I drew this up back in late 2014 and it's probably one of the most popular drawings on my DeviantArt account; I still occasionally receive notifications to this day about someone adding it to their favorites. May as well share it here, since it is furry art of a classic furbait character... or at least she used to be. It's apparently all about Loona and Roxxy nowadays, or so I've been told.
Yeah, it was done a long time ago, but I still think it looks pretty good! Maybe you guys will think so, too? When I set out to do this drawing, she was going to be wearing her outfit from Assault, but I had a hard time getting the suit design right and instead decided to just draw up a suit design of my own that was vaguely inspired by it, with additional glowy bits for extra effect (inspired by some fan art I stumbled across so long ago). I also had a hard time drawing up the staff due to not being able to find much in terms of reference material for it, so I also found myself having to take minor liberties with the design. Wasn't sure how I felt about the "flames" coming out of the ends, but it grew on me over time.
I remember having a lot of fun drawing this one, and it was a neat getting to work with so many different shades of blue here, though I don't know if the eyes and glowy bits actually qualify as blue or not (it's called "seafoam green," but it really straddles a fine line between the two colors). I also still think that detail I did with her name below, making the tail resemble Krystal's, was a nice touch.
...Man, Nintendo really hasn't done anything with her in a long time, have they? Outside of some cameos in Smash Bros., her last noteworthy role in a video game was 2006's Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS, but most fans don't like to talk about that game. She'll come back some day, I hope... and perhaps by then Nintendo will actually figure out what to do with her, because they never really knew how to put her to good use even back then.

I think StarFox Assault more or less nailed a good role for her, at least as far as StarFox handles characters outside Fox, Peppy and Andross goes. I'd prefer they stick close to that rather than make changes to her character. People only assumed she was a lesser developed character because she had less nostalgia under her belt than say, Falco or Wolf.
Modern Nintendo is not so great with StarFox, StarFox Zero was a disaster, and it somehow managed to flanderize an already barebones plot. decades-out-of-date gameplay styles aside, when it comes to the character writing I seriously think they should hire outside artists and learn to move past the Lylat Wars.

I definitely agree with you about her portrayal in Assault; it was a step in the right direction for her and I really liked the whole "team telepath" bit Namco gave her. Would've been nice to see that get expanded upon more.
It really feels like Nintendo never really knew what to do with her, and after how Zero did with players, I don't think they even know what to do with the series as a whole anymore. But if Samus can survive Other M and rebound from that mess of a game, Star Fox can survive Zero and I have faith that the series will return some day.

Nintendo had very little input in Assault which I thought was a good thing, quite frankly. I think Krystal is a better character than you were giving her credit for, I mean, she has multiple displayed traits for having so little screentime across the two GameCube games, but they were strong enough. Her dialogue during Sauria's mission and her speech at the end say a lot considering her backstory. That seems like a lot for any StarFox character considering the majority of them are very one note if even that.
Regarding what you said about Metroid Other M, quite similar to SF Command... Writing as a whole is far from Nintendo's strong suit and that is largely from Miyamoto's influence. He is surrounded by yes-men and grovelled at within the industry as a whole. His contributions to the gaming industry can't be understated, but I think he is seriously decades behind the times to put it politely. StarFox has a lot of potential as an epic space opera, but I really think it would do so much better in almost anyone's hands but Nintendo's. It says a lot when Ubisoft made a more well received game than Miyamoto with help from Platinum Games could. That said, I'd love to see Platinum take the reigns on StarFox if they could have a lot more creative freedom with it, and not be constrained to whatever gimmick in-house Nintendo devs are flinging with at the time.
