*reissue from Polar Lights
---
For my birthday this last November, my aunt got me the reissued model kits of King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Godzilla! I had a lot of fun putting them together and painting them! (Physically getting them was at the mercy of Big Bad Toy Store's stocking and USPS shipping, and they both made good time.)
---
While Godzilla and Rodan are stylized versions of the '62 and '56 film appearances (respectively), Ghidorah got quite the new look. It's a very western depiction, with the anaconda/python heads. He kinda looks like a dragon you'd see at a medieval-themed mini golf course, lol. Or at least similar to what would have been on an American poster (he even has those three "fingers" like he does on the DESTROY ALL MONSTERS poster).
As for painting, like all of the customs and kits I've done, I started off with a black primer (these paints blend and hold better on paint). Rather than using gold, I dry-brushed him with orange and yellow. The spikes, toe claws, and tail tips were done with a gloss orange and a gloss white. The mouth is done with a gloss red (with a little of that gloss orange to make the details pop a bit), and the teeth are also done in the gloss orange and white combination. And as the wielder of the brush, I got a little creative was with the wings - the "digits" and veins on the wings looked like bolts of lightning to me, so I painted the membranes blue to look like a stormy sky.
I don't know how easy it is to tell, but I actually left the eyes on each head blank (and by that, I mean I scraped the paint off them). I wanted to make them red, but the color of the plastic appealed to me.
The scenery was done with dark gray, tan, and light gray to give it a concrete-y look. When all the parts were attached, I went over it with the tan again to make it appear dusty. The clapper board nameplate was supposed to have a water-slide decal, but I hate those, so I took a small brush and wrote the name instead.
Lemme know what ya think, and for those who got one as well, feel free to share yours!

I can't say they're brittle (Ghidorah here is probably the sturdiest), but there are some parts where it's pretty easy to tell the molds are a little out of registration. I ran into that problem with the Lindberg reissue as well. A little steady trimming does negate it some...but naturally, one shouldn't HAVE to do that.
Plus, some parts in the instructions for Rodan and Lindberg Goji are mislabled. For Rodan, the instructions got the hands backwards, and for Goji, a couple of small fins at the base of the tail don't go where the instructions say so.
I dunno, these kits are $30, give or take. If these were more expensive, I'd raise a bigger fuss. Hell, if I'm honest, I'm almost tempted to get another set. And lord knows I can't wait for the Kong reissue.
