So THAT is how the air cleaner mounts. HMM. I could fabricate something like that without too much trouble That explains the bracket on the flywheel housing. I wonder if I can find the air cleaner assembly used someplace not too expensive. Always easier to buy than build, but I do have a bunch of lightweight sheet metal I could weld up an assembly.
