Chapter 17: Training Part 3: Boxing
Max found himself standing in front of a large punching bag, wearing boxing gloves. “Now, the first thing about boxing,” Mikey explained, wearing boxing gloves of his own. “is that you have to wary at all times.” “Boxing is an unpredictable sport, like martial arts,” he added, “you never know what your opponent might do next.” “Sure, Mikey.” Max answered. “It’s just that these gloves are really uncomfortable.” He groaned while looking at his gloves.
“These gloves will protect your hands from any injury.” Mikey explained. “Now, let see show you how it’s done.” Max stood back a little. Mikey lifted up his arms in a fighting position and hopped around a little. Then, he started punching the bag, giving off all sorts of different attacks.
“Sometimes,” he added, continuing to punch. “the best defense is a strong offense.” “You also have to use your brains, not your brawns when boxing.” “Now,” Mikey stepped away from the bag. “it’s your turn.” Max stepped forward. “Okay, I can do this.” He told himself mentally.
“Hah!” Max yelled, as he started doing all sorts of boxing moves. He punched against the bag, while jumping around. “Not bad, Max!” Jake called out from the bleachers, with Jenny and David. “Show it what you’re made off!”
Max continued to punch the bag, but was starting to get tired. “Okay, no more holding back” Max decided, before closing his eyes. As he did, the fox totem started to glow and the golden aura surrounded him again. To the others’ shock, Max grew muscular again and brown fur grew all over his body. His hands became large paws, with long claws, ripping apart the boxing gloves and so did his feet. Fangs grew from his mouth. The golden aura took the form of a large grizzly bear growling and standing on its hind legs.
“Bear Claw Strike!!!” Grizzly-Max roared, before giving a swift punch to the bag. The force of the punch was so strong, that the bag was sent flying straight to the wall and burst on impact. Everyone stared in shock, as Max turned back to normal. “Uh, is that okay?” Max asked.
“Well,” chuckled Mikey. “looks like you’ve got boxing down.” “We owe the boxing club a new punching bag and new boxing gloves, though.” David pointed out. “Don’t worry about that.” Jake said. “Now, let’s get down to the real action.” He finished smirking.
“What is that?” Max asked, nervously. Jake smirked. “Let’s wrestle!”
(5 mins later…)
Jake and Max were standing in the middle of a clearing. “I didn’t know you took wrestling, Jake.” Max told him. “Oh, I took some lessons from my dad.” Jake explained. “Never mind about that, now.” He added. “Let’s get started.”
Max smirked. “Bring it on.” The two of them stared each other down before Mikey raised his hand and brought it down, shouting “Fight!”
Jake and Max rushed forward and tackled each other. Both of them pushed, grappled and struggled in an attempt to push each other out of the arena. “Not bad, Max,” Jake exclaimed, as they struggled. “but it’s going to take a lot more to bring me down!” “We’ll see about that, Jake!” Max answered.
They continued to struggle, neither one backing down, even tackling each other in the ground while the others cheered them on. “Come on, jungle boy!” Jake shouted. “Show me your inner animal!” “I don’t need to let out my inner animal!” Max yelled. At that moment, Max grabbed Jake by his neck, and everyone’s shock, lifted him off the air as if he was a bag of feathers.
“Woah, woah, woah!” Jake yelled in astonishment. “How about this?!” Max yelled back. With that, he spun around and threw Jake off a few feet away from the arena as if he was made of cotton.
“Jake is out of the arena!” Mikey declared. “Max is the winner!” Jenny and David cheered. Max went over to Jake and held out his hand. “Let’s do it again some other time.” He said, grinning. Jake grinned back. “Sure thing, Max.” he replied, accepting the hand and getting back on his feet.
The others went over to them. “Max, you never fail to surprise me!” Mikey said, grinning. “Yeah, dude!” David added. “I can’t wait to find out what other forms you have!” Jenny leaned towards Max, with a smile on her face. “You’re full of surprises, Max,” she said. “and that’s what I like about you the most.”
Max grinned as he looked at his friends, eagerly looking forward to their next training session.
