Chapter 39: Spirit of the Tiger: Part 3
“Mmmmm, this is good stuff.” Jake said. After walking around the park, the friends decided to have some ice-cream. “This is the life.”
“Yeah,” Jenny added. “Nothing’s better than hanging out with friends, eating ice-cream.” She licked on her cone of blueberry. “So much has happened for the past weeks, hasn’t it?” “Yeah, and it’s thanks to Max.” Mikey added.
“Me?” asked Max. “Of course!” Mikey exclaimed. “With you around, things have gotten exciting for us.” “Aww, shucks guys.” Max replied in embarrassment, licking his chocolate ice-cream.
“Well, I’m just glad that there’s nothing that can ruin this day.” David commented. At that moment, Max looked up from eating his cone and seemed to listen to something. “Guys, I hear something.” He said.
“Hear what?” asked Jenny. Max gulped his ice-cream cone and stood up. “Guys, someone is calling for help.” He insisted, getting everyone’s attention. “Help?” asked David. “What do you mean?” Before everyone else could ask, Max jumped to his feet and took off.
“Hey, Max!” Mikey cried out. “Where’re you going?!” The others got to their feet and raced off after him.
(5 mins later…)
“Seriously, how fast is he?!” Mikey cried out. “Never mind that!” Jake added. “Let’s not lose him.” The four hurried off after Max, who was now running ahead of them.
When they finally caught up with him, they found Max at a secluded part of the park, looking at something from behind a tree. “Max, what is it?” Jenny asked. Max turned to them and pointed at something. When the friends looked, their eyes widened in shock at the sight.
In a small clearing, they found Bean, Sophie, Bruce, Dennis and Harold tied to a tree and surrounded by four shadow minions. Their leader, on the other hand, was a terrifying sight. He was bigger than the rest and had scabs all over his body. When he talked, his fangs glinted in the sunlight and when he walked.
“Let us go!” Sophie screamed. “Not cool, man!” Dennis added. “Not cool at all!” “Yeah, who do you think you are?!” Harold added, struggling to get free. “We don’t have to take your petty concerns, humans.” The demon said. “If I had my way, my brothers and I would have devoured you by now.”
“What do you want with us?!” Bean wailed. “Listen, you freaks!” Bruce snarled defiantly. “If you lay one claw on my friends, I’ll…” “Brave words, boy.” The demon smirked. “However, you five are more useful to us alive.”
“What do you want from us?” Dennis demanded. “Nothing, you four are merely bait.” The demon explained. “Bait?” Bruce asked. “Bait for what?” The demon turned to him, his green eyes glowing. “For the Wild Guardian, boy.”. The friends were confused while Sophie was horrified. “The what again?” Harold asked.
Meanwhile, Team W.I.L.D heard everything. “Oh man, he’s huge!” David whispered. “We have to save them.” Max explained. “How are we going to do that?” whispered Jenny. “Besides, that big one looks a lot stronger than them.”
“Don’t worry, guys.” Max whispered. “I have a plan.”
(3 mins later…)
“What are you talking about?” Bean asked. “Who’s the Wild Guardian?” “That is none of your concern, human child.” The demon replied. “How long are you going to keep us here, then?!” Bruce demanded. “You will remain here until the Wild Guardian comes to save you, then we’ll finish him.”
THUMP!! Something fell over in the distance. Everyone looked over at the source of the noise. The demon narrowed his eyes and turned to two shadow minions. “Find out what made that noise.” he ordered. “We can’t have any witnesses.”
The shadow minions bowed and hurried over to the direction. Once they arrived, they looked around, eager to find and destroy anyone nearby.
Little did they know, it was heading straight into a trap. Just before the demon could look around, “THUNK!!” a long spear impaled it on the head and it fell to the ground. The other demon heard the sound and turned to help.
Unfortunately for it, he felt a shadow loom over him and before he looked up, an armored fist surging with energy collided with its face, shattering it. “Yeah!” David yelled, standing up “That’s how we do it!”.
“Here, here!” Jake called out while jumping down from a tree. “We make a pretty good team.” He added, taking his spear out. “Let’s hope the others are ready.”
