This is my (only) piece shown to the EF16 artshow 2 weeks ago.
This is a "print" of a 3d model, made with a 3d printer :) (
remcohn's one ). This is the first try with a full character, and I think that the result is great!

The 3D printers I know draw the model into the air, using a laser and thermoplastics, they basically draw a sculpture of quickly cooling plastic based on a 3D model information.
So they don´t carve anything out a solid block, quite the opposite, there´s nothing there before, you turn on the machine, and boom, sculpture.

The limitations being that they are incapable of printing models in multiple colors like the model seen on this page.
Also keep in mind the limited resolution that 3D printers have.

Ouais, c'est ce que je comptais faire (proposer avec ou sans la socle). Si c'est le même prix avec ou sans, tous les gens vont prendre avec (naturellement!) :p
Mais bon, y'aura pas trop de boulot à faire non plus, pour l'instant je vais ouvrir un nombre très limité de slots ( 3 )

About the printer: yes it does color hehe, and its (unfortunaly) more then 15k. its basicly a inkjet printer that prints glue on powder.
and i am open for printjobs for artists. ofcourse not every model is printable, but feel free to contact me.
And the material is indeed the same as the 'color sandstone' from shapeways.
