Chapter 33: Learning to be a Protector: Part 3
On Thursday, Max and the others were heading to their Math class. “So, you want to do some training after school?” asked Jake.
“Sure.” Max replied. “I want to get stronger if I am going to face those monsters again.” “Maaaaaxxxxxxxx~~~~~~” a sing-song voice echoed in the hallway. The friends turned to see Sophie happily skipping towards them. “Sophie?” Max asked in surprise.
“Max!” Sophie happily exclaimed. “Here’s something for you!” She held up a small jar of cookies with a pretty pink bow at the top to Max. “I baked these cookies myself for you!” she added, a blush on her face. “Wow, thanks Sophie.” Max said, surprised.
Sophie giggled and smiled at him. “It’s my way of thanking you for saving my life!” To everyone’s shock, she gave Max a soft kiss on his cheek. She winked at him and hurried away.
“Wow, that was really nice of Sophie, wasn’t it?” Max asked, turning to his friends. He was surprised to see his friends’ reactions. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Nothing.” Jenny replied with a pout on her face.
Mikey chuckled. “Well, she certainly got the hots for you now.” Max blushed in embarrassment, remembering yesterday.
(Flashback, last night…)
Max wasn’t sure how to explain but it was quite easy. Sophie was so amazed that she wanted to know everything. So, hanging out at Misoto’s Tea Emporium, Max and his friends spilled the beans, about his powers and his destiny of the new Wild Guardian.
“That…is…AMAZING!!!!!” Sophie squealed, scaring many of the customers. “You mean you can shapeshift into anything?!” Max chuckled nervously. “Yeah, that’s about it.” He replied.
“OMG, I can’t believe it!!!!” Sophie exclaimed. “You’re amazing, you saved my life!!” Everyone turned to them in confusion and annoyance. “Shhhhh!!!!!” Jenny hushed. “Not so loud, people will hear you.”
“Sorry,” Sophie replied. “It’s just I had no idea…” “Well, one thing’s for sure.” David replied. “We were just lucky we heard you scream.” “Yeah,” Jenny muttered. “Just our luck.”
“Ohh, this is so exciting!!” Sophie exclaimed. “No one in school will ever believe this!!” Max looked at her sternly. “You can’t tell anyone about this.” He explained. “If word gets out, you will be put in grave danger.” Sophie nodded. “I understand.”
“Besides, what were those things that attacked you?” Mikey asked. Sophie frowned. “I don’t know,” she replied. “They just appeared out of nowhere and attacked me.” “What were those things, anyway?” Jake asked. “Some sort of demon or what?”
“I’m not sure.” Jenny replied. “Do you think they are the demons that work for that Devourer?” Everyone looked at her. “Devourer?” Sophie asked. “Isn’t that the demon you talked about?”
“Yeah,” David replied. “he’s said to be the lord of chaos and darkness but was defeated by the original Wild Guardian.” “Well, how do you explain those monsters?” Mikey pointed out.
Everyone was silent at that. “Well, whatever they are,” Max thought. “I’m afraid Mc.Hannibal is not the only problem to deal with.”
(Flashback end…)
Max sighed as he placed the jar of cookies in his bag. Now, he had to worry about shadow demons and killer robots. Nevertheless, those were the perks of being the Wild Guardian.
Nevertheless, Mikey told him that he had something he wanted to show them after school. He hoped whatever it is, it would help them to fight against any threat.
(4pm, after gym, at the computer lab…)
Max hurried to the gym where all the others were waiting for him. “Max, you’re here!” Jenny exclaimed. “So, guys, what is it that Mikey wants us to see?” asked Max.
“Well, we’re about to find out.” David explains. At that moment, Mikey returned with a laptop. “Hey, guys!” he called out. “I’m glad you’re all here!” “So, Mikey,” asked Jake. “what did you want to show us?”
“Here guys.” Mikey replied, turning his laptop on and typed into a website. “Okay, what I’m about to show you, promise me you won’t freak out.” He explained. “Why, what for?” Jenny asked confused.
“Here, check this out.” Mikey told them, gesturing to his laptop. Everyone leaned close and were shocked to see footage of Mc.Hannibal’s Enterprises. “Whoa!!!” David exclaimed. “Where did you get this footage?!”
“Well,” Mikey explained. “my older brother worked as a security guard in Mc.Hannibal.” “He would often record footage of his work and save them in his computer.” “You didn’t tell us your brother worked for Hannibal.” Jenny pointed out.
“Yeah,” Mikey replied. “I don’t want to talk about it.” This confused the others but decided not to press further. “Also, I found something strange,” Mikey added. “take a look.”
Mikey clicked on a video in the folder. It showed a video of Mc.Hannibal and Slick entering the door with the “Authorized Personal Only” sign. “Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” asked Jake. “Well, check this out.” Mikey replied.
He fast-forwarded the video for a few minutes and played it to show Mc.Hannibal and Slick coming back out but to their surprise, they were accompanied by a large man with ghostly pale skin and to their horror, they saw five demons all black with claws and horns, exactly like the creatures that attacked Sophie.
“Woah!!!” David exclaimed. “Where did those guys come from?!” “I don’t know.” Mikey admitted. “I don’t have any footage of what’s happening inside.” “Okay.” Jake added. “So, Mc.Hannibal is somehow in cahoots with those demons.”
“It seems that way.” Max replied, grimly. “If those demons are working for Mc.Hannibal, things are about to be a whole lot tougher.” He sighed deeply. “I’m not sure if I can handle both Mc.Hannibal’s robots or those shadow minions again.”
“Hey, Max.” David assured, placing an arm around his neck. “We’re there for you, you don’t have to face them alone.” “David’s right, Max” Jenny added, smiling. “We’re behind you every step of the way.”
Max smiled. “Thanks guys.” “Anyway, guys” Mikey chimed in. “I decided that if we meet any of those monsters or robots again, we are going to have to go on the offensive.” Everyone turned to him in astonishment. “What do you mean?” asked Jake.
Mikey grinned at his friends. “That’s why I called all of you here.” He replied. “I have something for you guys that’s going to take your breath away.”
