I've really been into Ori games lately since I received my collection box of Ori and the will of the Wisps. I played that game and I absolutely enjoyed every bit of it. I couldn't help but to keep playing, completing the game 100%, starting new games again and again, even replaying Ori and the blind forest, trying to get better on both to get good times on them. I get so absorbed by the world of Nibel and Niwen, I listen to the music over and over and I just can't get over the visuals as well as the story.
I got inspired since then. I've only drawn two little fanarts of Ori, one icon and one phone wallpaper, both made in lineless art, which I'm discovering to really love doing.
Well since then I wanted to create something of my own, both inspired by Ori as well as the pokemon Emolga (I don't know why, but its design charms me.) I wanted to try to make a new specie in a world that I have yet to create, yet I want it to focus on a huge forest, full of mysterious creatures of light and darkness that live together, yet must maintain a balance to keep the forest healthy. Life and death is only natural. The forest is under the watch of two deities. One of Light, and one of Dark.
But in this forest there are creatures that play an important role. Misenras, messengers of light and darkness. Their role is to make communication happen between the two deities, to make sure that balance is kept. In order to achieve their tasks, they have to adapt themselves to any situation, since predators of the forest only see them as one more prey. Misenras are blessed with great memory. What they see, what they hear, they will remember. This allows those flying squirrels to deliver messages without fault, and they also know every corner of the forest like the back of their hands.
Along with being the memories of the forest, Misenras know of both light and dark powers. Once they reach an area of light, they will take a form of light. Once in the treacherous parts of the dark forest, they will blend and fit right in with dark powers.
Here in this picture, this is Ewan (pronounced Yoo-an). After researching the name, which is a real name, I saw how it meant ''Born of the Yew tree'' in scottish. I've always liked that name, but never knew its meaning. I thought it fitting for a squirrel character. He's still young and still discovering the world, but he does his job as he should.
To be honest, I wanted to make a character that can take on a representation of the stuff I do. A sona, if you will, but I'm not he. I just wanted to finally come up with something of my own. I had characters in the past, but honestly never really found them a good use, or simply that what I wanted to do with them was too ambitious and grand. Ewan will probably do a better job than any pokemon or other character that I've made. I'm happy with his design and you'll probably be seeing more of him in the future perhaps in silly situations of your everyday life, or of his life in the forest.
Anyway, this is it for now. Meet Ewan, one of the Misenras of the forest, looking all happy.
