Chapter 57: Chimera!!!!
“SCATTER!!!” David screamed, as the team split up just as the monster lunged at them. The heads roared and snapped their teeth at the kids. “Okay, options!!” Mikey added. “Somebody got a plan?!”
“A plan to stop that?!!” Jake exclaimed, narrowly ducking down against a swiping claw. “How do we stop a giant mechanical three-headed monster like that?!” “Jake, look out!!!” Jenny screamed. Jake looked and his eyes widened to see the monster’s scorpion tail raised and aimed directly at him.
Jake lifted his arms in an effort to shield himself just as the tail shot straight at him. Fortunately, Max dove in and pushed him to safety, mere seconds before the stinger plunged down and struck the floor, leaving a hole embedded on the floor.
The two tumbled to the side, shaken but alive. “Thanks, Max!” Mikey breathed. “I owe you one!” “Thank me later!” Max replied. “Right now, we got bigger problems.” GGGRRRAAAWWWWRRRRR!!!!! The chimera roared and lunged at them. “Woah!!!” the two boys yelled before Max grabbed Mikey and leapt away in the nick of time.
“We can’t let it destroy the whole school!” Jenny exclaimed. “We have to get it out in the open!!” She squealed as the monster swiped a paw at her, ducking down just in time. “Guys!” David called out from the exit. “This way!”
“You guys go on ahead!” Max told them, much to their horror. “WHAT?!” Jenny screamed. “What about you?!” “I’ll distract that thing and keep it busy.” Max exclaimed. “This will give you time to escape!” “Are you crazy?!” Jake exclaimed. “Leave you here with that thing?!”
“We don’t have time for an argument!!” Max yelled as he shifted into his white weretiger form. “I have a plan!!” he roared. “Now go!!!” Clenching their fists, the others had no choice but to listen to him.
“Alright!!” David exclaimed. “But you better be behind us, you hear?!” With that, the others raced through the exit. Tiger-Max turned to face the cyborg creature, who was now glaring at him with neon green eyes.
“Okay, freak of nature.” Tiger-Max bared his claws and fangs. “You mess with the tiger, you get the claws.” The mechanical monster roared with it three heads and charged.

The rest of the team ran through the hallways. They could hear growls and roars echoing throughout the school. “You think Max will be alright?” Jake asked worriedly. “Don’t worry, guys.” Jenny replied firmly. “We’ve seen Max handle a lot of wild animals so he’ll be fine.”
“Yeah,” Mikey added. “but those were real animals.” “That one is a giant three-headed cybernetic freak of nature!!” He yelled out the last part. “Over there!!” David exclaimed, pointing to the exit.
The friends rushed outside. “We’re out!” David exclaimed. “We got to regroup with the others.” “What about Max?!” Mikey demanded. “We can’t leave him back there!!” “Calm down, Mikey!!” David roared at him. “Max can take care of himself!!”
“RRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!!!” The team froze when they heard the loud roar , followed by a loud "CRASH!!!!" that seemed to make the whole school tremble. Silence fell in the school.
“Max...” Jenny whispered, fearing the worst. The others were also worried. What if Max was captured by the monster, or worst, killed? “Okay, that’s it!” Mikey spoke up, rushing forward. “I’m going back in there!” “Uh-uh!!” David replied. “Max told us to get to safety!!”
“Dude!!” Mikey yelled. “We can’t abandon him to that giant robotic three-headed freak!!” “Calm down!!” David yelled. “Max said he’ll handle it!” “Handle what?!” Mikey screamed. “GETTING HIMSELF KILLED?!” “DON’T YELL AT ME!!!” David screamed back, starting to get angry. “I’M JUST AS WORRIED AS YOU ARE!!!”
“STOP IT!!!!” Jenny screamed, causing the boys to look at her in shock. “What’s wrong with you?!” she demanded. “We’re a team!!” “Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves, squabbling like kindergardeners!!!” Mikey and David bowed their heads in shame. “We’re sorry, Jenny.” David replied. “We’re just scared and worried for Max.”
At that moment, the silence was broken by a strange sound. “SQUEAK!!!” The friends jumped. “What’s that?” David looked around, cautiously. “Another one of Hannibal’s robots?!” “Squeak!!” The squeaking started again. “Robots don’t squeak.” Mikey pointed out. “Squeak, squeak!!” . Suddenly, the friends noticed something small scurrying in their direction.
As it got closer, they were surprised to see that it was a mouse, with brownish gold fur and a long tail. “Since when does our school have mice?” Jenny asked. Before anyone could answer, the mouse started to glow brightly and began to grow.
To the team’s surprise and relief, the figure revealed to be Max. “Max, you’re alright!!” Jenny exclaimed, rushing over and hugging him tightly. Max chuckled nervously as he hugged her back.
The others rushed forward as well. “You okay, Max?” Mikey asked. “I’m fine, guys.” Max replied. “I’ve been through worse.” “So, how did you escape?” David asked. “Well...” Max began, thinking back to the gym.
(Flashback...)
“Come on!!” Tiger-Max yelled at the monster. Both he and the three-headed monster had now practically torn up nearly the entire gym in their fight but they were evenly matched. Tiger-Max panted, his claws were starting to get ache and his hands were getting sore. Looking around desperately for any weapon, he caught sight of the huge banner for the Science Fair.
Getting an idea, he grabbed the banner and waved it in front of the chimera. “Hey, big guy!” Tiger-Max yelled, waving the banner like a matedor waving his cape. “Over here!!” The mechanical beast snarled, looking up from one of the many smashed stands.
“Toro, toro!!” Tiger-Max roared again. The chimera snarled louder with its three heads. It pawed the ground and snorted like a mad bull. “What’s the matter?!” Tiger-Max jeered. “You scared?!” That seemed to work as the chimera’s six eyes glowed red and roared loudly. “HHHHHUUUUUNNNNNNRRRRRROOOOOAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!”
With a great burst of speed, the monster charged forward. Tiger-Max simply waved the banner at it as the creature got closer and closer. Tiger-Max braced as the monster charged. Just as the chimera was about to collide with him, Tiger-Max leapt out of the way just in time.
“How’s this?!” Tiger-Max roared, before wrapping the banner around the stinger and pulling as hard as he could. With all his might, Tiger-Max gave a strong kick at the base of the stinger, smashing it off the tail. “GGGRRRRROOOOUUUUAAAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!” The monster roared as the stinger was ripped off completely, leaving only a metallic stump of wires at the end of its tail.
Max shifted back to his human form as the monster turned around and around, trying to see its tail. “Hey, big guy!!!!” Max called out, the monster turned all three heads at him. “Come and get me!!!”
The chimera roared and charged at him, claws and teeth baring. Max smirked and just before the monster pounced at him, he suddenly shrunk down in a blink of an eye. The chimera didn’t have enough time as it crashed right into the bleachers and right through the wall.
As the monster struggled to get back to its feet, it didn’t notice a small brown mouse scamper across the gym and through a hole through a wall.
(Flashback end...)
“Wow, that’s some quick thinking, Max!” Jake explained. “Actually,” Max replied. “I wasn’t able to lay a dent on it.” “The metal was too strong,” he added. “I was only able to stall in long enough to escape.”
“GGGGGGGRRRROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!” The friends froze when they heard the roar. “Okay...” Jenny asked “Now what?” “How do we beat that thing?” The friends looked around. At that moment, Mikey noticed the football stadium nearby. “Guys!” he called. “I found the perfect place to hide!”
