Which is not exactly copyrights, either -- you can only copyright the exact actual work, not a concept, for which there are other IP rights -- e.g., said van Vogt has successfully settled with Fox paying him a rather noticeable sum for them essentially making the Alien(s) movie(s) resembling his short story involving said Coeurls.
I think that's why they were changed from coeurls to displacer beasts in D&D, much like they had to change hobbits to halflings/whatever else, but OTOH, the FFx series has literal coeurls an no one seems to bother to do anything about it.
... It's all Interstate 60 whatever way you slice it though...
But to be fair i started playing in 1992, red box, yes but already changed, so i never saw the name "Coeurl" in TSR's books.
And... yeah... it's all very FUBAR and "interstate 60" is a good metaphor for it.

Mere cover for her actions, pretending her behavior algorithms are simply malfunctioning by parroting the standard message for it. Or perhaps brutal mockery of the person she's hitting.
How'd she react if she ran into a child who opted to hug her instead of hitting her?
Basically it will start out with her getting abused because of course... kids want to bash monsters... then one tries to befriend her.
But sounds like this could be a nice read then.
