Half of a breakup breakfast diptych <3
The Mountain Goats - Woke Up New
On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time
I felt free and I felt lonely and I felt scared
And I began to talk to myself almost immediately
Not being used to being the only person there
The first time I made coffee for just myself, I made too much of it
But I drank it all just 'cause you hate it when I let things go to waste
And I wandered through the house like a little boy lost in the mall
And an astronaut could've seen the hunger in my eyes from space
And I sang
Oh, what do I do? What do I do? What do I do?
What do I do without you?
On the morning when I woke up without you for the first time
I was cold, so I put on a sweater and I turned up the heat
And the walls began to close in and I felt so sad and frightened
I practically ran from the living room out into the street
And the wind began to blow and all the trees began to pant
And the world in its cold way started coming alive
And I stood there like a business man waiting for the train
And I got ready for the future to arrive
And I sang
Oh, what do I do? What do I do? What do I do?
What do I do without you?

The second half of the diptych is actually from a Burt Bacharach track!
It'd be a sad little world.
I didn't read those song lyrics until later, so yeah that makes more sense.
I feel like I learned a good bit doing it, even if the result isn't really what I was shooting for <3
You managed to really capture the emotinal hangover breakups often results in pretty good. :)
By the way, that band - What kind of music do they play? I'd just check out the link, but alas, my connection sucks.
Also, Mountain Goats and coffee pup
I think on house exteriors alone, we cover about 87% of the Pantone spectrum...
Now... well awesome picture! ;)
Owen opened, then came out and played strings for a number of the Mountain Goats' tracks during their set.
Don't let Owen Palette's adorableness fool you he is down to discourse w Ed Droste on french dicks
And sometimes he gets drunk and karaokes Mariah Carey with him
I think the first thing I ever heard of his was actually his Peach, Plum, Pear cover. Incidentally, that might have been the first time I heard Joanna Newsom's music, too. Watershed moments in the life of an artpop gaywad
His covers of Bloc Party's This Modern Love and John Cale's Paris 1919 are also faves <3
Cute character, as well. Kinda reminds me of Paulie Mayhew.
That was basically my goal for this one -- to actually put in an honest-to-god perspective-drawn interior. I don't do them often enough, so they're still pretty arduous to put together ^_^
Also, I meant "on the background" obviously, not "one the background"...
DIE, FILTHY TYPO, DIE.
I found this right after pouring a HUGE cup of coffee too xD
And thanks ^_^ Glad you dig it.
I might go grab me a burr here
sooo cascade-hoppy, like grapefruit juice beer
I'm more satisfied with the other one from a painting perspective, but I do like the green here, and I think that I learned a good bit painting the figure in this, so it's all good even if this one feels like it came up a little short of my ambitions for it ^_^
this song has always projected such a strong image into my mind. it's one of my favorites by them, and i think you captured the emotion so well in these two pieces. your painting style does it more than justice, and like others said above, i absolutely love this particular shade of green.
sometimes i see artwork that simply make me glad it exists. it doesn't happen that often, but this is one of those times. :D
And yeah, I agree that it's one of my favorite tracks by them because I think it paints a mental image so well and really captures the dude's head/heartspace. I think the second piece I did is more successful as a painting, but I still like them both, and enjoyed working on something a little different than my normal subject matter <3
You did an awesome job depicting loneliness after a breakup and both of the images together are just so sad but so perfect.
I've always adored your art and style, but it's always been from afar as I'm quite shy. ^^"
And thanks for the kind words!
And you're very very welcome.
It kind of reminds me of an Iñarritu film, only that this is a happy one.
Congratulations, this is... beyond any words.
