Chapter 23: Trouble with Superiors
At 4pm, Max and his friends were having a break in Misoto’s Tea Emporium. “Dude,” Mikey said. “you kicked some major butt today!” “Yeah!” Jake added, “You made those thugs look like ragdolls compared to you!” “Thanks, guys.” Max replied. “I just wanted to help.”
“Well,” Jenny spoke up. “Your training certainly paid off.” “Thanks, Jenny.” Max answered, smiling. “After all, I have the best teachers.” This made his friends blush in embarrassment. “Aww, shucks, Max.” David bashfully said. “We didn’t do much.” “Yeah, Max.” Jenny added, her cheeks with a twinge of pink.
“Well, you young’uns seem to have quite a day.” Misoto appeared, carrying out a tray of tea. “It seems that your days are getting more exciting by the minute.” “You don’t know the half of it, Misoto.” Jake replied, taking a cup from the tray and blowing into it, before taking a sip.
“Well, I can assure you, Jake,” Misoto continued, as the friends took their cups. “nothing seems to get pass you kids.” “That’s the thing when you’re with Max.” He added. “He always has a way to make life unpredictable.” “Well, I wouldn’t say unpredictable.” Jenny replied, smiling mischeviously
At that moment, the bell rang as the door swung open. Almost instantly, all noise died down as a familiar figure walked inside with three burly men. When the friends looked behind, they were shocked to see that it was Slick.
“Hey, isn’t that Mc.Hannibal’s secretary?”
“Yeah, what’s he doing here?”
Slick looked around with a rather displeased look on his face. “Off all the trashheaps, you had to choose this miserable dump.” He muttered. The friends frowned, greatly offended by this, especially Max who narrowed his eyes.
“Dude, that’s harsh.” Whispered David. “Yeah.” Added Jake. “What a ***hole.” Misoto walked forward. “Can I help you, Sir?” he asked, politely. “We want something to eat, old man, so step on it.” Slick answered, rudely and bluntly.
“Of course, sir.” Misoto replied. “I’ll be right on it.” “You can sit there.” He said, gesturing to a table. Slick and his bodyguards simply just walked over and sat right down without so much as a thank you. Misoto walked back into the kitchen
“Honestly, how rude.” Jenny muttered. Max sighed. “Well, there’s nothing we can do at this point.” He said. “Let’s just finish our tea and leave.” “Yeah, I guess so.” Mikey muttered. “Still, what do you expect from Mc.Hannibal’s secretary?”
“Aaaahhh!” a scream was heard. Gasps were heard when one of Slicks henchmen, a large mustached man, grabbed hold of a waitress’s wrist. “Hello there, pretty.” He smirked. “What’s a nice lady like you, working in a dump like this?”
“Please, let go.” The girl whimpered, struggling a little. “Aww~~” the second henchman sneered, a scrawny man. “Don’t be scared, lady.” “Yeah, let’s have some fun.” The first bodyguard added. “Please, Sir.” The waitress pleaded to Slick. “Tell them to let me go.”
Slick smirked. “Sorry miss,” he said simply. “but I can’t control my friends if they want something.” The friends were horrified to hear that. “Hey, you!” Mikey shouted, standing up. “Leave her alone!” Everyone turned to him.
“Mind your own business!” the bodyguard snarled. “Oh really?” David replied, standing up as well. “It’s seems like you’ve made it our business.” With that, the man released his hold on the waitress and stood up, walking over. “Are you threatening me, boy?” he asked, in a low and dangerous tone, as he stood in front the two teens.
“Hold on a minute, Ronald.” Slick said, standing up while smirking. There was an uneasy silence as he walked over to Mikey and David. “Listen, kids.” He added. “I am a representive of Mr Hannibal from Mc.Hannibal Enterprises.” “So, peasants like the two of you, should learn to know your place.”
“Well, just became you’re the lapdog of some rich pompus doesn’t mean you can be such a big jerk to anyone or everyone.” Mikey angrily stated. Silence followed for a while. “Really, boy?” Slick asked, raising an eyebrow “Well, let me express my graditude.” “Ronald!!” he shouted.
“POW!” Horrified gasps as Ronald gave a swift punch to Mikey’s cheek, making him crash into a table. “Mikey!” his friends cried, rushing towards him. Mikey groaned as he sat on the floor and rubbed his check “You see, everyone!” Slick exclaimed so that everyone in the shop could hear him. “This is what happens to those who show disrespect!”
“We can all see that, Mr Slick!” another voice sounded. Said man turned to see Misoto coming out from the kitchen, a rather displeased look on his face. “If there is one thing I will not tolerate, it’s abuse of power.” “Why don’t you shut up, old man or you’re next!” Slick yelled. By now, the two other bodyguards got to their feet and approached him.
“Yeah, old man!” the third bodyguard shouted. “This ain’t your business.” “Why don’t you come here and say it to me, personally?” Misoto challenged. “Alright, old man!” the second man screamed. “You’re history!” before charging forward, his fist raised.
