Chapter 41 Science Fair Part 2: Enter Grendal, the Ogre!
In a deep dark lab, Arthor was speaking to the Devourer, Slick and Mc.Hannibal. “That accursed brat!!” he snarled. “That savage jungle boy will pay for this!!” Hannibal smirked “Well, I thought you were supposed to be the general of the shadow minions but you let a mere highschool boy beat you.”
“Silence, human!” Arthor roared. “I don’t need to be lectured by the likes of you!” “Say another word and I’ll rip your head off!!!” “Really?” taunted Mc.Hannibal. “If a teenage could beat you, I would hate to see how you fare against a man.”
“ENOUGH!!!” The Devourer roared. “If you fools are done arguing, we still have the matter of dealing with the Wild Guardian!!” Poor Slick screeched and hid behind an engine. “Of course, Master.” Arthor bowed. “Forgive me.”
“Well, my lord.” Mc.Hannibal explained. “Seems we have to come up with a new strategy.” “Indeed,” the Devourer replied. “Do you think you can send your robots after them?” Mc.Hannibal sighed. “I spend a lot of money making my Securi-tron bots and sending more of them would bleed my finances dry.”
The Devourer smirked. “Not to worry. I believe I know someone who can deal with that boy permanently.” With that, he breathed out a strange mist which seeped out into the lab. It grew larger until it became a portal.
Suddenly, to everyone’s shock, something emerged from the portal. A huge ogre, 10 feet tall appeared. He was muscular from head to toe, with short horns at the sides of his head. His mouth had fangs with two small tusks protruding out from his lower jaw. He only wore a loincloth around his waist and carried a huge spiked club with him.
Arthor grinned, Mc.Hannibal stared in wonder and Slick cowered from behind the engine. “Grendal, my brother.” Arthor greeted. The huge ogre bowed “Arthor, it’s good to see you again.”
“Meet Grendal.” The Devourer explained. “One of the generals in my army. He is a direct descendant of the original Grendal from the legend of Beowulf.” Grendal noticed Mc.Hannibal. “What is this, a two-legged pig?” Mc.Hannibal puffed his chest in anger.
“I’m afraid, this is our new ally.” Arthor explained. “Him? A mere human?” Grendal questioned. “Since when have the army of our Master, the Devourer, joined forces with humans?” “Enough, Grendal!” The Devourer cut in. “Mr Hannibal may be human but he has proven to be a loyal ally.”
Grendal sighed “Yes, Master.” He apologized, bowing. “Forgive me for my rudeness.” “If you really think this human will help us, then I will obey him.” “Excellent.” The Devourer replied. “With you, the Wild Guardian won’t stand a chance.”
(Friday morning, Weston High…)
“I’ve got it!” Mikey exclaimed. Team W.I.L.D were having lunch at the canteen, still discussing for their science project. “Maybe we can create a wind powered vaccum cleaner!!!” David groaned. “Dude, vaccum cleaners are indoor appliances. Where are we going to get wind indoors?”
“I know that.” Mikey grumbled. “We still haven’t come up with a good science project.” “Don’t worry, guys. We’ll think of something” Jake assured them. Max looked up from his delicious steak. “Maybe, we just need some inspiration.” He offered.
“Inspiration?” Max showed them a book entitled Smart Technological Methods. “I borrowed this book from the library the other day. This might help.” Jenny took a look at it and flipped through. To be honest, all of these ideas weren’t so bad. In fact, some of them could be perfect for their science project.
“Max, this is perfect.” Jenny muttered. “We can choose one of these as our Science project.” Max smiled. “So, when do we get started?” Max asked.
(Later that afternoon at Boston Park…)
The friends decided that Boston Park was the perfect place to study and plan. “So, what are we going to choose?” asked Mikey. “Well, we can try to make an automatic dish dispenser.” Offered David. “No, that would be stupid.” Jenny groaned.
“What about you, Max?” Max smiled and showed them one of his favourite ideas in the book. “How about we try this one?” He showed them a picture for soiless farming. “Woah, what is that?” asked Jake.
“It’s a picture of soiless farming. Farmers in Singapore have developed a way to grow vegetables without using soil.” “Really?” asked Mikey. In response, Max handed them the book for them to see. Needless to say, they were surprised by what it showed.
“I never knew you can grow food without any soil.” Jake pointed out. “Hey, maybe we could use that for our science project!” Mikey exclaimed. “Yeah. I mean, few have ever heard about soiless farming.” David agreed. “Also, we could give them a demonstration.” Jenny added.
“So, it’s settled, then?” Max asked. “Yep!” Jenny replied. “This will be our new science project!” “Great!” Mikey added. “Let’s get started. We need some supplies.”
“CCCCCRRRRAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHH!!!!!!” The friends jumped in shock. “What the heck!!!!” David yelled. A huge tree flew past them and crashed into another tree, causing it to uproot and collapse. “What the hell was that?!” Jake exclaimed.
“AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Before Team W.I.L.D knew what happened, crowds of peopled were seen screaming and running away in terror. “Wh-wh-what’s going on?!” Jenny asked.
“Kids!” The friends turned to see one man stopping near their table, a look of terror on his face. “You kids have to get out of here!!” “Why?! What’s going on?!” Max asked. “I don’t know!” The man replied. “Some kind of huge monster is rampaging in the park and attacking people!!” With that, the man took off, leaving Team W.I.L.D in shock.
“What monster?!” David asked. “Well, whatever it is, we’re going to find out.” Max replied determinedly, taking off to the direction where the attack was coming from. The others followed, brandishing their weapons.
In a moment, they arrived at the fountain square and they were horrified at what they saw. A huge ogre with horns, fangs and carrying a spike club had smashed the fountain and throwing huge rocks at all directions. “What in the name of heaven and earth is that?!” Jake yelled.
“Come out, Wild Guardian!!!!” the ogre roared. “Grendal’s here to crush you flat and eat your bones for breakfast!!!” Team W.I.L.D were shocked. “Okay, I’ll give you one guess.” Mikey muttered.
“Max, what do we do?” Jenny asked. Max looked at his friends. “First of all, we got to get all this people to safety.” He replied. “What about the ogre?” asked Jake. “I’ll distract him while you all get everyone to safety.”
“Woah, woah, woah!!” David protested. “There’s no way we’re let---” “We don’t have a choice!” Max exclaimed seriously. “If he continues rampaging, more innocent people will die!” The friends looked at him in worry.
“Okay, but don’t you die on us!” Jake exclaimed, before he and the other two boys ran off. Jenny stayed behind. “Max, please be safe!” With that, she hurried off to join them. Max turned to the ogre, his blue eyes glowing gold.
(In the fountain square…)
“Come out, Wild Guardian!” Grendal roared. “Come out and face me like a man!!” “I’m right here!!” The ogre turned to see a boy with black hair and blue eyes, with a golden fox totem necklace around his neck.
“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!” Grendal howled in laughter. “You are the new Wild Guardian?! A mere child!!!” “I am Max Yamato,” Max introduced. “and I won’t let you hurt anyone else!!!”
Grendal grinned wickedly, showing his sharp teeth and tusks. “You think you can beat me, boy?! I’m Grendal, general of the Devourer’s army!” Max’s golden eyes narrowed and his totem glowed.
Before Grendal’s eyes, he transformed into his white tiger hybrid form. “We’ll see about that!!!” Tiger-Max snarled. Grendal brandished his club. “Your funeral, boy! I’m going to enjoy tearing you limb from limb!!”
“Not if I rip you apart first!!!” Roaring loud battle cries, Tiger-Max and Grendal charged at each other.
