Chapter 22: Never a Dull Moment with Max Yamato
In the building of Mc.Hannibal, late at night, the latter was heading through his robotics lab with Slick, where hundreds of scientists were building all sorts of automatic appliances, that will delivered to any customer all over to the state.
“Mr.Hannibal, I am sure you will love our new project!” Slick exclaimed. “It will be the highlight off your career!” “It will be the start of a new era for mankind!” he added.
Mc.Hannibal rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah.” He muttered. “Let’s just get this over with, so that I can get back to my sauna.”
“Of course, sir!” Slick answered. He led Mc.Hannibal in a small lab room where five scientists were surrounding a large cylinder like container. “Mr Hannibal!” the head scientist exclaimed, a lean African-American man. “Seems to me that you got a bad case of the grumps, as usual.”
“Shut it, Vincent!” Mc.Hannibal yelled. “I’ve got a sauna spot with my name on it, so let’s hurry it up!” Vincent smirked. “Of course, Mr Hannibal.” “Allow me to direct your attention here.” He explained, gesturing to the container. With that, he pressed a button on a switch.
“Psssssshhhhhhh…” a door opened from the large container, a mist billowed out from the bottom. To Mc.Hannibal’s shock, a figure stepped out. It looked like a human man but was covered in a shiny, black metallic material. It had joints on its arms and legs and its face had only two computerized blue eyes and a mouth.
“Meet the new face of America’s security, the Securi-tron 3000!” Vincent exclaimed. “This android has been implanted with various fighting styles and martial arts.” He explained. “This cyber-human is designed to do tasks that few humans have ever dreamed off.”
“Imagine the possibilities of this mechanism.” He added. “Police officers, firefighters, soldiers, rescue volunteers, it can do them all!” “With the Securi-tron 3000, no human will have to risk their lives as these androids will help to protect people from any threat!”
“Impressive!” Mc.Hannibal exclaimed in amazement. “I never seen anything like it!” Vincent smiled smugly. “I know, right!” “With this android, no city will be threatened!”
The android walked in front of Mc.Hannibal and to his delight bowed to him. “Greeting, master.” The android asked in a robotic tone “How may I be of service to you?” Mc.Hannibal chuckled. “Well, I could use a bodyguard.”
“Of course, master Hannibal.” the android replied. Mr.Hannibal smiled wider. “Perfect.” “Vincent,” he asked, turning to the said scientist. “have you made more of these?” “Of course, Mr Hannibal.” Vincent replied. “This is just one of hundreds of Securi-trons we have designed.”
“Good.” Mc.Hannibal said. “They will be perfect for me.” “And will put an end to this so-called Wild Guardian.” He added internally, smirking evilly.
(Friday afternoon…)
It was the end of school. Students were pouring out of Weston High. Max, in particular, was with his friends. “So, you guys have any plans?” he asked.
“How about we go to the library to study?” Mikey asked. “Sure, we need to brush up on our studies.” Jenny replied. “It’s a good thing, the library is just nearby.”
“Well, well, if it isn’t the tomboy.” A condescending voice sounded. The friends turned and saw Sophie, strutting towards them like a peacock. “Oh no, not her.” Jenny groaned.
“Hey, Jen, where are you off too?” Sophie asked. “Going off to practice your taekwondo as usual?” “No, Sophie.” Jenny answered, coolly. “I’m going to the library to study with my friends.”
“Ohh, that’s new!”. Sophie answered. “I always figured that you were just a kung-fu obsessed manic who only cared about fighting.” Jenny glared coldly and balled her hands into fists. David decided to step in, in case the situation got out of hand.
“Hey, girls.” He said. “Let’s not start anything.” “Let’s just go to the library and put this behind us.” Sophie rolled her eyes. “Fine by me.” She said. “Besides, why would I want to hang out with her?” “I’ve got other plans off my own, such as checking out that new shoe store.” With that, she walked off.
“Uuurrrraaaagggghhhhh!!!!” Jenny yelled. “One of these days, that girl is going to get what’s coming to her!” Max placed a hand on her shoulder. “It’s alright, Jenny.” He assured her, smiling. “Don’t listen to her. You’re perfect just the way you are.”
Jenny blushed, smiling shyly. “Thanks, Max.” “Well,” Mikey added. “what are we waiting for? We better hurry to the library.”
(3 hours later…)
“Urrgh!” Jake groaned. “I thought we would be stuck in that library forever!” Jenny rolled her eyes. “Come on, Jake.” She replied. “It was only three hours.” “Well, I prefer the outdoors than indoors.” Jake answered.
The friends were just returning home from their study in the library. They had spent the 3 hours revising or doing homework. “So, you all want to hang out in the arcade?” Mikey asked.
“Nah,” David answered. “I don’t feel like playing.” “Me neither.” Added Jake. Jenny shook her head. “What about you, Max?” Mikey asked.
Max shook his head. “No thanks, Mikey.” Mikey sighed. “Oh well, all the more for me.”
Suddenly, Max stopped abruptly, causing his friends to pause as well. “Max, why did you stop?” Jenny asked. Max remained silent, he looked off at a distance, his eyes narrowed.
“Max, what’s wrong?” asked Jake, confused. “Guys, did you hear that?” Max asked, softly. “Hear what?” David said, confused as well. “That sound, guys.” Max replied. “Can’t you hear it?” Everyone listened. “I don’t hear anything.” Mikey said. “Me neither.” David added.
