AHAAH!!!! A Surprise second Post for Monster Monday.
Sodomu was the Monster of the Week in the Kotetsu Jeeg anime and was the 30th Haniwa Phantom overall in the show, appearing in the climax of Episode 30. It was a humanoid type Phantom with a green brownish color scheme in the chest, shoulders, fore arms, pelvis, tail and lower legs; with red spikes on the shoulders, gray color scales, dark blue hands and feet (the right hand having claws for fingers), and a wore mask with a hole – eyes are seen in a close up; a horned skull adorns the monster in the waist. It's weapons were its long claws, tail, fired projectiles from the scales in the abdomen & a wind attack from the hole in the face. The Episode marks a new point for Hiroshi, unveiling his true power. Also marks one of 2 episodes where Don, Pancho and the MechaDon don't appear.
The story picks up right after the events of Episode 26; Himika, Imika and Mimashi wondering how did Hiroshi survived Garosu's initial assassination attempt, with Mimashi proposing something must be protecting Hiroshi's heart. Himika orders Ikima to investigate the matter out. The opportunity doesn't take too long as Hiroshi, largely due to said previous events and pressure by his father, spends his time training to unveil the power he holds, but overworks himself to the point of exhaustion and is taken to a Hospital, rather than Build Base; the medic (a Jamataian in disguise) points out to Kikue the Hospital is closer than Build Base and his condition requires immediate attention.
Side Note: He stays underwater for an hour, doesn't drown, but runs out of air due to over workout? ... Isn't HE a damn Cyborg, powered by a magical Bell?
Once they arrive (a rundown building where Disney's the Lonesome Ghosts was likely filmed), Hiroshi is taken to intensive care, while Kikue waits, later been told by a Doctor (Imika in disguise) he can't see him right now. Once she tells this to the others at Build Base, after careful discussion on the matter, Prof. Shiba suspects a trap; Imika sedates Hiroshi and runs an X-Ray scan, discovering the Bell inside of him in the process, but soon learns Michi is in the Hospital. Wearing his disguise, he allows her to see Hiroshi, who is convulsing in bed, but using Morse code by blinking his left eye, which she reads, lets her know of the peril of the situation.
Side Note 2: BTW, 10 pts for using eye blinking to sent out a Morse Code, that's was genuinely smart. I believe this happened in real life once with a hostage with military training, if I'm not mistaken.
After Michi leaves, Hiroshi is taken to the Operation room, but before Ikima could open him up, Michi breaks in and shoots at the villains, injects Hiroshi with a counter sedative and he regains his stamina back, transforms into his Cyborg form and saves Michi on time, beating Ikima and his men, the General escape and Hiroshi goes after him, while Michi goes to get the Big Shooter. Hiroshi captures up to Imika, disarms him and attempts to kill him with his own sword, when Mimashi arrives under orders of Himika; the two team up and overpowers Hiroshi. Prof. Shiba contacts his son and tells him all his training lead to this moment and that he must unleash his full potential; Hiroshi Transforms into his new Cyborg form and takes on Ikima and Mimashi to task, proving to be faster and stronger than his older form, but before he could eliminate the Generals, the Phantom Sodomu comes out and attacks Hiroshi.
Side Note 3: the new Cyborg form seems to have more resemblance to the Super Heroes of Tokusatsu Super Sentai shows, rather than the style of Pilot uniform given to Koji and the other Mazinger Characters. It had a Red and Black Uniform with yellow outlines, a yellow and red mask and sport whips for weapons. I actually thought this may be where the concept for Duke's own Pilot suit was inspired from, cause when I saw this the first time, I thought of Grendizer, and double checking a bit, I was surprise to learn both shows actually debuted the same day: October 5th 1975.
Also, at this point, viewing the Episode was something diffucult for me to do, cause whoever translated this, ACTUALLY half ass it, and forgot to add the Subtitles from this point on, so I will try to surmise to the best of my abilities, mind you, besides some small words, I don't understand Japanese.
Hiroshi tries to attack the monster, of course the latter proving to much for our evolve hero, when Michi arrives on the Big Shooter, blasting its tail off; she shoots the Jeeg parts and Hiroshi transform into Steel Jeeg, but still, the Monster's body proves impervious to his attacks. Jeeg request the Bazooka, but this prove to be equally fruitless. Ikima and Mimashi informs Jeeg Sodomu is far stronger than the other Phantoms (Second guessing their words here, but that's the best I can assume, since Hiroshi starts using newer Gadgets, based on what happens next). Sodomu continues to beat Jeeg down with its arsenal, when Michi fires its missiles, hitting and tossing Sodomu – the Phantom flies over Jeeg who uses the Bazooka, but the recoil of its own blast destroys the weapon.
Been lock in a stalemate, Jeeg asks for a solution (again, second guessing here) and Prof. Shiba tells Michi to fire newly design Weapons; the Jeeg Buckler – two spinning spiked wheels of death. Jeeg uses the Bucklers to protect from the projectiles, and avoids Sodomu's charge. He then throws the two Bucklers, slicing the Phantom in half, exploding as result.
After the battle, Hiroshi, finally understands/or thanks(?) his father, for everything, and I would say he promises to fight on. (reminding here, again, second guessing, but the only word I got out of Hiroshi's ending monologue is Otōsan, the word for Father).
