Wild Guardian: Issue 1 Chapter 35

Chapter 35: Team Training
Friday was Max’s favorite day, but today, he was even more excited as usual. It was after school and Max was hurrying to meet his friends.
They decided to meet up for training to test their new weapons. Max could hardly wait for the training, that’s why he is in a hurry to get to their meeting place.
He found his friends waiting for him at his house. “Max!!” Mikey cried. “You’re here!” “Hey, guys.” Max greeted them. “Are I late?” he asked. “Nope!” Jenny replied, smiling. “You’re right on time!”
“Bark! Bark!!!!” Shiro ran forward and leapt at Max, making him fall on his bottom. “Hahahah!!!” Max laughed as Shiro licked his face. “I’m glad to see you too, Shiro!”
“So, are you ready for today’s training?” asked David, grinning. “Sure!” Max exclaimed excitedly. “Good!” Mikey replied. “We’ve got a lot in store today!”
“Yeah, wait till you see our training course we’ve set up!” Jake added. “You’re going to love it!” Max was surprised to hear that, what kind of training course did they build?
(5 mins later…)
“Woah!!!” Max exclaimed, hardly believing his eyes. He found himself in a sheltered and secluded area of the forest where he found training dummies made of wood, an small arena for sparring, bamboo poles for balancing and punching bags made of leather, stuffed with leaves.
“You made all of this?!” Max asked. David grinned. “Yep!!!” he exclaimed. “Our very own training center!!” “If we’re going to fight against any danger, then we have to get ready!” he added. “Come on, let’s start with sparring!!!”
“Alright!!!!” Max exclaimed, all fired up. David chuckled. “I want to start spar with Jenny first.” He told them. Jenny smirked. “Really?” she asked, almost tauntingly.
In a matter of time, Jenny and David were facing each other in the arena. “So, David,” Jenny asked, taking out her staff. “you ready to get your *ss kicked?” David smirked and punched his armored fists together. “Bring it on!!!” he challenged.
“Ready?” Mikey asked, bringing his hand up. David and Jenny adopted battle stances. “GO!!!” he exclaimed, bringing his hand to the ground. “HHHHHIIIIIIYYYYAAAHHHH!!!!” David yelled, charging forward. He started punching at her from all sides, only for him to miss as Jenny was able to dodge them all.
“Not bad.” Jenny commented. “But, can you do this?!” With that, she brandished her staff, striking at him. However, David was able to block with his gauntlets. “Yeah, guys!!!!” Jake cheered “Show them how it’s done!!!” Max clapped and grinned as well.
“I could do this all day!!!” he shouted back, charging forward again. “We’ll see about that!!” Jenny shot back, pressing the green button. All at once, her staff extended and like a high jumper, he catapulted herself up and over David’s head.
Once she was behind him, she swung her staff at David’s feet, making him fall down. “How about this?!” she taunted, before swinging it down. However, David was able to dodge it by rolling away and got back on his feet.
“It’s going to take a lot more than that to take me down!!” David exclaimed, his gauntlets glowing. “Bring it on!!!”
(20 mins later…)
“Woah!!!” Jake exclaimed. “It’s been over 20 minutes and they’re still going at it!!!” “Yeah!” Mikey added. “They’re both on fire!!!”
Sure enough, Jenny and David were still fighting. They were both tired, perspiring and breathing heavily but neither one was backing down. “If you… give up… now, I’ll spare you… the humilitation.” Jenny spoke up, between breaths. “No way… in hell!!!” David shouted defiantly.
“Alright then!!” Jenny screamed as she charged forward with all the energy and strength she could muster. “Bring it on!!!” David yelled back, charging forward as well.
Time seemed to stand still as they both struck at the same time, Jenny’s bo staff struck at David’s neck while David’s armored fist punched Jenny’s cheek. Silence hung in the air until finally, both of them collapsed.
“Guys!!” Max exclaimed, rushing forward with Mikey and Jake. The former went over to Jenny’s side “You okay, Jenny?” he asked. Jenny rubbed her cheek where she had been punched. “Yeah, I’m okay.” She replied.
“David, what about you?” Jake asked. David groaned and rubbed the side of his neck as he stood up. “Other than having a bruise on my neck, I’m good.” David answered.
“You were great out there, Jenny.” Mikey commented smiling as Max helped her back on her feet. “So were you, David.” The two of them smiled. “Well, looks like this fight’s a draw.” He added.
“Oh well.” Jenny sighed. “You were always an even match for me, David.” David chuckled. “Even now, I can never take you down.” “That doesn’t mean I won’t stop trying.” He added, smirking. Jenny smirked back as she shook his hand. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.” She replied.
“So, who’s next?” Mikey asked. “I want go!!!” Jake exclaimed, taking his spear. “So, Max,” he asked. “ready to take training to the next level?”
Max grinned. “Bring it on!!” he exclaimed, his blue eyes turning a feral gold once more.
