Chapter 52: Science Fair Showdown: Part 1
For the rest of the weeks, Team W.I.L.D were hard at work with their project and so far, it was faring well. They had to build a perfect garden bed filled with liquid solution for the plants to grow and placed each strawberry seedling carefully in holes.
There were some problems along the way. Once, Mikey forgot to clean the pump and the tank was filled with dirty water and they had clean the whole tank. Another, Jake accidentally overwatered the seedlings and many of them started to wilt.
Despite whatever setbacks they had, they were able to complete their project in time. At the end of next week, the project was finished.
“It’s done!” David exclaimed. “We did it!” “Was there ever a doubt?” Mikey asked jokingly. The whole team admired their finished project. “Well, after everything that’s happened,” Jenny added. “I say we earned it.”
“Do you think it works?” asked Max. “Of course, it will!!!” Jake replied. “It’s your idea!” “Besides,” he added. “we just defeated an ogre the size of 3 men, I’m sure we could handle a science project.”
“Well, let’s just hope we’ll win first place in the science fair tomorrow.” Mikey spoke out. “Don’t worry about that.” Max replied. “As long as we work together, we can handle anything, either working or fighting any demons.”
Everyone smiled at that. “You know, Max,” Jenny pointed out. “it’s times like this that you became our leader.” “Me?” asked Max, surprised. “Leader? I couldn’t…” “Don’t be like that, Max.” Mikey replied, grinning. “You brought us together, stood by our side and always gave us encouragement.”
“Mikey’s right, Max.” Jake added. “We couldn’t have formed this team in the first place without you.” “Guys, thanks.” Max replied, grateful for his friends’ support. Turning to their little hydro-phonics garden, he added “So, you guys ready for the science fair?”
“Hell-Yeah!” David exclaimed. “We might not get a blue ribbon, but at least we put together our own little garden.” The other chuckled at that, but little did they know, that something terrible will happen on that day.
(Deep in Hannibal’s basement…)
“What do you mean, you failed?!” Arthor yelled at Grendal who lowered his head. “Forgive me, brother.” Grendal replied, bowing on one knee. “The Wild Guardian and his friends ambushed me underground.”
“Damn that boy!” Arthor cursed. “It’s bad enough the Wild Guardian is still alive but to know that my brother has been beaten by mere children!!!” He angrily turned to Grendal. “How can you call yourself one of the greatest warriors of the forces of Chaos?!”
“ENOUGH!!” A voice called out. Arthor and Grendal immediately became silent as the large image of the Devourer’s face emerged from the tank. “Looks like the Wild Guardian has proven more of a nuisance than I thought.”
“Well, what should we do, Master?” asked Arthor. “It seems we have to rethink our strategy.” The Devourer replied. “There must be a way to destroy him.” “Maybe this will help.” A voice called out.
The demons turned to see Mc.Hannibal coming out from the shadows. Right behind him was Slick, who was hiding in fear as usual. “I believe this could provide the perfect opportunity to kill the Wild Guardian.”
With that, he showed them a poster. It read “BOSTON HIGH SCIENCE FAIR 2018!!!” “This could be a perfect opportunity to strike.” “What is this science fair?” asked Arthor. “Oh, a simple competition for children to show off their inventions.” Mc.Hannibal replied.
The Devourer stared at the poster. “Do you say this fair attracts lots of people?” he asked. “Of course.” Mc.Hannibal replied. “It also just so happens that the Wild Guardian attends this school.”
“What’s that got to do with our plan?” Grendal asked. Mc.Hannibal smiled “This is the plan.” He replied simply, much to the demons’ confusion. “Today, every student will present their science projects on display and the Wild Guardian will be there.”
He added, “This will be a perfect chance to destroy the Wild Guardian and his friends.” “In addition, the fair will be filled with people; adults, teachers and children.” He explained. “This way, you can have all the souls and sacrifices you want.”
“All the sacrifices we can have?” Arthor asked, intrigued. “More sacrifices…” Grendal added, grinning. “I like the sound of that.” “Indeed.” The Devourer agreed. “When is this fair taking place?”
“Oh, tomorrow.” Mc.Hannibal replied. “Does that sound like the perfect chance to strike, my lord?” The Devourer grinned. “Yes, yes…” he muttered. “It’s been a long time since I savoured human souls.”
“Arthor, Grendal!!!” The two demons stood straight on command. “Both of you take ten of our strongest shadow minions and attack this Boston High.” “Yes, Master!” the two demons replied while bowing.
“If you don’t mind, my lord,” Mc.Hannibal added. “I’ll send my Securi-trons to attack as well.” “We don’t need machines to do our work.” Grendal replied, cracking his huge knuckles. “We can handle this on our own.”
“Oh really?” Mc.Hannibal smirked. “This coming from two demons who failed to kill a buch of children.” “What was that?!” Grendal demanded, grabbing hold of Mc.Hannibal and lifting him in the air. “You dare mock me and my brother!”
“Arrgh!!” Mc.Hannibal screamed. “Unhand me, you brute!!” “Or what, human?!” Grendal demanded. “You’ll sick your metal dogs on me?!” “Enough, Grendal!” Arthor commanded. “As much as I despise Hannibal, his machines have been a great service to us.” Grendal growled and dropped him.
“Anyway,” Mc.Hannibal explained, getting on his feet and dusting himself. “my Securi-trons will be placed at every entrance and exit of the school, so you and your demons will have a chance to destroy the Wild Guardian.”
“Excellent.” The Devourer replied. “This way, we can have the Wild Guardian, his friends and every miserable human all in one place.” “Very well!” he exclaimed. “We shall follow your plan, Mr Hannibal.”
“If it is the Master’s will, then so be it.” Arthor added. “Even if it means listening to a human’s orders.” “I’ll follow too.” Grendal grumbled. “But only for the Master, not for a human.”
“Fair enough.” Mc.Hannibal replied. “Our only concern is one thing: The destruction of the Wild Guardian and total control of this whole world.” The demons grinned wickedly, tomorrow would be a science fair anyone will never forget.