(Back with the others…)
“Where are those minions?!” the demon demanded impatiently. “Killing witnesses doesn’t take that long!” Sophie and the boys were worried, especially the former. If those monsters were after Max, they have to warn him.
The demon groaned “Forget it” he growled. “I’ll check it myself, you two, stay here!” With that, he went off, leaving the remaining minions to stand guard. Little did he knew, Mikey was hiding behind a nearby bush.
Bean noticed Mikey from his hiding place. Overjoyed, he quietly gestured to his cousin to the ropes that tied them together. Quietly, Mikey nodded but there were still two shadow minions guarding them.
“Hey, you!” a voice called out. The shadow minions turned to see Jenny nearby. “Jenny!” The friends cried out. “Why don’t you try pick on someone your own size?!” she taunted.
“KKKKRRRRAAAASSSSSHHHH!!!!” the two demons hissed, charging towards her. “Hhhhhrrraaaagggghhhhh!!!!” Jenny let out a war cry while brandishing her bo staff.
The demons lashed out at her with their sharp claws but Jenny dodged and blocked most of them. In retaliation, she swung her bo staff, striking at the demons left and right. Seeing his chance, Mikey hurried over to the tree and proceeded to untie the ropes.
“Woah!” Dennis exclaimed. “Look at Jenny go!!” “Yeah! She’s a lean, mean, kung-fu fighting machine!” Harold cheered. “Yeah, she’s not half bad.” Sophie commented.
“How about this?!” With that, Jenny pressing the green button on her staff, making it grow. Flipping the demons up into the air, she swung with all her might and knocked them into two trees, causing them to dissolve.
“Yeah!!!” Bruce cheered. “Way a go, Jenny!” “Hey, Jenny!” Mikey called. “I could use some help!” “Oh, sure.” Jenny rushed forward to help.
(Meanwhile…)
“Honestly… shadow minions…” the demon grumbled. “You have to tell them a hundred times before they’ll do something.” Suddenly, he stopped. He looked around and sniffed the air. “There was a fight here.” He muttered.
“You got that right!” a voice called out. The demon turned and was met with an armored fist to his face. The demon staggered back and glared at his attacker, or attackers. “Well, well…” he sneered. “So, you are the ones who killed my soldiers.”
“That’s right!” Jake exclaimed, as he and David brandished their weapons “But, we’re not alone.” “AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHHHHH!!!” A loud Tarzan yell sounded, causing the demon to turn around and widen his eyes in shock.
(Back with the others…)
“What took you so long?!” Sophie demanded as she and the others were freed. “Quit complaining!” Jenny retorted. “Just be grateful we saved your butt!”
“Never mind about that!” Bean exclaimed. “Where are the others?!” “Don’t worry, cuz.” Mikey explained. “The others will be here any second now.”
“CRASH!” A huge figure crashed into the clearing. “Woah!” Dennis exclaimed. The others turned to see Max, David and Jake rushing towards them. “Max, you’re here!” Sophie cried joyfully.
“Okay, may I ask what the heck is going on?!” demanded Harold. “We’ll explain later.” David replied. “Right now, we’ve got bigger problems.” “That’s right, boy.” Everyone turned to see the demon getting back on his feet.
“I finally found you, Max.” The demon growled. The others, excluding Team W.I.L.D were shocked at those words. “Max, does he know you?” asked Bruce. Max sighed. “I’m sorry for dragging you into this, guys.” Turning to the demon, he demanded “Now tell me, who are you?!”
The monster smirked, showing his fangs. “My name is Arthor, boy.” He replied. “My master has tasked me to make sure that you are no longer a threat to him.” “Master?” Max asked.
“Now, I’ll make sure I’ll kill you and your friends personally.” Arthor growled. “That’s where you’re wrong, Arthor.” Max replied. “I won’t let anyone hurt my friends.” With that, Team W.I.L.D smiled at that.
“Brave words, boy!” the demon taunted. “I’m going to enjoy this.” “Oh, really?!” Max asked, his fox totem glowing brightly and his blue eyes turning gold. “I don’t think so!”