“Max, what’s wrong?” Jenny asked, worriedly. “Guys, someone’s in trouble!” Max exclaimed. Before his friends could understand, Max took off. “Woah, Max!” Mikey cried. “Where are you going?!”.
The others followed him but it was quite hard, given that Max had a headstart and he was quite fast. “Max!” Jenny cried. “Slow down!”
(20 mins later…)
They didn’t know how long they ran, but they finally caught up with Max, who was staring at something from around a corner of a street. “Max…!” Mikey panted. “What…are…you…doing?” “Yeah…!” David added. “Why… did…you…run…off…like that?”
“Guys, keep quiet.” Max answered. Everyone was confused. “Max, what is going on?” Jenny asked, a little annoyed, walking over to him. When she looked at his direction, she let out a gasp in shock.
From the corner, they saw a couple being forced to a wall. Surrounding them, were three burly and armed masked men, two carrying knifes and the third pointing a pistol at them.
“Please, don’t hurt us.” The woman whimpered. Her boyfriend held out one of his arms while wrapping her around with the other. “Look, let’s talk this over.” He said, trying to reason with them. “I’ve got money. Just take what you want.”
“Oh, it’s not just your money.” One of the thugs sneered. “We also want the pearls around the lady’s neck.” Said girl, clutched her necklace. “Don’t!” she wailed. “This necklace is a heirloom from my family!” “Oh, boo-hoo…” the second thug said sarcastically. “Too bad. Give it over, lady!”
From the corner, the friends watched in horror. “Oh ****, man!” David whispered. “What do we do, guys?” “What do you mean?!” Mikey replied. “Those men got knifes and a gun!” “We should just call the police.” “Already on it.” Jake answered, whipping out his phone and calling 911.
“Max, how did you know that there was a robbery?” Jenny asked. Before Max could answer, there was a loud noise followed by a scream, “Aaaaaahhhh!!!”. The friends turned and to their horror, one of the thugs had punched the man and he was lying on the ground, groaning in pain.
“Now, lady.” Growled the first thug. “I ain’t gonna ask twice.” “Either you hand over your necklace or,” he grabbed her boyfriend and held him at gunpoint. “your boyfriend dies.” The poor lady was near a breakdown. “Please, Grace.” The man whimpered. “Don’t do it.”
“I’ve got a better idea.” A voice called out. The thugs and the victims turned and to their surprise, they saw a 17–year-old boy standing before them, with his arms crossed and a determined look on his face. “Why don’t you let them go and try using your weapons on me?” he challenged.
“Huh?” the thug asked. “Hey, guys?” Mikey spoke up. “Who’s that?” “I don’t know.” Jenny replied. “Uh, guys, where’s Max?” David asked. The friends looked to see that Max wasn’t with them. It wasn’t until it sank in.
3…2…1…
“OMG!” they all screamed in horror. “That’s Max out there!!!” Said boy, who was facing those gangsters. “This ain’t your business kid, so get lost!” the third thug barked. “Yeah, or else, you want to get a bullet in your head.” Added the first gangster, aiming his pistol at Max.
“Oh yeah?” Max asked. Before the first gangster knew what hit him, he was kicked in the face and sent flying a few feet towards a lamp-post, causing him to drop his pistol. The others stared in shock as Max dusted his leg. “Now, who’s next?” he asked again.
“You son of a *****!!” the second gangster yelled, charging forward while brandishing his knife. He tried slashing at him, but Max was able to dodge them. Seeing a chance, Max grabbed the gangster’s arm and with all his might, threw him over his shoulder and onto a wall, causing it to shatter a bit.
“Okay, kid!” the third gangster growled. “You’re dead!”. With that, he charged forward with his knife. However, Max was expecting this. He simply dodged out of the way, kneed him on the guts and elbowed him on the back of his neck, knocking him unconscious.
“You ********!” a voice called out. Max turned to see the first gangster, grabbing his pistol and struggling to his feet. “You’re gonna pay for that!” “Oh yeah?” Max smirked. “Say bye bye, *******!” the gangster fired a shot at him, only for Max to dodge the bullet.
“What the…!” The gangster fired more shots, but Max rushed forward, effectively dodging every single one of them. When he was close enough, he kneed him on the gut, making him drop his gun again. He gave him a punch to the face and kicked him to a nearby trash bin, making a huge dent in the bin.
There was silence for a while. At that moment, Max’s friends raced out. “Max, are you alright?!” Mikey asked. “Yeah, I’m fine.” Max said. “What were you thinking?!” Jenny screamed. “That was a really crazy and stupid thing to do!” Max bend his head low in embarrassment. “Sorry about that.”
“Sir, Miss,” David asked. “are you alright?” “Yeah, I’m okay.” The man stood up, rubbing his sore cheek, with his girlfriend placing a comforting arm around his shoulder. “Thank you, young man.” She said to Max. “Don’t worry about that, Miss.” Max said politely.
“I just called the police.” Jake said. “They’re on their way right now.” “Thank you.” The man said. “But, how did you know that we were in trouble?” “This street is quite secluded, we took this path as a shortcut when we were returning home from our date.”
Mikey smiled “You have Max to thank.” He explained. “He was the one who found and saved you.” “That reminds me.” Jenny spoke up, turning to Max, confused. “How did you know they were in trouble.” Max shrugged. “That’s easy, I heard the woman scream.”
The couple looked at Max in shock. “How is that possible?” the woman asked. “We were three blocks away.” Max’s friends stared at him in amazement. “I have good hearing.” He said simply.
Jenny shook her head and smiled. “You never fail to amaze us, Max Yamato.” she said to herself.
