It's a sure sign that Summer's arriving when I start seeing antique vehicles like this charming 1917 Model T Ford. This body style was known as a "tourer" back in the day.
Introduced in October 1908, the Model T was Henry Ford's pride and joy, and he strongly resisted any attempt by his company to change or upgrade it. On one memorable occasion, Ford secretly built a sleek, updated little red version and displayed it to Mr. Ford as a proposal for a new model. The story goes that he ripped off the driver's side door with his bare hands and proceeded to destroy the whole car where it sat. It wasn't until 1927 when he finally (and reluctantly) agreed to replace it with the Model A.
The last Model T was built in May 1927, at which time a total of 15,007,033 had been produced. It was not until the early 1970s that the Volkswagen Beetle overtook that remarkable feat.
