The first pen sketch I've done in, like... two years? Yeah, it's certainly been quite some time since I last put pen to cardboard, hasn't it? The day job picks up, demanding more of your time, you run out of ideas to draw, and you just sort... of lose your drive from it all. But the spark never truly dies, does it? Yes, it might dim out or go dormant for bit, but it's still always there, even after all of these years.

Anyway, this pen sketch is actually a little gift for World3nder of his sharksona Kal! When we first met, we really hit things off and I wanted to make something for him since thought his character was neat. At the time of this drawing, this vibrant-colored terror of the deep was made aware of my desire for a certain British dish and has come to sate my appetite! He's got fries, he's got malt vinegar (the dish just isn't complete without that stuff)... no fried fish, though. Pity about that... guess it would've been too awkward, given his sona species.

The idea came to mind because, well... I've had fish and chips on my mind a lot. Plus, as Kal and I were really hitting things off at the time, I wanted to do something of his sharksona. Two and two came together, ultimately forming... this! Since the drawing was done at work, I didn't have ready access to his ref sheet and had to draw the character from memory - I actually did a pretty good job memorizing most of his details. I got the stripe orientation all wrong, however, even missing the ones on his forearms, and I have no idea why I applied that pinkish color to his underbelly. Aside from those mess-ups, however, I think it's a pretty decent attempt at drawing a character from memory! Good thing I consider these kind of drawings to be "Scraps" and not proper digital drawings (I'm working on one and it's about 70% done at the time I'm typing this, so no way am I gonna just drop it).

First Draft
I initially wasn't going to post this draft, but decided to share it anyway to prove I was serious about bringing this series back. It has a lot of flaws - even more than what the final product has - but it is admittedly nice to see where a drawing starts vs. where it ends.
