Hmmm well, I was right.. He just thinks Basil is a problem and that he influences her drinking habits without realizing.. Also yikes, this feels... Familiar with me and my boyfriend a few years ago. Always had the tendancy to "talk" to his friends when things are bad, creating a negative image of me, without ever mentioning the good.
Yeah, same here, but actually I was the one always talking with my friends when I felt upset with my boyfriend. I think this is something that often happensiwthout realizing It... because you talk with them when feeling bad rather than praising your boyfriend when he does something good, because why should you praise that overly with your friends? Usually I had other topics to talk with them... and this creates a overly negative image uwu
I think It's a problem that should arise more awareness because It can lead to larger problems - I literally lost my friends because of this because at some point they disliked my partner so much they didn't want to have to do anything with him anymore :v
Since I became aware of that problem I also try to explain situations in a way where It doesn't look like my partner is the only one having fault in an argue etc. vsrydizufoiso

Ooof. I've been in that situation, talking about my relationship issues with friends, to try and work things out in my head, but out loud... After we broke up, turns out my friends hated my ex because of all the times I'd talk about the bad/annoying things but never the good things. I ended up losing those friends too, because they became very judgmental of everyone I dated after that :/
Also oof, I know we don't have the full context of their lives, but going back and re-reading Basil's behavior with some of Carolina's new context definitely paints some of Basil's stuff in a negative light. But also damn, girl. She makes everything sound like it's Laguna being a shitty partner making her do things when speaking with Basil and vice-versa with Laguna, it seems. she needs to figure her shit out.

Okay, so my view on Laguna has been flipped around a good deal, mostly from realizing all I really had was context from what Carolina was saying and some ominous artwork. I am more neutral towards Laguna now... and decidedly more worried about now... and my views on the writing has not changed at all. Great stuff, very nuanced.
