- Bright Eyes (Fox Amoore Rendition) -
Probably one of my old all time favorite songs when I was younger (It was such a nostalgic experience doing this again, if you've ever watched Watership Down.) This is a slightly different version, subtle changes in the structure to allow some effects to push through on the vocals (like some minim cross delay). There's two vocal tracks, an upper and lower, so hat off too Merina for doing quite a big range. Foxcall added a mandolin and a violin for backing as well, which was a joy to work with!

I really have to agree on the beautiful voice. While I could not understand what was being said in some spots, I have that issue with Art Garfunkel's original version as well. I will need to dig out the DVD somewhere and turn captions on to actually know what's being said.
My father bought the book and the 3 DVD's for it, intending on having my niece watch it for her 7th Birthday. We put it in a couple days later and was very glad we did not go through with the plan. It is not a cartoon for Children.
Until I watched that movie, I had no idea of the true nature of that song. Now, every time I hear it it just brings me to tears. Yours did the very same thing.

Bright Eyes
Is it a kind of dream
Floating out on the tide
Following the river of death downstream
Oh, is it a dream?
There's a fog along the horizon
A strange glow in the sky
And nobody seems to know where you go
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?
Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes
Is it a kind of shadow
Reaching into the night
Wandering over the hills unseen
Or is it a dream?
There's a high wind in the trees
A cold sound in the air
And nobody ever knows when you go
And where do you start
Oh, into the dark
Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes
Bright eyes
Burning like fire
Bright eyes
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly

Bright eyes
And yes, you cant really listen to this song without tearing up... if you don't, you aren't listening... But as Fox himself always says, 'Don't just listen... Feel.' Can't say it any better myself =^.^=

The problem with the movie is that it had to rush things to make it's time limit. You might actually want to go to YouTube and find the television series, which had enough seasons to bring the story into far better focus. If I had one bad thing to say, the ending felt like a cop out, rush job. Kind of like an epic, super sized movie series from a couple years back.
Funny, because Gremlins gave me nightmares too, at the same age. But although some of Watership down scared the heck out of me, I never had nightmares about it, and I loved it. I wanted to watch it over again, but my parents said it was too violent and scary and wouldn't let me. :( I jumped on the book as soon as I found out it existed when I was like eight.
that's 'cause you guys are probably a younger generation (i'm 37). Gremlins and Ghostbusters were the original prod for the PG-13 rating. Slasher movies had just started, as well. We weren't rendered immune, yet, by gratuitous and constant violence (loony tunes don't count because there were never any body parts or fluids involved). Ironic that, nowadays, Loony Tunes can't be broadcast due to their political incorrectness, but anything with sex and violence gets rated down, now :P
Fox... oh my gosh.
Watership Down was one my favorite movies as a child, and one of the stories that inspired my love of all things furry. Your version is definitely different, but beautiful and sweet nonetheless.
I am sitting here in shock and awe as I listen to this. Thank you, my friend, for bringing on some sweet nostalgia.

The original is one of those songs that I can only listen too at certain times, in certain moods. Your words about nostalgia are spot on, which is what makes it so special. This version is beautiful, and touching and something I can listen to at any time.
Excellent work to you all!

I used to sing/play this on the guitar when I was 7 years old!! My goodness the nostalgia~ it floods over me listening to this. What a crisp and beautiful voice.
I love this song. You've made me want to sing it now :)! I used to watch the movie when I was that young, very graphic and adult but I liked it and it was a moving story.
Really beautiful cover, I love the strings. I think some parts of her vocals are lost a little when all the instrumental parts are at their loudest, at least on my speakers. Maybe the vocal track could do with a slight volume increase as she has a delicate singing style, but that might just be me who thinks this.
Very beautiful and chilling rendition of such a well known piece of music. Thanks for the memories! XD

I bought the DVD ages ago, but still haven't got round to watching it (possibly because I tried reading the book when I was younger, and found it incredibly boring).
I thought until now I'd never heard the song, but it occurs to me that the tune is vaguely familiar...I think I heard it only as an instrumental way back in my distant past.
It's a beautiful rendition, and the vocalist is very fitting.
P.S. On a side note, weren't you going to post the percussion-only version of that Sholan tribal dance piece?

Very nice work, as always. And, quite coincidentally, my next suit is based on a Watership Down character, Inlé-rah.

Coming from a fellow musician (Playing wooden flutes of all shapes, kinds and sizes), I was totally amazed at your work!
I will NEVER be able to understand strings, my fingers just don't do that! X3
All of your workings together were truly beautiful, I hope to see more in the future!

I get a little sad every time I hear this song... I'mma go watch Watership Down now. Haven't read the book, but I have watched the movie... T'was sad. And pretty, all at the same time.
Freakin love this tune. That voice is absolutely gorgeous, and your use of instruments never ceases to amaze. :3

I grew up listening to a lot of the Simon and Garfunkle work. I respect their work as I respect many artists work.
But I gotta say, you three OUT DID the original performance by S&G. You really did!
Fox, I gotta say, you speak the language of music as a first language, and its obvious in your compositional skill. You know what sounds good where and why. And then have the ability to put what works where it belongs, rendering it with great skill. You know how to select other great musicians and vocalists around you to do what you can not. It should be a great honor (if it isn't already) to those artists to be selected by you to do work together.
And the three of you, in particular, work very well together. It takes great professionalism to balance the way you do, in equal portions. No one performer gets a big spotlight, and the three of you share it very well, bringing your own voice to the work, and together, making a great piece!
This rendition of this song has been in my head a lot lately, and though it paints a beautiful scene, it is also a sad scene. I need to get it out of my head, so, I have now cued up a bunch of other FoxAmoore's work =^.^= As always BRAVO FOX and company! You out did the original, and for that, I am very grateful you chose to share it here!

Oh, that is a gorgeous version. I have no idea how many covers of this song I've heard over the years, but it must be well into the hundreds by now -- and this is most certainly right up with the best of them. A very nice arrangement, different enough from the original to be interesting but not wildly changed for the sake of it; and a beautiful voice. Bravo to everyone involved. =:)
Watership Down is one of my favourite books and the movie definitely did it justice.
It's not such a sad story as people make out, if you really read/watch it. Everybody is happy in the end after all.
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it in the movie and this has to be one of my favourite versions of it, and yes, I have heard quite a few.
Thank you to
foxamoore ,
merinawish , and
foxcall for performing this beautiful version. Hearing it made my night. Now I'm listening to it on repeat and even singing along.
