Chapter 42: A Troll on the Loose!!!
“So, is this big enough?” David asked, gesturing to Max’s backyard. “It’s perfect.” Mikey replied. “This place is big enough for the solution for the plants.” We find Max and his friends getting ready to build their science project.
After discussing it for some time, the friends decided to do the soilless farming Max mentioned. In this case, they decided to use hydroponics. By now, they had gathered all of the nessessary supplies to make it.
“Hey guys!!” Max called out, bringing out some metallic tubes. “Oji-chan said we can use these tubes for the hydroponics to put in the experiment.” “That’s perfect, Max.” Jake commented. “David and I are going to set up the experiment.”
“Okay!” David exclaimed, before pointing to Max’s back porch. “We can use your porch for the hydroponics.” “That’ll be fine.” Max replied. “As long as we don’t make a mess, we’ll be fine.”
“Say, where’s Jenny?” Jake asked. “Oh, she went off to buy some seedlings for the experiment.” Mikey replied. “She’ll be handling the planting.” Max looked up. “How long has she been gone?” he asked, worriedly.
“Don’t worry, Max.” David added. “She said she’ll be here in 25 minutes.” “I know,” Max asked. “but don’t you think she’s gone for more than an hour?” “Well, now that you mention it,” Mikey agreed. “it’s nearly 2pm. It doesn’t take long to buy strawberry seedlings.”
(With Jenny…)
“Urrgh…” Jenny groaned. “Maybe I should’ve gone to the gardener’s store instead of Marty’s Sunny Convenient Store.” “I feel like I’ve been queuing for hours.” She muttered. “Well, at least, I got the seedlings.” She added, looking at a tray with small shoots sprouting out that she was carrying.
“I hope the others are not too upset.” She muttered to herself as she took a shortcut across a nearby park. As she was walking through, she looked around. Children were playing in the playground, families were having picnics, couples were resting or walking together hand in hand and others were walking their dogs.
She smiled at the happy scene. Her thoughts travelled back to the amazing events that had transpired before. “I still can’t believe so much has happened.” She thought. “Well, thanks to Max, I had such excitement in my life.”
Her cheeks heated up at the thought of Max. “I can’t imagine what was it like being raised in the jungle.” She continued to dream about him, how he always saved them when they were in trouble. The sight of his bare muscular chest, his long wild hair, his golden eyes that screamed Alpha Power. Just thinking about that made her warm inside.
Immediately, she shook her head. “Woah, woah, what am I thinking?!” she thought. “I’m not ready for a relationship! Am I?” she questioned. “I mean, he’s kind, gentle, good with animals.”
She suddenly stopped. She felt as if someone was watching her. “Who’s there?” She suddenly heard a strange moaning sound. When she turned around, her eyes widened in shock.
Five citizens were approaching her, what was strange, was that their skin was pale and their eyes were all black with red pupils. “What the heck?” Jenny muttered out loud. “Well, well, look what we have here?”
Jenny gasped when she saw Grendal walking towards her. “One of the Wild Guardian’s friends. Such a shame, I was hoping to find him but you’ll have to do.” “You!” Jenny exclaimed. “What are you doing here?!”
“Oh, do you really think I could be defeated that easily?” Grendal questioned. “I can’t be defeated by a mere human.” “Still,” he gestured to the people around him. “they can be put to good use.” Jenny’s eyes widened in shock at that statement.
“What do you mean?!” she demanded. “What have you done to them?!” Grendal grinned. “This.” He held up his club, it glowed with an ominous red light. “My master has granted me a power beyond your pathetic mortal understanding.”
“With this power, I can infect any miserable human with dark magic, making them servants to my lord.” Jenny glared at the ogre for using such a lowly trick. “These humans are now under my control,” he added. “and now, you will join them.” “No way!” Jenny yelled, defiantly.
“You won’t have much of a choice!!!” Grendal pointed his club and black magic blasted out of it. Jenny barely managed to jump out of the way just in time before the magic blasted her. “Slaves, grab her!” Grendal demanded. “Don’t let her escape!!”
Jenny hurried off before the slaves could get a hold of her. “I’ve got to get back to the others!” she thought desperately. She ran as fast as she could, but she suddenly stopped. Ahead of her were three more citzens, all of them with pale skin and black eyes. Their arms were raised and they were moaning.
“Oh great.” Jenny muttered. “He must have infected them too.” “I’m going down so easily.” She took out a small pen-like object and pressed the top. Instantly, it turned into her bo-staff. “Got to thank Mikey for that new upgrade.” She thought.
She charged forward and pressed the green button. Her staff grew longer and like an athlete, she catapulted herself over the zombie-like people and hurried on her way. “AFTER HER, YOU FOOLS!!!!” she heard Grendal roar. From the sound of his voice, she didn’t want to be stay around.
No matter where Jenny ran, more zombified people seem to appear in all directions. “Damn it!!” she thought. “More of them just keep on coming!!!” She looked around but to her horror, found herself surrounded by a crowd of zombified citizens.
“There is no escape, girl.” Grendal spoke up, stepping into the center of the circle. “Just surrender if you know what’s good for you.” “Never!” Jenny exclaimed, defiantly. “If you think I’m joining your zombie army, you can forget it!”
“Very well, girl.” Grendal replied. “Then, you shall die.” “Dispose of her.” The zombified citizens advanced forward. Jenny looked around, there seemed to be no escape. Suddenly, she had an idea. “Oh, really?” She pressed a small grey button on her bow staff, and thick grey smoke billowed out of her staff.
“What is this?!” Grendal roared as the smoke spread to his zombies, making hard for them to see. “Where are you, girl?!” Jenny smirked. “I’m outta here!!” With that, she pressed the green button again and catapulted herself over the crowd and ran as fast as she could from that place.
As the smoke cleared, Grendal looked around. She was gone. He growled sliently. “I’ll see you again, human girl and I’ll make sure the Wild Guardian reunites you in hell.”
(5 mins later…)
“Gee, what’s taking Jenny so long?” Max asked. “I think we should go and find her.” “Chillax, bro.” Mikey assured, pouring the nutrient solution into their tank. They had setup a tank-like container made up of the pipes and cut some holes on the pipes to plant the seedlings.
“I’m sure Jenny just had a little delay.” Mikey added. “Besides, she is not the type who would never miss out on a project like this.” “RING, RING!!!!” Something rang out. “Oh, it’s my phone.” David explained, as he took out his Samsung while placing it close to his ear and pressed Call.
“Hello.” He called. “Oh, Jenny!! It’s you.” “Where were you?” He asked. Suddenly, David expression turned to surprise and slight shock as loud noises could be heard in the background. “Woah, woah, Jenny! Slow down!”
Everyone looked on in surprise. After a few minutes of talking, David nodded his head and said “Don’t worry. We’re on our way.” When he put his phone away, the others could see the distress on his face. “We have to go!” he exclaimed. “Jenny needs us!”
“What, what are you talking about?!” Jake asked. “Yeah, what’s going on?!” Mikey added. “Jenny’s being attacked by Grendal!” “WHAT?!” the boys exclaimed. “She managed to escape and is heading downstreet which is near here.”
“Well, what are we waiting for?!” Max demanded, “We have to find her before that ogre does!!” Before anyone could say anything else, Max turned into his full eagle form and flew off.
“Max!” Mikey cried out. “Wait up!!!” He and the others followed behind as Eagle-Max flew off.