All of a sudden, a golden aura surrounded him, much to the shock of the other boys. “What the…what’s happening to Max?!” asked Bruce. Team W.I.L.D smirked while Sophie stared in awe. The golden aura took the form of a fierce tiger, roaring and striking out with its claws.
“HHHHHUUUURRRRAAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!” Max roared out loud, ripping his shirt apart and his hair growing longer and wilder. He started to grow bigger and muscular, with white fur growing in his arms, legs and torso. His hands grew claws, his feet became paws, black stripes appeared all over his body, fangs grew in his mouth, and a long, striped tail grew from his behind. He had transformed into his white tiger hybrid form.
Bruce, Bean, Dennis and Harold stared at Max in shock. “Is that Max?” whispered Bean. “Holy s*it.” Dennis muttered. Bruce and Harold were the most shocked of them all while Sophie seemed to have hearts in her eyes, staring at Max.
“HHHHHUUUUUNNNNNNGGGGGRRRRROOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!!!!” Tiger-Max let out a terrifying roar that scared off the birds and made the ground tremble slightly. “You think that’s supposed to scare me?!” Arthor roared.
“As long as I’m with my friends, we can overcome any challenge!” Tiger-Max replied, with Jenny, David and Jake moving by his side. “Fine, boy!” Arthor growled. “Do your worst!”. With that, he charged forward.
“Let’s go, Team W.I.L.D!!” Tiger-Max roared. Team W.I.L.D sprang into action “How’s about this?!” Jenny taunted, twirling her bo-staff. Arthor roared, striking at her with his claws, but Jenny dodged and blocked them.
“Here’s something for you!” David roared, giving Arthor a swift punch to his gut. He unleashed a wide array of attacks with his gauntlets, each one generated more energy than the last. “I’ll destroy you for that, fool!” Arthor roared, throwing his fist to crush David.
“CLANG!” Jake managed to block his strike. “I don’t think so!” With that, he released all sorts of attacks with his spear, jabbing left and right at him, making Arthor roar in pain. “ENOUGH!” He yelled, swinging his arm and swatting Jake and David away, much to the others’ horror.
“No!” Tiger-Max yelled. “I’m growing tired of this game, Max!” Arthor threatened. “Either you surrender and be destroyed or…” he stopped when he saw golden aura emitting from him.
“You bastard…” Tiger-Max growled. “YOU MADE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE IN YOUR LIFE!!!!!” He roared savagely. All of a sudden, a bright light engulfed him and he dropped down on all fours, shocking everyone, even Arthor. “What the…!”
When the light disappeared, everyone gasped in shock. Tiger-Max had transformed into his full white tiger form. “GGGGGGRRRRROOOOOAAAARRRRR!!!!!” Tiger-Max roared. Before Arthor realized, Tiger-Max pounced on him and bit hard on his side. “Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!” Arthor screamed.
Tiger-Max lifted him in the air and thrashed him about. He flung Arthor aside and with a swipe of his paw, he sent him flying through the air and crashing into a tree. “RRRRRRAAAAHHHHHHGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!” Tiger-Max roared again.
Arthor struggled to his feet, his side bleeding. “This isn’t over, Max!” he roared. “You have not heard the last of me!” With that, he disappeared in a flash of shadows.
Tiger-Max shrunk and reverted back to his human form. “Max!” Jenny hurried over to him. “Are you alright?” she asked. “Yeah…” Max replied. “How are David and Jake?” “We’re alright.” Jake assured, an arm draped around Mikey’s shoulder while David staggered to his feet, rubbing his head.
“Max…” Team W.I.L.D turned to see the others staring at them in amazement. “You were amazing!!” Bean squealed. “Yeah!” Dennis added in excitement. “You guys saved us.”
“You see, guys!” Sophie exclaimed, rushing forward and hugged Max, much to Jenny’s annoyance. “Max is a hero!” “Well, can anyone explain what is going on?” Bruce asked.
Max and his team smiled at each other. “Well, it’s hard to explain…” he started to say.
