Chapter 53: Science Fair Showdown: Part 2
Monday was even busier than usual in Boston High, the entire gym was packed with students from every class, displaying their science projects. Max could hardly believe how many students had participated.
"I never realised we would be competing with so many classes." Max said nervously. "Do you think it's good enough?" He and his team had set up their hydronic garden stand.
"Don't worry, Max." Mikey assured them as he and David placed signs for their project on their stand. "Even if we don't win first place, we tried our best and that's all that matters."
"Besides, Max," Jake added. "this was your idea. At least, have confidence in your work." "Gee, thanks." Max replied, the nervousness subsiding gently. "Anyway, no one in school has heard about hydrophonics before so this will be new to them."
"Well, well, what do we have here?" A condescending voice sounded. "The Jungle Bunch." Everyone turned to see Shun walking towards them with Louis at his side. "Great, what do you want, Shun?" David asked in annoyance.
"This is your project?" Shun asked, sneering. "A stupid garden?" "Hey, Shun!" Jenny exclaimed. "We worked hard on this project and we don't need your opinion." "Oh really, lady?" Louis asked. "You think this will be enough to win first place?"
"Say what you want." David replied. "All we know is that we did our best." "Besides," he added. "we've come so far to quit now." Shun snickered "Don't worry, you'll be ready to quit once you see our science project."
"Shun!" Everyone turned to see Rena and Jade walking towards them. "Rena, you're here." Shun smiled. "Shun, our project is almost ready but we need you to be there for our presentation." Rena explained
"Don't worry, Rena." Shun gently explained. "Me and Louis were just looking at the other exhibits." "Yeah right." Muttered Mikey. "You can look at them later, Shun." Jade replied. "Lady Rena and I need you." "Wow!" Rena exclaimed. "What a lovely garden."
"You like it?" Jenny asked, smiling. "We made it ourselves." "It's a hydrophonics garden." David added. "Soiless farming in short form." "Soiless farming?" Jade asked. "I never heard of it."
"Don't be so interested, Rena." Shun said nonchalautly. "That garden is nothing compared to our project." "Besides, who would want to look at a miserable garden?" He added, much to everyone's ire.
"Shun, be nice." Rena told him. "I think it's lovely, especially the seedlings." Mikey smiled "Thanks, it was all Max's idea." He replied. "Really?" Rena asked, turning to Max, who bowed his head in embarrassment.
"Yes, it's true." Rena smiled. "Well, you and your friends did an amazing job." Max smiled back. "Thanks," he replied. "We're growing strawberries." "Strawberries?!" Rena squealed. "They're my favourite!"
"Your favourite?" Jake asked in surprise. "We didn't know that." "Yep!" Rena replied, before turning and smiling at Max. "Thanks, Max!!" "It's alright." Max smiled back. "I just did my part."
"Lady Rena!" Jade spoke up. "We all have to go now for our project." "Oh, sorry!" Rena replied. "We must be going now, everyone. All the best!" "Rena, you and Jade go on first." Louis gently explained. "Shun and I will catch up."
Rena and Jade hurried off. Shun then angrily turned to Max. "Don't even think about it, savage!" He growled, pointing a threatening finger at him. "What are you talking about?" Max asked, confused and a little offended.
"Don't play dumb with me!!" Shun snarled. "You're trying to get Rena to like you!" "Hey, cool it man!" Mikey stepped forward. "Leave Max alone!" "I suggest you keep out of this if you know what's good for you." Louis replied, standing in front of him.
"Listen, Max," Shun added. "Rena is my girl and mine alone." "So, you be better stay away from her or else." "Look, I have no feelings for Rena," Max replied. "so calm down."
Shun grunted and then turned to Louis. "Come on, Louis!" He called. "We're wasting time." Louis sneered and walked off with Shun. "I'll be watching you, savage." Shun finished before he and Louis walked away.
"Damn..." David muttered. "What a jerk." "Are you alright, Max?" Jenny asked as she went over to Max's side. "Did Shun hurt you?" Max smiled. "It's alright, Jenny." He replied.
"Ah, forget about that jerk." Jake advised. "He may talk big but he's an idiot when it comes to friendship." "Anyway, we should get back to our project." David added. The friends agreed and returned back to their stand.
Max, however, stared back at the direction where Shun and Louis left. He sighed sadly. Will Shun always see him as nothing but a savage wild boy? He shook his head, it didn't matter to him. After all, he already had true friends with him and they meant more to him than anything in the world.