“BAM!!! CRRRAAASSSSHHHH!!!!” a fist collided with the bodyguard’s cheek, sending him flying straight to a wall. Everyone turned in shock at the person who punched him. “Max!” Jenny exclaimed.
Said teen, who was standing in front of his grandfather, with an enraged expression. Misoto whistled and chuckled. “You know, Maxy,” he joked. “I could have taken him on.” “Yeah, Jii-chan, you could have.” Max replied, smirking as well.
“Finnick!” Slick cried, before angrily turning to Max. “How dare you!” Max simply stood tall and glared back “Well, too bad.” He snarled. “You can say whatever you want, you can kick me, punch me, spit on me for all I care,” “But, no one hurts my friends or my family.” He finished. Misoto wisely moved out of the way, knowing **** is about to go down.
“Alright, boy, you asked for it!” Slick yelled. “Ronald, Matches, get him!” The other two henchmen approached forward. “Alright, kid, you’re coming with us.” Matches growled. However, as he grabbed hold of Max’s shirt, the latter seized his hand and twisted his arm with all his might. “Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!” Matches screamed in pain, before he was grabbed by the hair, thrown over Max’s shoulder and landed hard with his face on the ground.
“Hey, kid!” Ronald roared, slightly towering over him while cracking his knuckles. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” “Bring it on.” Max taunted, smirking.
“RRRRAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!” Ronald yelled, punching at him, but Max was able to dodge every one of them. “Hold still so I can punch you!” the henchman roared again. Max, however, was starting to get annoyed. “How about this?!” he yelled. With that, Max delivered a fierce and strong punch to Ronald’s gut.
As Ronald kneeded over in pain, Max grabbed him by his shirt collar and the belt around his waist and to the astonishment of everyone in the café, lifted Ronald above his head. “Woah, woah, hey!” the man cried in shock. “What are you doing?!” “This!” With that, Max flung Ronald over his shoulder and threw him over to where Finnick was.
Before poor Finnick could react, Ronald crashed into him and landed right on top of him. Everyone was amazed, or in Slick’s case shocked, at this. “Impossible!” he shrieked. “How is that possible?!” He flinched in terror when he saw Max slowly turned towards him, his eyes now a savage gold.
“As for you,” Max growled, advancing towards him like a tiger stalking a wild boar. “you and I are going to have a few words.” “Wait, wait, wait!” Slick pleaded. “Okay, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean any harm or offense.” Max walked closer, causing Slick to panic more. “Come on, I’ll give you anything!” he added. “Money, a new tv, a condo, even your own island!” Max was now right in front of him.
“Hold on, let’s talk it over!” Slick was near the edge of a nervous breakdown. “No need for vio—Hurrk!!!” Max seized Slick by the throat and lifted him a few feet in the air. “Too bad, Slick.” he growled showing his fangs, much to Slick’s shock, before sending his fist forward. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as Max’s fist collided hard to his stomach.
“Arrrraaaagggghhhh!!!!!!” Poor Slick was sent flying out of the café, through the door and into a wall on the other side of the street with a loud. “CRASH!!!!” He slid down from the wall, spirals around his eyes and stars circling around his head. “Boss!” the three henchmen struggled to their feet and rushed outside.
Everyone hurried outside to see the three henchmen crowding around Slick, who was mumbling or slurring nonsense. “This isn’t over kid!” Ronald yelled. However, to everyone’s amazement, Max stepped forward.
“Why don’t you listen?!” he exclaimed, his golden eyes glowing. “You walk around, treating other people like trash or scum, while you guys are the real a**holes around here!” “Respect should be earned, not demanded!!!” “If you guys ever try to hurt my friends, family or any other innocent soul again, I WILL F*CKING MURDER YOU!!!!!!”
Slick and his three bodyguards reeled back in shock. They could feel the enormous amount of energy surrounding him, it seemed as if the entire animal kingdom was glaring at them. “Come on!” Matches said. “Let’s get out of here!” With that, Ronald lifted Slick in his arms and they hurried off.
When they left, everyone stared in wonder for a moment. Suddenly, they all erupted into a big cheer.
“That kid is amazing!”
“Yeah, did you see what he did to Slick?!”
“The question is who didn’t see it?!”
“Well, it’s high time someone taught that jerk a lesson!”
“Yeah!!” they all chorused.
“Max!” Jenny exclaimed, rushing over and giving him a tight hug, much to his embarrassment. “Dude, that was sick but cool!!” David added. Mikey and Jake ran towards him. “Nice going, Max!” Mikey exclaimed, grinning.
“Thanks, Mikey.” Max replied, smiling. “Are you okay?” “Ah, don’t worry about me.” Mikey joked. “It takes a lot more than a punch to hurt me.” Jake added. “Besides, I’m sure you taught that a**hole a lesson.”
Max looked at his friends, then he looked at all the customers cheering him. He even noticed Misoto in the crowd, with a big smile on his face. Max smiled, as a warm and pleasant, strange feeling washed over him, the feeling of being admired and appreciated for helping others.
