Chapter 27: Trouble with a Capital “H” ! : Part 3
It was chaos outside, seemed like a nightmare. Hundreds of animals were rampaging all across the zoo! Storks, parrots and hornbills were flying all over the place, elephants, bison and rhinos were trampling food vendors and benches, monkeys and chimps climbed all over and wrecked vending machines and vendenattas while big cats, bears and African wild dogs were attacking any unfortunate visitor in their way.
“What the hell is going on here?!” Mikey yelled. A nearby zookeeper rushed forward. “Is everyone alright?” he asked. Everyone murmured in agreement. “That’s good.” The zookeeper breathed.
“Sir, what’s going on?” Hamato asked. “I don’t know!” the zookeeper replied. “It seems like all the animals escaped from their enclosures!” Everyone gasped in horror. “How could such a thing happen?!” one of the customers yelled.
“We don’t know!” The zookeeper answered. “Needless to say, it’s happening all over the zoo!” “Me and my collogues are doing our best to round them up and getting the visitors to safety but we are having trouble dealing with them.”
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!” a scream was heard. Everyone turned and to their horror, they saw a young girl running from a herd of elephants charging towards her. “Hhhhhhrrrruuuummmmpppphhhhh!!!!!” Their long trunks waved in the air and their ears flapped like crazy, trumpeting loudly.
“Oh no!” one woman wailed. “That poor girl will be trampled!” “Someone save her!” another yelled. “Oh man, guys!” Jake exclaimed. “What do we do?!” “Hang on, where’s Max?!” David cried out.
“OMG!” one boy yelled. “Look!” Everyone looked in shock to see Max running toward the girl. “Max!!!” Hamato, Shen Li and Jenny shouted in horror. “Is that kid crazy?!” one man shouted in shock and frustration.
Max hurried towards the girl, rushing past or through troops of monkeys, herds of antelope and flocks of birds who took flight. “Help!” the poor girl cried. “Mommy! Daddy!! Help me!!” “Hang on!” Max called.
Just as the elephants were about to trample, Max immediately leapt forward and caught the girl, pushing her out of the way, right before the elephants trampled past. “Are…you…alright?” he asked. With teary eyes, the girl whimpered. “Yes, and thank you.”, hugging him tightly.
“Eliza!!!” voices cried out. A couple rushed forward, worry and relief mixed in their faces. “Mommy!!!” the girl cried. “Daddy!!!” She jumped out of Max’s arms and rushed toward them. Her parents embraced her tightly.
“Thank god, you’re alright!” Her mother cried, kissing her madly. “I’m okay, Mommy.” Eliza replied. “That boy saved my life!” “Oh, thank you!!” Eliza’s father added, walking over and shaking Max’s hand. “How can we ever repay you?”
“Max!” The latter turned to see the others rushing towards him. “Max, you saved that little girl’s life!” Shen Li exclaimed. Max nodded. “Yeah, but we’re not out of the woods left.” He explained, looking back at the chaos before them.
“What should we do?” Mikey asked. “Jii-chan, Obaa-chan, do you think you can help the zookeepers get them these visitors to safety?” Max asked. “Uh, sure, of course, son.” Hamato replied.
“Good.” Max said, before turning to his friends. “Guys, help to get anyone to safety.” “What about you?” Jenny asked. “Me?” Max asked, before turning towards the chaos. “I have a job to do.” With that, Max bounded away and swung through the trees, amazing everyone.
“Woah, did you see that?!”
“Yeah, that was incredible!!”
“Who is that kid?!”
Max’s friends and grandparents stared in wonder. “Will he be okay?” asked Shen Li worriedly. “Don’t worry, everyone.” Jenny assured, causing everyone to look at her. “Max is much stronger than we realise.” She added with a determined smile. “Nevertheless, we should follow him just in case he needs help.” Mikey added. The others nodded in agreement and raced off after him.
(5 hours later…)
It was a hectic 5 hours, but it was worth it. Max swung around throughout the entire zoo, helping any visitor in distress. He saved two boys from a zebra stampede, tamed a tiger to save a family and all the while, rounded up all the animals, birds and beasts alike back into their enclosures.
The visitors and zoo staff were amazed. One single boy was protecting innocent visitors, getting them to safety and herding all the zoo’s animals back to their enclosures like flocks of sheep.
Although Max had done a great job, he was worried. Never had he seen such a massive breakout of animals, not since the Ohio Incident. Normally, a zoo escape would usually involve one animal, but this was the entire zoo. To Max, it seemed perfectly clear that someone must have released all the animals, but why?
Finally, Max stopped at the Children’s Zoo. “Phew…” he breathed. “That was close, but that’s all off them.” Suddenly, his instincts kicked in, as he felt the strange feeling of being watched. “Who’s there?” he demanded.
“Well, you certainly have the skills, boy.” A metallic voice sounded. Max turned to see its source, a strange figure draped in a trench coat and wearing a fedora hat on his head. “Who are you?” he asked, warily.
“Who I am, is no concern to you,” The figure replied. “It seemed that our plan has complications.” “Plan?” Max demanded. “What are you talking about?” At that moment, four more figures, all dressed in trench coats and wearing fedoras appeared.
The figure continued to speak. “We had hoped that in the chaos, that you would be destroyed, but I guess not.” Max’s eyes widened in shock. “Wait a minute,” he exclaimed, in shock and fury. “you guys released the animals?!”
“Why, yes.” The figure spoke simply. “It was part of the plan.” “Max!!!!” The latter turned to see his friends rushing towards him. “Guys, you’re here!” he said. “Yeah, we figured you would need us as back-up.” Jake joked. “Hey, who are those guys?” David asked.
Max angrily turned to the strangers. “Those guys are the ones who freed all the animals!” he growled, much to his friends’ shock. “Hold on!” Jenny exclaimed. “They released all the animals?!” Max nodded.
“Hey, what’s the big idea?!” Mikey angrily yelled to the figures. “We do not take orders from the likes of you, Mikey.” The figure stated. The friends were stunned. “How do you know my name?” Mikey asked in shock.
“That does not concern you.” The figure replied. “To hell it does!” Jenny added. “What were you thinking, releasing all those animals?!” “We have no concern to these creatures.” The figure answered. “They were only useful in spreading confusion to the public.”
“Confusion?!” David angrily stepped forward. “Innocent people were nearly killed!!!” “It was lucky that Max was able to help them before things got worse!!!” “We care not what happens to the visitors, any deaths are just collateral damage.” The figure answered simply.
The teens were horrified. “Collateral damage?!” Jenny screamed. “How could you say such things?!” “Anyway, we have no business with you, Jenny or the others.” The figure explained. “We are here for Max.” This caused everyone to become tense and horrified.
“Max?” Jake asked. “What do you guys want from me?” Max asked in shock. “It’s simple, Max.” The figure said. “You are a danger to our Master.” Everyone was shocked.
“What are you talking about?!” Mikey exclaimed. The figure stepped forward. “You do not need to understand.” He said, pulling out a pistol and aimed it at Max, much to everyone’s horror. “You are a danger and must be eliminated.”
Max was stunned, his throat was dry. All he managed to say is. “Oh f*ckballs.”
