Chapter 32: Learning to be a Protector: Part 2
Nothing much happened on Wednesday. Max and his friends had lessons as usual, but all that time, Max still had a terrible pit in his stomach that something bad would happen.
Finally when school was over, Max and his friends were walking back home together on the street as usual just as it was getting late. "Max, you okay?" Jake asked, concerned. "You look like you're down in the dumps" "I'm just worried about what happened back at the zoo." Max replied. "Max, it's okay." Jenny assured, smiling "We haven't had any trouble with Mc.Hannibal lately." "Yep, whatever that freaky robot said was probably bogus." Mikey agreed, grinning. "I don't see what could go wrong."
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" a high pitch screamed echoed, causing the friends to jump in shock. "You were saying, Mikey?" asked David. "It's coming from that alleyway!" exclaimed Jenny. The friends hurried of to the direction of the noise.
When they arrived, they were shocked to see Sophie backed against a wall, looking terrified. "Stay back!" she wailed. "I'm warning you!" When they saw what was attacking her, their eyes widened in horror.
Three strange and terrifying looking creatures were surrounding her. They were all pitch black and covered with bony-like armour. They had claws on their hands and feet with horns on their heads. Their faces, however, were nothing more but orange with hollowed-like with no features. "Holy s*it!!" Jake whispered. "What are those things?!"
"I don't know," Jenny replied. "but I don't want to find out!" "What about Sophie?" asked David. "We have to help her!" "We??' asked Jenny, with a sarcastic tone in her voice. "Come on, Jenny!" Mikey urged. "She needs our help!"
"Well, as much as I hate this," Jenny groaned. "you're right." "Well, Max's got that covered." Jake pointed out.
"Hey!!" Sophie and the creatures turned to see Max standing on the street. "Is that anyway to treat a lady?" Sophie's eyes widened in astonishment. "You're the jungle man!" she exclaimed.
"Kkkkrrrrssssshhhhhrrrraaaahhhhh!!!!!" the creatures made a horrible growling sound. "Hhhhhhhhhuuuuuunnnnnnngggggggrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" Max growled back. "KKKKKKKKKKKRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" the creatures screeched before charging towards him. "Bring it on!!" Max challenged, rushing towards them.
The monsters lashed out with their claws but Max narrowly dodged everyone of them. "How about this?!" Max added, unleashing a punch to one of the creature's face. "Rrrrruuuuggggghhhh!!!!" the creature roared in pain. The second creature lunged forward but Max leapt out of the way, causing it to crash into its comrade.
By now, the others were getting Sophie to safety. "What are you all doing here?" Sophie asked. "What about Max?!" "Don't worry!" Mikey replied. "Max will be fine!" "We've got to get you out of here!" "Uh, guys?" Jake spoke up. "We have a problem." The friends turned and to their horror, saw four more shadow creatures hissing and bearing their claws. "Oh s*it." David muttered.
Meanwhile, Max was taking care of the three shadow creatures. "I have just had about enough of you!". At these words, his totem started glowing and golden aura surrounded him. Once again, he dropped down on all fours and transformed into his full white tiger form.
"RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGUUUUUUUUAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" he roared, lunging at the first creature and tore it too pieces. "Kkkkrrrrssssshhhhhrrrraaaahhhhh!!!!!" the other two demons lunged at him, but Max just swatted his paw at them, sending them flying through the air.
"Gggggggrrrrrrrrrroooooaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" Tiger-Max roared, before pouncing on the second demon and savagely mauled it. Then he turned to the last demon, who was now trembling and backing away. "HHHHHHUUUUUUNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!" That was the last thing it heard before claws and fangs were upon him.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" Tiger-Max lifted his head and his ears perked up at the scream. Instantly, he bounded away to help his friends.
Meanwhile, the others were having trouble of their own. The four shadow demons were closing in on them. David and Jake tried fending them with some old pipes they found but to their shock, the pipes broke on impact. "What are we going to do, guys?!" Mikey asked. "They're invincible!" "Uh, hello?!" Sophie cried out. "What about me?!" "Can you think of others instead of yourself for once?!" Jenny screamed at her.
"GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" a loud roar echoed throughout the air. The shadow demons and the kids looked around. "What was that?" Sophie asked in worry.
"RRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" her answer came when a huge white tiger sprang out of nowhere and pinned one demon to the ground. "Tiger!!!" Sophie screamed in alarm. "What's a tiger doing here?!" Jenny smiled in amusement.
"RRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Tiger-Max roared again before tearing the demon apart. Then, he turned to the other three demons. The monsters leapt at him, but Tiger-Mac was ready "Gggggggrrrrrrrrroooooooaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" Tiger-Max roared before leaping in the air and seized a shadow demon with his teeth.
He shook it wildly, tearing it in half. Tiger-Max swiped another demon with his claws, ripping it to shreds. "Ooooooouuuuuuuuaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!" the demon cried out in pain, before Max pounced on it and ripped one of its arms off.
Tiger-Max turned to the last demon. By now, seeing that it's comrades were dead, the monster started to back away. "Hhhhhhhhuuuuuuunnnnnnnnggggggggrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" Tiger-Max growled before pouncing on the demon. With a loud "GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Tiger-Max bit down on its throat and ripped its head off.
"HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Tiger-Max let out a loud roar of victory. Everyone stared in wonder. Sophie gasped. "It saved our lives?" she whispered in astonishment. She held her breath when the tiger turned its head towards them.
At that moment, a golden aura surrounded the tiger and right before Sophie's astonished eyes, the tiger started to shrink. Its paws turned into hands and feet, the stripes, fur and tail disappeared and the fangs and snout grew shorter and disappeared as well. When the aura died down, it revealed Max.
When he stood up, he exposed his muscular chest and the fox totem around his neck. Sophie stared in amazement, with her eyes wide and her cheek blushing a lovely pink. Jenny grinned at her expression. "So, you okay, Sophie?" asked Mikey.
Max smiled nervously. "Well, it looks like I have some explaining to do."
