(Geoff)
A while after the sun had risen, Geoff groggily got up and rubbed his head. He felt dull aches all throughout his body and couldn't help but groan. After a bit, though, he bolted upright much to his body's protest as he suddenly remembered what happened the other day!
"Oh God, Chester!" Geoff shouted.
Getting up as quickly yet as gingerly as he could, Geoff looked around the house and cringed. Some doors were ajar, while others were tightly shut. At the same time, the house looked pretty messy and, worst of all, the lights above were all broken! As such, broken glass littered the floor. Geoff groaned again.
"Fuck, Chester," he muttered.
Carefully and gingerly walking around, Geoff looked around the ruined home, constantly calling out Chester's name. After no luck searching downstairs, Geoff slowly made his way upstairs. Luckily, the upstairs didn't have any lights except for the ones in the bathroom. Geoff then finally checked his and Chester's room. The first thing that hit Geoff when he opened was the shockingly soul-crushing sadness! The atmosphere was so devastating down that Geoff was nearly knocked down!
"Shite!" Geoff shouted as he regained his balance.
After regaining his balance, Geoff immediately spotted Chester in the corner. He was deathly silent and sat totally still. Thread simply gorged himself on Chester's blood slowly. As for his tentacles, Chester's tentacles were totally limp.
"Chester?" Geoff asked softly.
No response. Geoff, w/ an unsure look, gingerly went over to the silent monster and kneeled.
"Hey, buddy," Geoff said while gently putting a hand on Chester's back, "How 'bout we go down and get some breakfast. Ok?"
Still no response. Geoff pursed his lips.
"Chester, c'mon. You can't just stay here forever."
Yet again, no response. Geoff sighed and got up.
"Alright, you asked for this."
He then switched his SOUL to orange, grabbed Chester from behind, and attempted to drag the silent guy. To say it took all of Geoff's willpower to drag Chester all the way downstairs would be the understatement of the millennium. Even w/ BRAVERY, dragging Chester was like dragging a bag of bricks! The whole time, Geoff huffed and puffed while Chester appeared to be emotionally unavailable! The worst part, though, was when the two got to the stairs. Geoff didn't even get down the first step before Chester slipped from his grasp and fell down the stairs! Geoff watched in horror as Chester hit his head quite a bit while tumbling down before finally crashing into the wall below!
"CHESTER!" Geoff shouted.
Ignoring his body's protests, Geoff ran down the stairs and shook Chester as Thread frantically raced around on Chester's head.
"Chester! Chester!" Geoff shouted.
Using all of his might, Geoff flipped Chester over and cringed. Chester's eyes were orange due to Geoff, and his expression was stuck in a sad expression, though his eyes appeared dead. As for damage, Chester's head and body appeared to be dented in many places, though he didn't seem to care at all... Geoff got a pained expression at this. He gingerly got up and pulled out his phone before dialing the number for his paperboy boss.
"Hey, Mr. Reed?" Geoff asked, "I can't come to work today. I'm not feeling well and I'm having a situation w/ my friend. No, I can't just suck it up, and neither can he. I'll be back to work as soon as I can. Ok? Bye."
Geoff hung up and looked at Chester's unmoving form. For a second, he thought he saw a spark in Chester's eyes, but it was gone as soon as it came. Geoff got a pained expression and cringed.
...
A good portion of the day was spent w/ Geoff trying to get Chester to do something. For the whole day, Chester sat on the couch. Before doing anything, though, Geoff made sure to clear away the broken glass. For breakfast and lunch, Geoff tried to feed Chester himself, but this didn't go well. The food would simply sit there in Chester's mouth for a bit before falling out after a bit, much to Geoff's chagrin. Aside from that, Geoff tried to cheer Chester up, but this went about as well as you'd expect. Geoff tried all sorts of games, as well as other silly stuff, but no matter what, Chester wouldn't budge! He just kept on staring ahead w/ that sad, blank look on his face, even when Geoff tried to play Chester's favorite game, charades! Eventually, though, Geoff finally got sick of all this and finally snapped.
"Chester!" Geoff shouted while shaking the monster, "Chester! Why won't you wake up already?! I am sick of you being like this!"
Chester still made no response. Geoff, very frustrated, shook the monster even harder.
"CHESTER! CHESTER!" Geoff shouted furiously w/ tears starting to spill.
Yet again, no response. Geoff, stopping w/ the shaking, still shouted w/ tears rolling down his face.
