That's what they want us to believe...

This was really lovely to read! There's always another macro story out there about the one growing huge. But there's never a story of the one(s) left behind. A really nice take on the idea!

I mean, not just that...

... but the one left behind, and given no idea what happened. All they know is what they're told, with enough vagarity to make it frightening.

Wonderful sense of progression, gradually revealing what happened from the past up to the present, building into the biggest cliffhanger at the end - c'mon, you can't just do that. Did things work out!?

(…obviously you can leave it up to the reader's imagination, well played. I'm stubbornly hopeful, but my own narrative leanings with Blappeture Mesa/etc would have me assume further hurdles before actual happiness.)

Roland, the rebellious now-giant cooperating presumably just to see Jacob nicely emphasizes the strength of this relationship, combining with the earlier described memories to show, not tell.

I appreciate the emotional focus and uncertainty you've conveyed, especially given where I am in life. I'll nose at ya when I've got the energy.

Okay, you need to be sure you want to know how this continues. There's no guarantees this has a happy ending.

When you put it that way, I can only imagine the worse possible outcomes…

That said, I think I would want to know, or read the next chapter if/when it exists, acknowledging things may get worse - not all stories have a happy ending, as you note, and those are valid as well.

It might just take some time before I get to it (worn out from unrelated life stuff).
