Chapter 36: Our First Team Battle!!!
Max hurried over to the training grounds. Throughout the past two days, the team had been training hard with their new weapons. Apart from a few minor setups, they were slowly improving.
Now, Max was heading over for today’s training this morning. He was hoping he could learn new fighting moves. With that notion, he quickened his pace.
(2 hours and 10 mins later…)
“Had enough, Max?!” asked Jenny as she swung her bo staff at him. Fortunately, Max caught it with his bare hands. “Never!!” he yelled, before leaping and kicking her on the guts.
“Urrgh!!” Jenny cried, causing Max to grab her staff and making her stagger back a few steps. She groaned and looked to see Max, spinning her bo staff expertly like a kung fu master before throwing it back to her.
Jenny smirked as she caught it. “Not bad, Max.” Jenny commented. “Well, shall we continue?” Max asked, smirking as well. Jenny grinned before they charged forward again.
“Wow.” David said, as he punched a training dummy. “Those two never fail to amaze me.” “Yeah, but let’s just concentrate with our own training.” Jake replied, practicing some hand-to-eye coordination with his spear with Mikey who was throwing darts at him and Jake was learning how to dodge or deflect them with his spear.
“Yeah, Jakey!!” Mikey exclaimed. “Show me what you got.” Jake smirked. “Oh yeah?” he added. He placed his spear in front of himself and spun it wildly. All the darts bounced off and went off in different directions.
“Nice job, Jake.” Mikey praised. “You handled your spear really well.” Jake smiled. “Well, I got to hand it to you.” He replied. “HHHHIIIIYYYAAAAAHHHHH!!!!” a loud voice boomed, followed by a loud “CRASH!!”
They looked at the source, David had punched so hard that the training dummy broke in half. “Whoops.” David said sheepishly. “Got a little carried away there.” He explained.
Meanwhile, Max and Jenny were still having their spar. Finally, Jenny tripped Max with her bo staff. Max fell to the ground and Jenny pinned him down, with her bo staff pressing against her neck. “Well, Max,” she smirked. “I think this fight is over.”
“That’s where you’re wrong.” Max smirked back. Before Jenny knew it, Max flipped her over with his feet and found herself in a double arm-lock, with Max sitting on her and his foot pressed against side of her face. “Now, it’s over.” He affirmed.
(3 hours later…)
“Huuuhh…” Jenny sighed. “You really had me there, Max.” The five friends were at Mc.Donald’s for lunch. “Well, you have also improved, Jenny.” Max replied, biting into his Quarter Pounder Burger.
“I also gotten stronger too!” added David. “Those gauntlets are awesome, just think of the damage I could do!” “I’ve also gotten good with my spear.” Jake added as well.
“Well, we should all thank Mikey for your new weapons.” Max pointed out. Mikey blushed in embarrassement. “Awww, it’s nothing, guys.” He replied, eating some fries. “A toast,” Jake called out, picking up his soda. “to our weapon’s expert, Mikey!”
“Cheers!” the friends lifted up their soda drinks and toasted. “Well, boys.” Jenny said, grinning. “next time, Mc.Hannibal started to show his face, we’re ready for him.”
“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!” a scream resounded in the air. The friends jumped in shock. “What was that?!” Mikey exclaimed. “I don’t know,” Jenny replied. “but we’re going to find out, come on!”
The friends immediately got out of their seats and hurried over to the source of the scream. At a small grocery store from a corner, they saw a group of cloaked strangers armed with pistols. One of them held a pistol at the grocer while four others surrounded a group of customers.
“Please.” The grocer pleaded. “What do you want from us?” “We want information.” One of the cloaked figures replied. “We want to find the Wild Guardian.” “We don’t know who that is.” The grocer explained. “He never comes here.”
“That is off no concern.” The stranger explained. “You and the hostages are merely bait.” In the corner, David whispered. “It’s those crazy robots back at the zoo.” “Guess they’re little mess back at the zoo wasn’t enough for them.” Jake snarled.
