Chapter 50: The Power of Wild Spirit!
“Phew, we’re alright!” Jake breathed. “I think we lost them.” Team W.I.L.D had finally arrived on the edge of downtown. “Well, for now.” Jenny added. “We have to think off a plan to stop Grendal before he infects all of us.”
“Look!” Mikey pointed out. “There’s the subway entrance.” Right across the street, was the entrance to the underground subway. “Good.” David added. “We can form a plan there.” Max looked around. “We should hurry.” He said. “I can sense more of them are coming.”
“Come on!” Jenny exclaimed. “If we hurry, we’ll be able to-aaaaahhhh!!!” She was interrupted when something huge grabbed her. “Jenny!” Max exclaimed. The team looked in horror when a teenaged man appeared out of nowhere and seized Jenny by her arm and wrist.
Worse, like the other citizens, he had pale ghostly skin and his black eyes were gleaming in the sunlight. “Uuuuuurrraaaaggggghhhhh!!!!!” The man sounded like he was moaning and bellowing at the same time. “Jenny!” Mikey yelled. “Hey, let her go!” “Guys, help!!” Jenny screamed in terror.
“UUUUUUURRRRRRAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” The zombie man bellowed louder, before moving his face towards the side of Jenny’s neck. “Hey, freak!” David exclaimed, powering up his gauntlets. “Let her go, or I’ll give you a knuckle sandwich!!”
“Be careful!” Jake added, brandishing his spear. “You hit Jenny!” “Well, what can we do?!” David asked. “Help!” Jenny screamed, the zombie’s hold tightening around her arm. “LEAVE HER ALONE!” Mikey roared, before throwing something at the zombie.
“BOOM!” Smoke exploded in the zombie’s face, causing it to release Jenny who staggered forward and gave a round house kick to his face. “Sorry, but this girl isn’t anyone’s victim today!”
The zombie staggered back. “Hhhhhrrrraaaagggghhhhh!!!!!” he roared. Suddenly, two other teenaged zombies appeared, another man and a woman. “Great!” Mikey groaned. “Not more of them!”
“Well,” Jenny asked, activating her bo staff. “what now?” “We can’t wait for long.” David added. “We have to keep moving before more arrive.” “Hhhuuuurrrrraaaaauuuuhhhhh!!” the zombies advanced closer. “Get ready, guys.” Jake said.
All this time, Max’s eyes were shadowed. The thought of all those innocent people under that wicked monster’s control was just too much for him. “Enough…” he quietly said, trembling in rage. “I have had enough.”
The team looked at Max in surprise. “Max, what is it?” Mikey asked. “I have just about enough of this!!” Max exclaimed. With that, his fox totem glowed brightly, the ground at his feet started to tremble and crack.
“Uh, Max?” Jenny asked nervously, she and the others stepped back. “Grendal has GONE TOO FFFFAAAARRRR!!!!!!” Max roared, a bright golden light surrounded him and raw energy seemed to pour out of him.
“Uh, guys?” David asked. “What’s happening to Max?” “I WON’T TOLERATE ANYONE WHO TAKES THE LIVES OF OTHERS FOR GRANTED!!!!!!!!” Max roared loudly.
At that second, pure golden wild aura exploded out of him. “WOAH!!” Jake exclaimed. “What’s happening?!” “I don’t know!” David added. “But I think the beast has been unleashed!”
“RRRRRRRAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!” Max let out a loud almost, animalistic roar at the zombies. The zombies were completely overwhelmed by the immense power Max had while Team W.I.L.D covered their ears at the sound.
“Uuuuuurrrrraaaaaaggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!” The zombies screamed and clutched their heads. “Wh-what’s happening?!” Mikey exclaimed. “Guys, look!” Jenny added. The others watched in amazement. The zombies were kneeling down and their skin color start to glow.
Suddenly, a strange red mist emerged from the zombies’ mouths and to their shock, it flew into the air and took the form of skeletal creature. They let out a loud shriek and flew off into the sky. With that, the three citizens collapsed to the ground, their skin turned back into their regular peach color.
Max stopped roaring and collapsed to his knees, breathing heavily. “Max!” The others rushed forward to Max’s side. “I’m fine.” He replied. “Just out …of breath…” “What about them?” The friends suddenly heard groaning and turned to the teenagers.
To their surprise, they were sitting up and rubbing their heads. “Urrgh, what happened?” The larger teen asked, rubbing the back of his head. All of them had their regular peach skin color and their eyes had returned back to normal.
“Hey, what’s going on?” the other teen asked. “Are the three of you alright?” Mikey asked, as he helped them to their feet. “Yeah,” the girl replied. “What happened?” “You don’t remember anything?” David asked while Max got back to his feet.
“No.” One of the teens replied. “We’re all just walking by the street, chatting and minding our own business when we were attacked by zombies!” “Yeah!” added the other teen. “We were completely surrounded and then this huge man appeared out of nowhere.”
The girl continued. “He wasn’t human in appearance.” She explained. “He looked like a troll or an ogre of some sort.” “We thought he was trying an early Halloween costume,” the larger teen explained. “when he pointed a glowing club and blasted us with a red light, that’s all we can remember.”
“It’s best you guys find someplace safe.” David explained. “We’ll handle things from here.” “Sure.” The larger teen replied. “C’mon guys. Let’s go.” The girl placed one of the boy’s arm on her shoulders and together, the three teens hurried off to safety.
“Max,” Jenny asked, “are you alright?” “A little tired.” Max replied. “But I’m alright.” “Yeah, what was that about?” Jake asked, confused. “How were you able to free them from Grendal’s control?”
“Actually, I just roared.” Max replied. “I had no idea it would do that.” “Well, at least we have a way to free them.” Mikey explained. “But how are we going to fight Grendal with all his zombie slaves?”
Max looked around and suddenly saw the subway entrance on the other side of the street. He smiled, “Guys, I have an idea.”
