Dark night shrouded a mass, a giant lump in the swirling oceans. Keen sight would reveal an island, more speficially, Decipia Island, not many have heard of the history of this particular landform. A glorious past, filled with honour, justice and freedom. And yet, also clouded with dark evils, legends and myths. Tales of the island's horrors have drifted from mouth to ear of the populace for countless generations, feeding a fear of a rising force. A dark menance, churning in the depths of the surrounding sea.
The sea, a dark void trapping the people from the outside world, for they have long held a fear of what monsters lurk in the deeps. Rumours pass between the ages, amplifying a dread of deep waters in all of Decipia's population.
The sun has long been a valued part of life among the inhabitants of the island. They fear the dark, an irrational fear, to be vanquished by the bringer of life. The golden star has a unkanny tendency to act in accordance with all the people's beliefs. Never is a foot out of line during a shining day, foul deeds seemingly occur only at dusk and night, it has been that way since the people can remember.
Ayd stood, gazing upon the horizon, the golden sun piercing the sky, calling for a new dawn. Solar rays beamed down from the heavens, creating a natural cascade of shining light. The sight was incomprehensible, unimaginable, the expanse of nature's beauty would baffle art's greatest icon. Ayd stood, physically paralysed by what she was seeing.
It is a gift, she thought to herself. She was truely humbled to be chosen as the one to experience such a picturesque scene. Ayd flung her arms into the air above her head, allowing the light to wash over her, she basked in the sunlight feeling truely calm. She suddenly felt tired, drained. She lowered her arms back to her sides. Her white fur ruffled in the wind.
Even as she stood, upon the cliff side, utterly surrounding by tranquility, something was amiss. Something was making its way to disturb her. Ayd's tail twitched, she turned to her left. A figure moved towards her with purpose, whatever it was that she was observing, it moved with long, precise strides. As it got closer, Ayd could begin to see feature's of the encroaching individual.
It stood tall, easily clearing the boundries of six feet. Long, dark, flowing robes swept about in the wind. It's hood cast a shadow over whatever lay within, creating a sinister sense about the newcomer. A staff held in the right hand, guiding it's strides, a sparkling jewel glistened from the top of the wooden antique.
Finally, the stranger stood before Ayd. a paw emerged from a sleeve, reached around and lowered the hood; exposing the face of a white tiger.
"What foul gesture is this?" Ayd spat at the tiger. "Only a hermit wouldn't know of you, fiend! Away with you. I will have no part in your evil magic. You will leave me be!"
"Oh?" the spellweaver mocked. "I'm afraid you have no voice in this matter, things are about to get much worse. Nonetheless, you are correct, I am whom you believe me to be."
"You may be wondering why I'm here, it's simple. I'll explain it to you when you succumb to my will, for you will be my first follower. You're spirit is pure and white, like a canvas ready to be painted. I see the potential in you, yes, it's a vast potential indeed. Ready to be unlocked, and better yet, mine for the taking." he spoke slow and mockingly, every syllable he uttered was a curse against life.
Ayd recoiled, she wore an expression of pure dread. Hate overflowed within her being, she loathed the idea of magic being misused, such a respected practice should never have come to become a play thing.
"You are wrong." Ayd spoke with care. "If you ever believe that you will prevail in your stride, you are wrong. Not all spellcasters are twisted and cruel. You are on your own and you will fail. You know this." Ayd then realised what she had been saying. She had answered her own questions before she could ask them. The spellcaster couldn't defeat the magical order that resides on the island on his own, which is why he came to her. To convert her to his cause, to enslave her to his will and use her as a tool to reek havoc and doom upon those whom she cherished so dearly.
"You're an admirable wolf, Ayd. But even now you fail to understand just how dire this situation is for yourself. I don't believe you can actually begin to grasp just how loyally you will serve by my side. Unquestioningly with utter devotion of mind and soul. Come now, the first step has been taken, we must act." He turned around and begun walking away, as if simply expecting Ayd to follow his path.
Ayd had a split-second to come up with a plan to dodge her mind being invaded by the foul magic that the tiger used so carelessly. She took the opportunity and swung a punch aimed straight for the target. A sleeved arm rose slightly and pointed upwards towards the heavens. A crack of lightning flashed from the sky and struck Ayd with a direct hit on the back of the head. She felt the current channel through her spinal cord, pure, seething agony surged down her body. She howled out into the air and fell forward onto the ground.
The last thing that she saw before completely losing herself was the feet of a madman. Her blurred sight worsened as the electrical energies destroyed her. Her vision failing, she clung to her consciousness, her will the only thing stopping her from falling into nothingness.
"This is what I like about you Ayd, this is why I choose you. Your body is fragile. Your mind is a wall, strong, resilient and death-defyingly expansive, you don't know it yet. But it will matter, and you will know it when your time comes." Ayd's eyes wavered, she wanted to get up with all her strength, to get up and strike back at the enemy. She snapped one arm and started to push down, hard upon the earth trying to get onto her feet.
She looked up into the tiger's face. He was looking down at her, grinning. He flung an arm from his sleeve and pointed at her, electrical sparks jumped across her body, bringing in a new flash of uncontrollable pain.
Her fur singed, her body steaming she gave in to the superior powers. Her consciousness left her, and she passed into the next realm.
"It seems you were more persistant than I first believed, youngling. It's good, I will have that persistance atop my own." He laughed to himself for a moment "Now I'm afraid I must stop you from going any further into the void, lest you become out of my reach." His arm extended again, a pale beam wavered across to Ayd's body, the grass around the area waved slightly faster as the wind increased in strength.
Ayd's eyes opened, she rolled onto her back and flailed in the agony of severe burns. Howls of pain filled the air, she should die from her wounds right there and then, her death was denied and her suffering prolonged. Her mind began to break.
That's it for the prologue.
