Chapter 38: Spirit of the Tiger: Part 2
After school, we find Team W.I.L.D at Boston Park. They figured they could use some fresh air. The park was filled with the sounds of birds singing and children laughing. All around, people were jogging, riding bikes, playing Frisbee, walking dogs and flying kites.
“Haaaaaaahhhhhhh…” Jake breathed. “This is the life.” “The fresh air, the warm sunshine, the sound of birds singing.” He added. “It’s a great day to be outside.” Jenny smiled. “I hear you, Jake.” She agreed.
“Well, I just hope no robot or shadow minion show themselves.” David muttered. Max nodded in agreement. “David’s right, we have to be careful.” He added. “We’ll never know where they will strike.”
“Chill, Max.” Mikey assured him. “We came here to relax.” “I doubt Hannibal would even dare try to send his robots after us in a public place.”
“Hey guys!!” a voice called out. The friends turned to see Bean hurrying towards them. “Cousin!!!” Mikey cried out happily. “Fancy meeting you here!!” “Thanks, cuz.” Bean replied. “I figured I could get in shape so I won’t fall behind in P.E.”
“I’m glad you feel that way.” Max said. “Are you alone?” “Oh no,” Bean explained. “Bruce and Harold are with me to help me train.” “Sophie and Dennis also decided to come.” He added. “Oh great.” Jenny groaned. “Her again.” “Really?” asked David.
“Yeah, they’re waiting for me at the fountain.” Bean answered. “You mind if we accompany you?” asked Max. “Oh sure!” Bean replied. “The more the merrier!!”
(5 mins later…)
“There they are!!!” Bean called out. When they arrived at the fountain, they found the others waiting at the fountain. Dennis was also there listening to some tunes in his mobile MP3 player, Sophie was putting some lipstick while Bruce and Harold were doing some warmups.
“I’m here, guys!!!” Bean exclaimed, the group hurrying over to them. “Hey, guys!” Dennis greeted. “Glad you all could make it.” “It’s about time, Bean.” Harold added. “We were waiting for you.”
“Sorry.” Bean apologized. “I just met up with my cousin and his friends.” “Max!” Sophie squealed. Before Max knew it, she rushed forward and hugged him tightly. “You’re here!” Jenny fumed and the rest of the team snickered.
“I’m so glad to see you!” she exclaimed joyfully, grabbing hold on Max’s head and hugging it close to her chest. Poor Max blushed and felt two soft orbs around his face. Jenny’s irritation rose and the other teammates snickered loudly. “Oooohhh…” Mikey joked. “Someone’s jealous.”
“Shut up, Mikey.” Jenny hissed. “I didn’t know you guys were coming.” Dennis said as Sophie released Max’s head. “Well,” Harold said. “I wasn’t even expecting the jungle man to join us.” “Hey, come on, Harold.” David scolded. “Max is our friend.”
“What?” Harold asked. “I’m just stating a fact.” “Harold,” Bruce spoke up. “That’s enough.” “We’re here to train Bean, not pick a fight.” He added. Harold just looked away. Max was a little offended by Harold’s remark. Even after all this time, Harold still looked down at him.
“We were just passing through when Bean found us.” Mikey explained. “Well,” Dennis added. “we’re glad all of you are here.” “You can join us if you want.” “No thanks,” Max said. “we’re just taking a walk.”
“It’s a shame, Max” Bruce spoke up. “You would make a good coach for Bean.” “Don’t be absurd.” Harold spoke up. “What could he teach, how to eat bugs?” Max frowned at that, so did everyone.
“Harold, enough!” Bruce exclaimed. “Max is more capable than you think.” Everyone was surprised, even Max. “I know I didn’t treat Max well at first but I was wrong.” “I’m sorry for being rude to you from before Max.” Bruce apologized.
“It’s okay, Bruce.” Max replied. “Come on, already!” Harold called “Let’s start training!” “Oh, sure thing, Harold!” Bean exclaimed. “See ya, guys!” He added as he went for his training.
“Catch ya later, cuz!” Mikey called out. The four went off to train. Sophie waved farewell to Max and blew a kiss at him, much to his surprise. “Awww…” David teased. “Sophie’s really got the hots for you…OW!”
Jenny angrily stomped on David’s foot. “Let’s just get back to our walk, guys” she said, a little apprehensive. Everyone chuckled at her jealously while Max shook his head.
As they continued with their walk, they didn’t notice someone watching them. A large man with ghostly pale skin and blood red eyes. He grinned evilly, showing fangs instead of teeth. “Well, well, I finally found you, Wild Guardian. Killing you will be a piece of cake.”
