Chapter 29: Student Council Concert
It was Monday as usual, students were rushing to their classes in Weston High. For Max’s class, they were heading for Science class. Max, however, walked slowly. He was still thinking about what happened back at the Bronx Zoo.
(Flashback, last Friday…)
After dealing with the robots, Max and his friends hurried back to Hamato and Shen Li. They were at the entrance with the rest of the visitors along with some paramedics, tending to the visitors who had been injured. There were also some police officers questioning some visitors on what happened.
“Kids!” Hamato exclaimed, as he and Shen Li rushed towards them. “Are you kids alright?” he asked. “Yeah, we’re fine.” Mikey replied. “We were just helping Max to save some victims and rounding up the animals.” “Oh, that’s good.” Shen Li sighed. “We’re just glad you’re all alright.”
“We managed to get some of the visitors to safety,” Hamato explained. “and one of them manages to call the ambulance and the police.” “Well, we can see that.” David pointed out.
“So, how did you kids fare?” asked Shen Li. “Oh… don’t worry.” Jenny lied. “We helped Max to bring the animals back into their enclosures.” “Well, you seemed to have a rough time.” Hamato explained.
“You don’t know the half of it.” Jake muttered. “Well, I believe that’s enough excitement for us.” Hamato added. “Why don’t we all head home once this is all over?” “Yeah, I’m beat.” Mikey spoke up. “Me too.” David added.
As Hamato and Shen Li were brought aside by a police officer for questioning, Max turned to his friends. “Do you think we should tell them?” he asked. Jenny shook her head. “Even if they did, would they believe us?” she replied, frowning.
“Besides, even they found out about this,” Mikey added. “they will be put in danger if Hannibal finds out.” “Well, I suppose so.” Max spoke, but he still had doubts.
(Flashback end…)
“RRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!!” the bell snapped him out of his stupor. Max decided to take care of this after school. Besides, he had lessons right now.
(4 hours later…)
Throughout the rest of the school day, Max went through his lessons and classes as usual. Still all this time, he kept having this annoying feeling deep in his stomach about what happened and the words of that cruel robot.
“This is not over, Max.” the words echoed in his mind. What could he mean? Whatever the reason, Max knew that he would face against Hannibal someday. Right now, he was in Music class, the last class of the day.
“Now, students,” Susan Sapphire said. “music is more than just a hobby or a pastime.” “It is an art, a way of life.” She added. “Each of you possesses a musical side inside of you.” “Like our star students, Sophie and Dennis.” The two said students stood up, with Sophie winking causing the boys to swoon.
Jenny groaned and rolled her eyes. “Always the drama queen.” She muttered to herself.” “Each instrument can represent your personality and your emotions.” Susan Sapphire explained. “You may not be as talented as Sophie or Dennis, but you should always try your best.”
“So, today I have invited some special students from the other classes to demonstrate.” She said. “You can come in now.” She called. To everyone’s surprise, Rena walked in, along with Jade, Shun and Louis.
“That’s right, everyone!” Susan Sapphire exclaimed. “I have invited our very own student council to perform their talents for us!” Everyone cheered as the student council smiled and waved. “Now, now, everyone.” Susan Sapphire assured them, raising her hands for silence. “Let them show their stuff.”
“Now, ladies and gentlemen,” Susan Sapphire announced. “let’s give a big hand for Shun, who will be performing first.” Everyone applauded as Shun stepped forward with a smug look on his face.
“It would be an honor, Miss Susan.” Shun replied. With that, music started to play and Shun started to sing.

Everyone grooved to the beat, even Max was amazed and impressed. He had no idea that Shun could sing.
After the song was over, everyone applauded as Shun took a bow. “Well done, Shun!” Susan exclaimed. “That’s what I would expect from Saki’s son!” “Now, then, who’s next?” she asked.
“My turn!” Louis exclaimed, stepping forward. “I have the perfect song for this occasion!” Right on cue, music started to play and he sang.

Everyone loved that song as well, with some of the boys getting pumped up for action. “Oh yeah, Louis!!” one of the boys shouted. “Not bad.” Dennis said, smirking.
When he was finished, everyone applauded. “Nice job, Louis!” Susan Sapphire announced. “Right up next is Jade.” Everyone clapped as Jade walked forward. “This song is for my best friend, Rena.” She explained, as music played again.

Jade had a wonderful voice and everyone moved to the rhythm. Bean, Mikey, David and Jake grooved to the beat while Jenny and Max tapped their feet. Rena was the happiest as she clapped along.
Everyone clapped loud as the song was over. “Well, wasn’t that amazing, students?” Susan announced. “Finally, for the last but certainly not the least, our star pupil of our school, Rena!!!”
The applause and cheering was outstanding. Rena bashfully stepped forward and shyly waved. “Thank you, Miss Susan.” Rena politely said. “I would like to sing one of my favorite songs.” Soft music began to play and Rena began to sing.

Rena’s voice was soft and sweet, like honey in a beehive. All of the student’s breath was swept away, Rena’s voice was the most beautiful thing they had ever heard. Max was astounded by Rena’s talent. Jenny and Sophie were squealing like fangirls at Rena’s voice.
When Rena finished, her applause was the loudest of them all, with some boys whistling and cheering. “Let’s give a hand for our Rena, everyone!!!” Susan Sapphire exclaimed. Rena smiled and politely bowed.
“Let’s give one last round of applause for our student council for their outstanding performance!!!” she added. Everyone made a standing ovation.
“Oh man!!!!” Sophie squealed. “Rena is the best!!!” “I wish I could sing like that!!!” Jenny snorted. “Please, your voice sounds worse than a choking chicken.” A tick mark appeared on Sophie’s forehead.
“What was that, tomboy?!” she growled. “You heard me, blondie!” Jenny snarled back. Sparks seemed to fly out of their eyes as they glared at each other.
“Jen, calm down.” Mikey assured her. “Let’s not start a fight.” Jenny groaned and looked away. Sophie hummphed and did the same. “Max, what do you think of the performance?” asked Mikey.
“To be honest, it was amazing.” Max admitted. “Yeah,” David added. “Rena has many talents, that’s why everyone loves her.” They turned to see a crowd of students greeting Rena and Jade. Shun was close to the former, with his hand on her shoulder while Louis stood by him.
Although Max enjoyed the performance, he still felt the gnawing feeling in his stomach about what happened at the zoo. Secretly, he decided to train harder for his eventual face-off with Mc.Hannibal.
