How else would you explain a talking sword when you scarcely believe that such a thing exists? That (combined with name) would lead a fur to think it's a radio for a third party.

(Basically, it's confusion by the waiters as to whether or not WEAF was a third member of the party. They were probably hiding under tables. von Bronzeberg, of course, has jumped to a conclusion as to who the third fur is.)
