This piece takes place in the early '80s when Clayton used to live in the town of Yardmond, KS, with the Petersons. He didn't have any friends to play with or talk to until he met Kaleb, a 1940 Ford Coupe. From their first interaction, they were the best of pals. They'd play games with each other, drive around the town together, and discuss what was going on in their lives. They were both very happy.
But when Clayton's owners decided to move out of town, he couldn't bring himself to tell Kaleb of his departure. So, when he and his owners left, he spoke not a word to Kaleb, thus leading to the Coupe's anger when they eventually reunited years later. Thankfully, they managed to wash away the bad oil between themselves, and they continued to meet up and share day outs with each other until Clayton passed away.
Whilst Kaleb is sad that his best friend is no longer with him, he's glad that he was able to share the happiest moments of his life with him, and he wouldn't have spent them any other way.