“Well, it’s time to show them what we’re made of.” Jenny affirmed. “You ready, guys?” “Whoa, whoa!!” Mikey exclaimed. “We don’t know if those weapons will work or not!” “We don’t have time!” Max argued. “Those people need help.”
“Here, Mikey” Max added, handing his hunting knife to him. Before Mikey could protest, Max and his team rushed out of their hiding places. “Hey!!” Max yelled, getting the robot’s attention. “Leave them alone!!!”
“We have located the one who the master wants to be eliminated.” The robot moved forward, raising his pistol. Max smirked. “Only this time, I have friends backing me up.” He stated.
With that, the others stepped forward brandishing their weapons. “We’re going to ask you to let those people go.” Jenny warned. “Or there’s going to be trouble.” David added.
The other robots stepped forward “You are coming with us, one way or the other.” the robot spoke again. “Fire!!” With that, the robots fired their pistols.
“Scatter, guys!!” Max cried out. The friends moved out of their way as the bullets flew. “Eat this!” Jake yelled, throwing his spear at one of the robots.
“THUNK!!” the spear impaled one of the robots, causing it to buzz and collapse to the ground. The grocer paled and his eyes widened when he saw sparks and metallic bits fall out of the ‘stranger’s’ back.
David was engaged in a fight with another android. Any punch the robot gave was countered by a punch from David. “Let’s see if you can handle this!” David exclaimed.
As he spoke, one of his gauntlets glowed brightly and he thrust it forward at the robot’s chest. The impact was so strong that the android’s torso was smashed in half, “Now that’s how it’s done!” he exclaimed.
Meanwhile, Jenny was fighting against another robot. With her staff, she was only able to fight with the android evenly. “How about this?!” she asked.
Pointing her staff at the android, she pressed the green button. Instantly, the staff grew longer and the android was pushed back. With all her might, she lifted the android in the air and like a batter batting a baseball bat, she smacked the robot and sent it flying through the distance.
Finally, Max faced off against their leader. “You’re only chance is to surrender to us.” The android said. “Sorry.” Max apologized sarcastically. “If there’s one thing you should know, I never give up so easily!!” As he spoke, a golden aura surrounded him and his fox totem glowed brightly.
The aura grew until it took the form of a large elephant, lifting it’s trunk and trumpeting loudly. The robot moved back a few steps. “Hhhhrrrruuuummmmpppphhhhhh!!!!!” Max bellowed loudly, before charging forward.
“Stay back,” the android warned. “or I’ll…” He didn’t finish his sentence as Max punched him on the chest, sending him flying until he hit a lampost. The android was barely back on his feet when Max charged forward and with all his might, punched the android’s head, smashing it to pieces, causing it to collapse.
“That’s how it’s done.” Max smirked. “Ahhhh!!!!” a scream sounded. To everyone’s horror, the friends saw one last robot grab hold one of the customers and aimed his pistol at her neck. “Anyone moves and she dies.” The android warned. “How about this?!” a voice exclaimed.
At that moment, the robot’s neck was pierced by a knife, thanks to Mikey who had snuck up behind him and stabbed Max’s hunting knife into the android’s exposed neck. The robot fizzled and released his hold on the woman. Smoke and sparks flew out his neck before it powered down and collapsed.
The grocer and the customers were amazed. “Well, that’s all of them.” Jake commented. They were interrupted by cheers and clapping. “That was incredible!!” one of the customers exclaimed. “Yeah, you guys saved us!!” added another
The grocer walked out, his face lit up with a smile. “Thank you, kids!” he exclaimed. “I don’t know how we can repay you!” Jenny smiled “You don’t have to.” She replied. “We’re just happy to help.”
Jake added. “We’re just glad no one was hurt.” “Well, looks like I don’t have to worry about a thing.” Mikey joked, handing Max back his hunting knife.
“Well, guys.” David exclaimed. “We just had and won our first team battle!” Max smiled “You’re right, David.” He agreed. “As long as we work together, we can overcome any challenge.” His friends smiled and nodded in agreement
The customers cheered again and applauded. For Max, this was the start of a new team. Together, they were ready to take on whatever comes their way.
