“Him? Are you sure, Meggan?”
The silver vixen turned away from the magic mirror to look inquiringly at the short, rotund skunk girl.
“Yes, mistress,” Meggan said without hesitation,”Him.”
The vixen regarded Meggan for a full minute, during which the girl did not flinch. She’d known Meggan since she was a little girl. She’d always been sensitive and kind but, with a little wild streak that had always intrigued the vixen. Meggan had done well in school while still managing to get in trouble for small things, pranks mostly; sneaking into the school with a friend to paint the ancient long urinals as a rainbow for Pride Month was a good one.
Now, she was here, purple hair, piercings and big boots, asking for a favor. To make this human her tailor-made girlfriend. It was an odd request but, Meggan had been quite specific.
“Why, I wonder.” The vixen said, half to herself.
“I’ve been watching him in the mirror for months. His name’s Jeremy. He’s got a kind heart and he’s smart.” Meggan said, “But, like, he wants… um… he wishes he were more… outgoing, right? Like me. He keeps wishing he could escape his life and, um, he likes short, chubby girls…”
The vixen turned back to the mirror. He was quite unassuming. Basic hair, almost malnourished figure, glasses and a sense of dress that was nonexistent. She had to concede, however that he really was kind and loyal, to boot. While the vixen did not fully approve of the little man’s milquetoast nature, she did feel that Meggan was not making a bad choice. The vixen cared about Meggan too much to let her actually make a bad choice.
“Fine, Meggan,” she said with a kindly smile, “If that is what you wish. Here.”
She picked up a beautiful oak box from the counter beneath the mirror and held it before Meggan’s wide eyes. The young skunk girl looked up imploringly at the vixen.
“Go ahead. Open it.”
Biting her lip, Meggan moved the clasp and opened the box. Inside was a black leather collar with a chrome ring. Instead of a buckle, there was a kind of clasp on the open ends of the collar. They glowed purple. Meggan smiled.
“What does it do?”
“Do?” the vixen laughed, “It gives you what you want, my dear! Simply place it ‘round his neck and it will size itself to him and then lock. As soon as it is locked the transformation will begin.”
Meggan lifted the collar from the box. Her eyes were alight.
“It won’t hurt, will it?” She asked, her face suddenly grave.
“Oh, no. Not at all. In fact, it may even be pleasurable. Though it will be a great surprise.”
Meggan nodded and looked to the dimensional portal already glowing in the corner. In unspoken unison, they moved towards it.
“The portal will remain open until you, or both of you, return.”
When they were within a meter of the portal, the vixen stopped and placed a hand on Meggan’s shoulder. Meggan looked up into the vixen’s serious eyes.
“He is a good person, Meggan but, before you do this, you must remember that he may not appreciate what you’ve done to him. The spell will not make him love you. He may never love you.” her voice dropped to a whisper, “He may even despise you for it.”
Meggan gulped, looked down a the collar then into the portal. After a while she looked back at the vixen.
“I- I’ll take the chance. It could be lovely, right?” she smiled hopefully, “Anyway, he deserves a chance to escape.”
“That a girl…” The vixen smiled and released Meggan’s shoulder with a squeeze.
The short, round skunk girl squared her shoulders, took a deep breath and stepped through the portal to another world...
