Chapter 13: The Wild Guardian Part 2
“Are we there yet?” groaned Jake. Jenny replied, “If you would stop whining, we would reach there faster.” “Hey, come on, young’uns.” Misoto encouraged them “We’re nearly there.”
The group continued to trek through the forest. After their encounter with the grizzly, everyone crowded around Max and kept asking him how he was able to tame it. Max, too, was confused by this and embarrassed by their words. Misoto couldn’t help but chuckle at his grandson’s plight.
Finally, to everyone’s amazement, they arrived at a huge cave on the side of a mountain. “We’re here, everyone.” Misoto explained. The teens stared in confusion. “What, this is it?” David asked, incredulously. “Jii-chan, what’s in there?” asked Max.
Misoto turned to Max and placed a hand on his shoulder. “My boy,” he said “these answers to the questions that you are seeking who are you meant to be.” He gestured into the cave and added “Go inside and you will find out for yourself.”
"Wait," asked Jake, "you want him to go in there?" Everyone stared at the cave. It was pitch dark inside and everyone was nervous. Max took a deep breath. "I'm going in." He decided, causing his friends to look at him in shock. "Max, are you serious?" Asked Mikey. Max nodded his head.
"Max, this is crazy!" Jenny exclaimed in protest. "Jen's right!" Added Jake. "It could be dangerous." "I know that." Replied Max. "It also might be the key of what's happening to me." "Besides," he added. "Do you really think my grandpa would bring us to the middle of the forest for nothing." Everyone was silent. No one spoke a word.
Jenny sighed. "Well, there's no way that you're going in alone." She said "I'm coming with you." "I'm coming with you, too." Mikey added. "Me three." David added as well. "Well," Jake said. "If all of you are going in, then I am too." Jake said. Max smiled. "Thanks, guys."
"So," he said. "is everyone ready?" Max's friends nodded. "I'll wait for you kids, out here." Misoto explained. "Sure thing, Jii-Chan." Max replied. Turning to the cave, he spoke "Okay, guys, here we go." With that, Max and his friends slowly entered the cave.
"Uh, guys," Jake asked, "how are we going to see? It’s pitch black." "Max," Jenny exclaimed. "your necklace!" Max looked at his chest and to his and everyone's surprise, the fox totem was glowing brightly in a golden light. "Everyone, look!" Jake exclaimed. The friends looked up and to their shock, the walls of the cave started to glow and paintings started to appear on the wall.
"Woah..." Mikey whispered in amazement.
"It's amazing." Jenny whispered, her eyes wide.
Max was the most shocked out of all of them. It was like déjà vu all over again. All the paintings were guiding them deeper into the cave. "Well," Max said "at least, we won't get lost."
(15 mins later...)
"This is amazing!" Jenny squealed. "This is nothing like I've ever seen before!" "Yeah!" Added David "It's like the movie 10,000 BC!" The friends continued to make their way deeper into the cave, all the while admiring the paintings on the wall.
"I never thought I would see this again." Max said, out loud "Wait, you've been in here before?" Asked Mikey, surprised. Everyone stared at Max in shock. "Not exactly." Max explained. "I found another cave just like this one when I was in Africa."
"Really?!" Jake exclaimed. "Yeah, but I was very young at that time." Max said. "Hey, guys!" Mikey shouted, pointing "Look there!" When the friends looked at Mikey's direction, their eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
Right before them was a large cavern with 22 huge stone runes arranged in a large circle, carved on them was a picture of an animal. The cave paintings seemed to surround the entire area. In the middle of the circle, was a small stone pedestal. To Max, it was like the splitting image of the cave he entered when he was lost in the jungle those 10 years ago.
"Okay" Jake whispered. "This is like those fantasy movie scenes." Max whispered "I'm going in." His friends were a little anxious but continued to follow him as they walked into the stone circle. The friends walked around and studied the runes for a while.
Mikey went over to look at the pedestal. "Hey, guys, check this out." Everyone gathered around and surrounded the small structure. "So, what do we do with it?" David asked.
"Max," Jenny asked, turning to him. "Why don't you put your necklance on it?" Max was surprised. "My necklance?" He asked. "Yeah." Mikey replied "It made all these paintings appear so it must do something if you put it on top." Max was a little hesitant at first but decided that since they were here, it was worth a shot.
Max took off his fox totem necklance and placed it on the pedestal. Everyone stepped back and went over to Max. They waited for a while, but nothing seemed to happen. "Uhmmm," David asked "So, what now?"
At that moment, much to the friends' shock, the necklace started to lift itself in the air and the totem glowed brightly. All around the cavern, the painting began to glow. Then, a bright flash of light appeared, making the friends cover their eyes.
When the light died down, Max was the first to open his eyes. As he did, they widened in shock. "It's you, again." He breathed. "From my dream."
The others slowly uncovered their eyes and noticed Max staring ahead. When they looked, their eyes also widened in astonishment.
Right before them was the most beautiful woman they had ever seen. Her long, lovely golden hair draped over her shoulders and her beautiful green Roman dress gleamed in the light. Her eyes were like two diamonds, glistening and around her head, was a laurel of flowers. She looked at the teens and noticed Max.
"Hello, my champion." She said, her voice as clear and sweet as honey. "I'm glad to see you, again." she added, smiling gently. Everyone was shocked to hear that. They looked at Max, who was staring in awe.
For Max, he knew all too well, that this was the same woman in his dream. "Mother Nature." He whispered.
