Chapter 40: Science Fair: Part 1
Thursday was quite a hectic day for many students. For Max, it was no different. A lot of stuff has happened, defeating Arthor and his minions and saving his schoolmates, not to mention revealing his secret to them. His mind travelled back to that day.
(Flashback, yesterday…)
After rescuing the others, Team W.I.L.D took them to Misoto’s Tea Emporium to rest and calm their nerves. Fortunately, they were excited than afraid.
It wasn’t hard to explain. The boys were astounded as Max told them everything, about his powers and the legend. “Woah…” Bruce whispered, his eyes wide in shock and awe.
“Dude!” Dennis exclaimed, grinning in excitement. “It was incredible!” “David was like pow, pow, pow and Jenny went all Donotello!” “Aww, it was nothing, guys!” David joked.
“Dennis’s right!” Bean squealed. “You guys are amazing, especially you Max!” “You sure went wild on that jacka**!” “Woah, Bean!” Mikey scolded. “Language!” Max went red in embarrassment.
“I knew you would rescue us, Max!” Sophie squealed, hugging Max close to her, making him blush madly. “You’re my number one hero!” “Leave him alone, will you?” Jenny asked, annoyed. “You’re making him uncomfortable.”
“Oh, what’s the matter?” Sophie asked tauntingly. “You jealous?” This made Jenny’s cheeks turn red, either in embarrassment or anger, I don’t know. “Shut up!” she yelled. “Just leave him alone!” she added, grabbing hold of Max’s right arm.
“Hey!” Sophie argued. “No fair! Get your own!” She grabbed hold of Max left arm. This resulted in a tug-of-war, with poor Max in the middle who was trying to talk them out of it, but to no avail and to the amusement of the others.
“Well, then, why didn’t you guys tell any of us this?” asked Harold, awestruck. “Come on, Harold.” Jake replied. “Would you’ve believed us if we told you?” There was a silence at that. “Anyway, Max, you saved our lives!” Dennis exclaimed. “I knew you were one of a kind, but now, you exceeded my beliefs!” Max blushed again.
“So, let me wrap my head around this.” Bruce asked. “Can you really shapeshift, Max?” Max nodded. “Yes, Bruce, it’s true.” “That’s the thing about Max!” Jenny added. “He brings out the wild side of things.”
Everyone laughed at that. Max was glad that that his friends were safe but now, that Arthor knows who he is, he had to be prepared for the incoming storm.
(Flashback end…)
Now, Max was heading for science class. Today, Mr Cooper had an announcement to make to the whole class.
(10 mins later…)
“A Science project?!” the whole class exclaimed. “Yes, students.” Mr Cooper replied. “The annual Science Fair is only two weeks away and you will be competing with other schools.”
“This year’s theme is for you to use technology that will benefit humanity and the environment.” Added Mr Cooper. “Each of you will pair up in teams of 4 and set up a project for the fair.” Everyone started to talk amongst themselves.
“You kids should come up with any good ideas that will begin your project no matter how small.” With that, he started to begin with his lesson. “So, Max?” Mikey asked. “You ready for this?”
“Well, Mikey,” Max replied. “if I can handle demons and killer androids, I can take a science project.” Mikey grinned. “That’s great! We’ll meet with the others at the library after school.”
(At the library…)
“So, what’s going to be our project?” asked David. “Well, it has to be based on technology.” Jenny pointed out. “And it has to benefit humanity.” “Well, technology has designed alternate sources of electricity, such as solar power and wind power.” Jake offered.
Max looked through some books they have collected to find out more of technology. “Maybe, we can find something that could give us ideas or inspiration.” He offered. “There’s a lot of ideas to choose from.” Jake explained. “We just need to find the right one.”
Jenny took a book about solar energy. “Maybe we could create a solar based vehicle or tool.” She offered. “Nah.” David replied. “There are already a ton of vehicles that are solar powered.” “Well, what are we going to use?” asked Jake.
“I think we should do something simple.” Mikey explained. “Something original.” “Maybe, you could use some help.” Everyone turned to see Bean, Sophie, Harold, Dennis and Bruce walking towards them. “Do you guys mind, if we can study with you?” Bean asked.
“Of course, cousin.” Mikey replied. “Good, I’ll sit here.” With that, Sophie pulled a seat right next to Max and clutched his arm with glee. “Don’t you think you’re a little close to him?” Jenny asked in annoyance.
“Oh, what’s wrong? You jealous~~~” Sophie replied, making Jenny’s face turn red in anger. “So, you guys want to help us?” David asked. “Sure.” Dennis added. “We’re kinda stumped on what our project is.”
“Sure, the more the merrier.” Jake offered. “Anyway,” Bruce added. “There’s something Harold wants to give you, Max.” Everyone was surprised. “For me?” Max asked. Bruce gestured over to Harold who was looking down in embarrassment.
Harold handed over a box to Max much to everyone’s surprise. “Here you go, Max” When Max opened the box, it was filled with cupcakes. “My mom baked them so I decided to give some of them to you.” “Besides,” he added, his cheeks red in embarrassment. “I want to thank you for saving us and to apologise for being an a**hole to you.”
Max smiled. “It’s alright, Harold.” He replied. “I already forgiven you.” Harold smiled softly. “Thanks, Max.” “So, you need help?” asked Bean. Mikey grinned. “Well, what are we waiting for?”