"WHY WON'T YOU DO ANYTHING?! PLEASE, CHESTER!"
Chester still didn't move. Crying even harder, Geoff finally let out the final straw.
"WHY DID YOU BELIEVE THAT BITCH, NATAS, IN THE FIRST PLACE?!"
That sentence actually seemed to do the trick. While Chester didn't respond right away, he slowly began to push Geoff off of himself as his expression was still sad, but his eyes now had a shadow over them.
(Chester and Geoff)
"Oh, now you move, you damn bastard?" Geoff asked in a frustrated tone.
Chester started to go stoic at that, which made Geoff tense, but just as it started, Chester went back to being sad before anything could really levitate.
"...Can you please not…?" Chester asked very softly.
Seeing and hearing Chester like this, Geoff softened up a bit.
"Ok, I'm sorry for that. But why have you been so… dead?" Geoff asked.
"...I wasted my life in this house for 15 years, stupidly thinking my daddy would come back and that he cared about me… As such, *broken smile* why wouldn't I feel so worthless?!"
Geoff softened even farther and gave a horrified cringe as he realized that Chester was right. He had technically wasted his life here, waiting for someone who clearly hadn't cared for him.
"But why did you stay, though? How come you didn't realize your dad wasn't coming back before?"
Chester's face became very pained at that. Another shadow fell over his eyes as he turned away.
"Chester…?" Geoff asked unsurely.
For a bit, there was silence. Then, Chester began to sing. While Geoff was very confused at first, he chose to listen intently.
(Song: Drift Away slowed down)
"Here in the house
Let's play a game
I'll show you how it's done
Here in the garden
Stand very still
This'll be so much fun
And then he smiled
That's what I'm after
(Chester smiles brokenly)
A smile in his eyes
The sound of his laughter
Happy to listen
Happy to play
Happily watching him driiiift away
Happily waiting
All on my own
Under the endless sky
Counting the seconds
Standing alone
As thousands of days go by
(Chester's expression becomes pained)
Happily wondering
Night after night
Is this how it works?
Am I doing it right?
Happy to listen
Happy to stay
Happily watching him driiiift away
You keep on turning pages for people who don't care
People who don't care about you
And still, it takes you ages to see that no one's there
See that no one's there
See that no one's there
Everyone's gone on without you
Finally something
Finally news
About how the story ends
He doesn't exist now
Survived by his other son
And all of his brand new friends
(Chester smiles the broken smile of someone who's lost everything)
Isn't that lovely?
Isn't that great?
And isn't that cruel?
And aren't I a fool to have
Happily listened
Happy to stay
Happily watching him driiiift
(Tears well up in Chester's eyes)
Driiiift
(Chester lowers his face into his hands pathetically)
Driiiiiiift away..."
Geoff was at a loss for words as Chester quietly wept into his hands. For a bit, he simply processed what he'd heard as Chester kept crying. Then, slowly, he gently grabbed Chester's wrists and pulled them away to little struggle.
"Chester... I know that I can't understand how you feel, and I know there's nothing I can do to EVER make up for how your dad hurt you, but please... don't let him break you like this. You have people who actually care about you now. I'm very sure that Patrick likes you, and I'm sure Lola does too. As for me... I love you, you adorable bastard."
Silence ensued for a bit.
"...You don't mean that. I know you hated dealing w/ since the beginning and you've only dealt w/ me out of pity and fear..." Chester said quietly.
Geoff, somewhat offended at this, gently slid in and hugged Chester.
"While that might be a bit true, I genuinely love you. I did feel bad for you, and sure, you could be scary at times, but ultimately, I still love you, you crazy fluffball."
At first, Chester remained silent. After a bit, though, Chester slowly wrapped his gooey arms around Geoff. Rather than speak, though, Chester simply cried quietly onto Geoff's back, making small whimpering noises.
...
The rest of the day was spent just feeling like garbage. While Chester thankfully finally got food in, nothing else really happened. Geoff felt pretty achy and Chester still felt hideous. As such, they simply cuddled, each feeling like garbage. Eventually, well into the night, though, the couple fell asleep, still feeling like garbage.
A while after the sun had risen, Geoff groggily got up and rubbed his head. He felt dull aches all throughout his body and couldn't help but groan. After a bit, though, he bolted upright much to his body's protest as he suddenly remembered what happened the other day!
