Chapter 19: Animal Forms Part 1
The gang found themselves in a forest, the tall oak trees cast huge shadows from the sun. “Are you sure about this?” David asked. “Yeah!” Max replied. “This is the perfect place.” He added. “It’s larger, more spacious and it’s few yards from my house, so we won’t bother anyone.”
“I guess so.” Mikey said. “I must admit, this is a better place to train your shapeshifting powers.” “Still, what can we do for training here?” Jenny asked. Max looked around and breathed in the fresh air. He closed his eyes and listened.
He heard the song of birds and chattering of squirrels in the trees, the wind blowing through the leaves, the sound of rushing water in the river. “Max, are you alright?” Jenny asked, worriedly. Max opened his eyes and to everyone’s surprise and in Jenny’s case, fluster, started to take off his clothes.
“Max, what are you doing?!” Jake exclaimed, his cheeks turning red. Max didn’t answer, as he stood naked with his back to his friends, as from the day he was born. He closed his eyes and concentrated hard. All at once, his fox totem glowed brightly and to his friends’ shock, tattoos appeared all over his body.
All off a sudden, Max began to change. He dropped down on all fours as grey fur grew out all over his body, his hands and feet turned into paws, his ears became rounded and a long bushy-like tail sprouted from his behind. His mouth grew longer until it became a muzzle with sharp, pointed fangs. His eyes turned a feral gold. With the transformation complete, Max turned to his friends, who were all staring in amazement.
Jenny whispered. “Max, is that you?” Max lifted his head and gave out a loud howl. “AAAAAARRRRRROOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!” Max had turned into a timber wolf. “Cool!!!!” Mikey squealed in excitement. David and Jake gaped in wonder with wide eyes. Wolf-Max sat down, lolled out his tongue and wagged his tail as if he were a dog. Jenny giggled. “He’s kind of cute, acting like that.”
Wolf-Max sniffed the air and walked around, sniffing the ground. “What’s he doing?” Mikey asked. Wolf-Max suddenly looked up and sniffed. At that moment, he hurried off. “Max!” Jenny cried. “Where’re you going?” She and the others took off after him.
(15 mins later…)
“How…huh… how long has…he been…running?!” David panted. Everyone was having a hard time keeping up with Wolf-Max, given that wolves are excellent runners and they were all getting tired. David, in particular, carried Max’s clothes “Max…wait up!” Jenny called out.
At that moment, they found Max at an open field. They stopped, much to their relief. “Max, what are you looking for, anyway?” Jake asked. Wolf-Max sniffed low and started to approach something as if he was sneaking on someone or something. His pointed ears twitched and he crouched low.
Everyone stared. “What’s he doing?” Mikey asked in confusion. “I think he’s hunting.” Jenny whispered. The guys looked at her in shock. “Hunting?” David asked increduleously. “Guys, shhhh!!” Jake hissed. “Max’s found something!”
Wolf-Max crept closer before lunging with a loud “Rrrrrrraaaaahhhhaaaahhhh!!!!!”. A brown rabbit leapt out of the bush and bounded off. Wolf-Max chased after it. He weaved and bobbed as he chased after the rabbit. Everyone watched excitedly.
Finally, the rabbit started to tire and seeing his chance, Wolf-Max lunged and bit the rabbit’s back, sinking his fangs into the flesh and fur. He lifted the rabbit in his mouth and shook it, like a hound does when it’s caught its quarry. When he was sure that the rabbit was dead, he laid down and started eating it.
“Max!” His friends cried out rushing towards him. However, they stopped and cringed in disgust and slight horror when they saw him tucking away at the rabbit, ripping the flesh and swallowing in chunks. “Max!” David exclaimed. “You do realise that you’re eating raw meat, right?!” Wolf-Max looked up from his kill, his muzzle stained with blood.
“Max, stop that,” Jake added, walking towards him “and get away from that.” He reached down to grab the dead, half-eaten rabbit. “Grroowwwwrraaahhaahhhh!!!” Wolf-Max snarled and snapped his jaws at Jake’s hand. “Wooaahh!!” Jake exclaimed, barely managing to pull his hand to safety. “Woah, Max!” Mikey added. “It’s us! What’s gotten into you?”
“Rrrrrrrrhhhhhhh…” Wolf-Max snarled again and went back to his eating. Everyone stared at him for a moment. Finally, Jenny spoke up. “I think its best that we’ve don’t disturb Max while he’s eating.” Everyone looked at her. “I mean, animals are more aggressive when it comes to food.” She added.
“Yeah, I just so.” Jake replied, uncertain about this. By now, Wolf-Max had finished his meal and switched back to human form. “Mmmm…” he licked his lips, while standing up. “That was delicious.” “Sorry about that, guys.” He added, turning to his friends. “I was getting hungry.” He was surprised to see his friends’ shocked faces and in Jenny’s case, her cheeks were turning bright red. “Guys, what’s wrong?” he asked, confused.
He looked down and saw that he was wearing nothing, naked like a baby being born. “Oooohhhhhhh…” he said, before looking at his friends. “There’s nothing to worry about.”
