As many predicted he's come to resent the Tree of Life herself; understandable, yet in a way, he's proving why the Tree failed him. His reasons to be a Guardian were not wholly his own, and many superficial. I grant those blaming the Tree herself for 'setting him up', I fully blame his parents. They put all this expectation on him, and when he didn't make the cut, they turned their back on him. He told them he had a chance to try for Guardianship again, but they considered him a failure, so again it all falls back to his parents.
With luck they'll get theirs, be fun as hell if the Tree asks the parents when they present the brother for Guardianship, and she asks where their elder son is. Their response, invokes the Tree to shame them deeply. one can hope.

I have seen it, hence my contemplation. They're treating Toby the same way they did Nigel, but the problem is....what if Toby also doesn't meet their expectations? They don't have anymore children they can exploit to fulfill their fantasies. All of their expressions of "love" are empty and shallow like themselves. But one is always left wondering where they went wrong when they've pushed their children away from themselves.
for one thing, he should be putting all of that anger on the parents for putting him in this, it was them that wanted him to be this way not himself, for hating the guardian, maybe he misunderstood her meaning perhaps so that's why he's angry at her.
Really great work on these

But, he is a child. To him the only thing that changed to make his life miserable was the Tree not choosing him. To any child they would then see it as the Tree's fault for messing up his life. And we also should mention this is him writing about his life from an older perspective. We don't know if his mindset has changed or not.
Thing is looking at how he looks in his ref, that's quite unlikely, and even if she did, I wouldn't be surprised if Nigel wanted nothing to do with her, considering although it wasn't intentional, her decision to not make him a guardian right then and there, resulting in him being gradually changed into the negative individual he is now.
Bet he was told to never come back. Oo.
We've never seen Luna go on the offensive and I don't think we'd want to.
Though as thing's stand right now Nigel wouldn't be able to do her any real harm.
But that doesn't mean that Nigel wouldn't dedicate his life to figuring out how.
Am hoping that doesn't happen.
Cant wait for the next page to see what come's next.

To those saying Nigel's "Joined the Darkside", note an interesting detail...
It's ALL in Past Tense. "Was", "Wanted", "Could", "Spent", "Didn't"...
This means that Much of these already happened for Nigel. He's simply reciting it for all to hear/read.
Which is why I am holding my Judgement until the last page of Nigel's Prologue story, since "Joining the Dark Side" would means he looks evil yet healthy as an adult... But he's thin as a Rake and makes Adult Tristian look like a Muscular knight!
His clothing as an Adult is ragged and patchy, while his clothing here is still good quality, even if a little frayed, and his weapon of choice as an Adult is simply a travelling stick, while as a child, he would have handled a Stolen Knife.
He would make an attempt, that much is likely, but he won't succeed. Sides, even if he's armed with a knife, Leo, Miralle and Chilli would not let him near her.

He may try... But he may falter... He is after all, Still a Child.
Sides, he notably mentions his brother Toby as "Training to be a Guardian and is on his way"... Which considering Nigel was clearly disowned, is something he should not know, unless he encountered them.
Still, I feel his former family would be hit incredibly hard later on... And what worries me is how he'd try to get his revenge...
There are worse ways at getting revenge on someone, that go beyond "killing", and considering Luna is the Tree of Life... What could be the best way to hurt Luna, a goddess of life and lover of children, that a Child like Nigel could do?
...A child that she rejected within earshot of his egotistical family?

Thats what i mean. He may try to hurt her, but i'm sure he could either stop just in time because he still cant do it regardless of his anger against her, or she is able do dodge the attack somehow because she either knows whats coming and/or because he is still a young boy.
And yeah, i guess he will do a MUCH worse kind of revenge to his "family" that dropped him like garbage just because he didnt hit their high pitched expectations.

He'll learn soon enough who is really to blame for his problems.
Don't blame the kid for blaming the tree, in his eyes she caused his parents to hate him, since he doesn't understand the manipulation he's gone through by his parents. It's all he's ever known so a different point of view is completely alien to him.

