hey, you better show some respect to Shun.” Growled the fat boy. “Look, Louis, we don’t want any trouble, okay” added David. “Humph. The only trouble around here is him.” Said Bruce, gesturing to Max.


The skinny boy spoke up, “I agree, Bruce. So what if he is from Africa. With his behaviour, he doesn’t belong here.” “Dude, Harold, harsh. He’s a new student. We should make him feel welcome.” Scolded Mikey. “Tch….” the said boy humphed. Shun walked forward and stared at Max with cold, blue eyes. He spoke "Personally, I find this boy nothing but a disgrace to the name of our school."


"Shun!" Daniel exclaimed. "What?" asked Shun, nonchalantly. "I'm merely stating the truth about him." Turning to Max, he said, "Listen, savage. This school is for well-educated people like us. Don't think for a second you are welcome here and know your place." With that, Shun walked away, with his lackeys following behind.


“Damn.” Said David. “That Shun is always so full of himself. He thinks the whole world revolves around that big head of his.” “What do you expect?” asked Mikey. “The guy’s a member of the student council with good grades and strong athletic qualities." "Not to mention that he is the son of Saki. one of the wealthiest men in USA.” Max narrowed his eyes as he watched Shun leave. He could sense his arrogance and pride from just the smell of him and figured he won’t be seeing the last of him.


“Hey, Max. It’s alright.’” Assured Mikey. “Don’t listen to what that jerk says.” “Yeah” Max agreed, but didn’t sound so sure.