I have many theories about the story (like, the parents acted like that because they know it's their own fault for "loving too much" the kid and filling his head with dreams, or something like that) but i don't want to risk spoiling the story... And i just hope nothing bad will happen to our dear tree of life. x3
"the parents acted like that because they know it's their own fault for "loving too much" the kid and filling his head with dreams, or something like that"
If you look at previous page, that's not the case. They began treating their younger son the exact same way they treated Nigel when they still hoped he'll be chosen as a guardian; playing, training, saying how they'll love him forever....exact same meaningless words because they don't love their children like a good parent would. They only see their children as means to extend the family tradition. When Nigel "failed" in their eyes, they disowned him and turned their attention to Toby. What I dread in scenarios like these is, what if the other remaining child *also* fails to live up to their expectations...on one hand they'll have no one else to use for their sick fantasies, but on the other hand it would be *two* abandoned children on their streets.

Yeah, i know the story seems to be that way for now... but i'd just like to see some kind of positive twist like the parents acted like dicks because they had the same childhood and that's precisely the way to become a gardian, because their own parents treated them the exact same way with some kind of psychological training like "Loving children and then rejecting them to teach the hard way of becoming a real gardian"... but, as i said, i don't want to spoil the story. ^^;
I see lots of people blaming Luna for not checking up on the kid and making sure his parents didn't resent him, and while i understand where you're coming from, do remember that Nigel's parents are Guardians. They're supposed to be good people. Luna had no reason to expect that kind of abusive reaction from them.
That is true and a fair good point, still I'm just surprised she didn't at least try to approach the situation or such. Though it's very possible she didn't know and once she meets him again or such and he shares his story about what happened after that she probably feel horrible or something. I'm not sure.
If she’s somewhat aware I wonder why she didn’t come to them and at least talk with them a little about it. As the tree of life herself I figured they listen to her.
Unless it’s possible that his family aren’t really in it to be actual guardians but have some form of celebrity status. It’s probably why she asked him why does he want to be a guardian. Is it really his choice or his family’s choice.

If that were the case, then it's very likely she would she would have never found them worthy to be Guardians in the first place. I would assume that being a Guardian would require one too be willing to constantly risk there lives, as well as be willing to protect others as well, it's very likely not an easy, happy go lucky life, I don't know what it is about Nigel's family, but the fact of the matter is, Luna deems them worthy, whatever the reason may be, they are in a strange roundabout way genuinely dedicated to the cause that is part of being a Guardian.
As for why she told Nigel what she did, it's very likely because he was simply doing it for his parents and not for himself

I don't really like ethereal characters that tell everyone how to live and act, but experiences none of the downsides to being a mortal being. It's pretty easy to be as ethical & moral as you please when there's no one in your life who can make you miserable.
Luna /did/ ruin his life because she's the one who is a catalyst for every aspect of Nigel's life.
She's the reason her parents expected something from him.
She's the reason he didn't meet those expectations.
She's the reason he became an outcast in his own home.
All because she can stand higher than everyone and look down on them. If her guardians are raising their children incorrectly to be guardian, and then she tells the child off but let the parents continue however they want... nah, Luna isn't "good", she's about as neutral as you can get. Crushing the life of a child while being completely hands-off with abusive parents is just pathetic.

I mean to be completely honest, even though it is mostly if not primarily the parents fault for the child's life going downhill- the goddess didn't help either. She does hold some responsibility and instead of talking to the parents about why she didn't make him a guardian, she instead just tells the boy which leads to this downward spiral. Honestly I hope the issue gets resolved but we'll see.
He was a child, to young to understand that the Tree if Life didn’t failed him, it was his parents. It was the way they raised him that was at fault. Because of that, she couldn’t let him become a guardian “yet”. He didn’t really understand how selfish and arrogant his parents were. That they never really cared for him or his brother that much. He wasn’t ready to be a guardian yet, which should’ve been seen as a small setback. Instead, they treated him as him as the black sheep of the family.
Nigel chose to blame the Tree if Life for his misfortune instead of his parents, not realizing they are the one’s responsible for his misery. He chose to runaway and into a life of poverty. Now, he has chosen to seek revenge against the Tree one day. I presume he will come to realize how wrong his was to choose vengeance and finally see how he should’ve been angry at his parents the whole time. He will come to understand that the Tree if life was the first person to truly care for him, how foolish he was to plan for ways to hurt her. I can imagine that Nigel will someday let go of that hate that has blinded him, then seek atonement and redemption.
